Rating: Summary: A bit predictable, but scared the pants off me anyway! Review: I slept with the light on a few nights while I was reading this book. I had never read anything by Tami Hoag before, but I definitely will again! While the plotline was a bit predictable (anyone with a good sleuthing mind will figure it out), the description and the style in which she writes is scary as hell!
Rating: Summary: REALLY SADISTIC AND GRUESOME Review: I found myself cringing during the explicitely violent scenes. I didn't enjoy that aspect of it, I liked the suspense but felt the romance got in the way, but i guess i was just impatient. The romance did seem a pointless sideshow, it didn't really enhance the story, is there a romance in every Tami Hoag? i thought these were murder mysteries. the romance in Thin Dark Line was better though. This one is more suspenseful and more gory than TDL. Well-written.
Rating: Summary: Taut Mystery Review: Tami Hoag's history to me, has been to write about women being used, abused, exploited, tortured, murdered - how their families and others cope with that, but also there is always some kind of redemption. I felt this book was well written, with good characters and action. Serial killers do seem to be the "thing" of the moment, but if they are as smart as the experts say they are it's a wonder they catch them at all. Some of these people are in the system and able to manipulate events and the people around them - it's sad but realistic. I liked the two protagonists and the fact that they seemed to be able to eventually put aside some of their excess baggage, solve the crime and heal each other. Some of it was very scary reading - but the ending just gave me the chills.
Rating: Summary: Sensational! Review: This is my first Tami Hoag and I thought it was brilliant, extremely well-written and I never guessed who the Cremator was. I am a huge fan of Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs, but I felt that 'Ashes To Ashes' was much more realistic (esp when I come from a small time which exactly this story has happened) The only complaint was that not enough was said about the killer and there was too much on the police involved. I will definately be reading more of Ms Hoag's books and for those who complain about the graphic violence, don't read books on serial killers!
Rating: Summary: Great! Review: Incredible book! A must read
Rating: Summary: Not bad Review: This isn't bad as a serial killer book goes. I found it hard going, but I kept on until the end and did enjoy the fact that I didn't figure out the killer before the ending. I did wonder what happened to Thor. I hope he is alright. My friend recommended this book to me knowing that I read a lot. I don't know if I will read any more of them or not. I'll keep them in mind if I run out of other things to read.
Rating: Summary: This book is execrable. Review: "Ashes to Ashes" has the worst cliches of the "serial killer of women" genre. It features the sadistic torture and mutilation of women by a sicko who had an unhappy childhood. Hoag throws in the old saw about former lovers who try to reignite what they once had and unfortunately lost. There are also a number of red herrings that are completely unconvincing. The "solution" to the mystery is so ridiculous and convoluted as to be almost laughable. This is the first book that I have read by Hoag. The success of this book is a sad commentary on the public's taste in crime fiction. Of all the faults of this book, the sadism against women is the worst. There is no need to depict such graphic violence. If you read British authors of crime fiction such as P. D. James, Elizabeth George and Ruth Rendell at their best, then you will see that the dark side of human nature can be portrayed in a more meaningful and less sadistic manner. There is no need to pander to the lowest common denominator of the reading pubic.
Rating: Summary: It is worth reading. Review: This book does make me wanna puke sometimes because of its violent description. But nevertheless, this book still has its charm in suspence. It has an even more unexpected ending than the rest of Tami's other novels. But to me the beginning of the story is quite draggy though.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable Review: I felt this was one of Ms. Hoags better novels. Quite well written and suspensful. Never caught on til the end who the "creamator" was! And it was fun reading about near by places as I live just outside Mpls. One complaint/ question is what about Thor? Was he forgotten about? Also how many times does the word "proactive" come up?! Too many.
Rating: Summary: Best Hoag to date! Review: I loved it and can't wait for Tami Hoag's next book! Incredible, a must read!
