Summary: Chills on the excercise bike
Review: How is it that a book for which I've seen the movie at least a dozen times can still frighten you?

Stephen King, that's how!

I read this at the gym, and holy cow, I swear to you I'd get the chills. Don't feel that you've seen the movie, now I don't need to read the book. Read the book!!! It's a completely different story. And it is awesome!!!

Summary: A Really Scary & Well Written Book
Review: I highly recommend this book! I've never read any Stephen King novels before, but I am very impressed with this one. It was written in the 70's, but I only just finished reading it three days ago--and I'm reading it again. There are a few books that I can just read over and over again, and this is definetly one of them. It's very scary, even more than the movie is, and also much more detailed than the movie--plus it makes more sense. The characters are so believably written that you start to feel like you really know them. The Hotel is the greatest evil in this book, and everything about it is bad. I don't want to give anything away but I think this book is brilliant because it draws you into the plot--quite a complex plot, but not overly difficult to read. Very vivid. I think Mr. King is a brilliant author if he can write this well.
Read it now--this book will really scare you, and even though it's weird, a few tiny parts will actually catch you by surprise and really make you laugh out loud, if that's possible in a horror book. At the beginning, there's so much optimistic hope for the Torrance family that I found myself hoping that they wouldn't be swallowed up by the evils of the Overlook Hotel. Of course, it's obviously almost inevitable, which makes them all seem doomed. The Overlook is realisticly described, with its terror right in there. This is probably one of my favorite books...

Summary: The scariest King book I have read!
Review: I am 14 years old and haave been reading King for about four years. I have read King's 20 most popular books and this remains his scariest. I think that this is beause the first half gets you familiar with the Torrance's and you start to relate to them. You start sympathizing with Jack, Wendy, and Danny, and then the whole family falls apart. This is one of my favorite King books and is certainly the scariest.

Summary: This book will grab you at first sight
Review: This is a book about a family and with all that can go wrong in their world. A story about the horror of a hotel and the damage that can be consumed. You may only know this dieing secret in THE SHINING.

Summary: Possessed buildings and mental breakdowns.
Review: Stephen King's THE SHINING is a classic piece of modern day literature. The story is enthralling and unlike other early King stories, has several layers. Is the book solely about a hotel possessed by evil spirits? Or are all the horrifying images merely physical manifestations of what happens to Jack Torrance as he suffers through a total mental and psychotic breakdown? The answer is both. The book is thrilling and suspenseful and full of unforgettable images. Of course, it's not for everyone, but if you have never read a King novel, this is one of his "horror" pieces that I would recommend.

Summary: BLACK DEATH
Review: The Shinning is a horror book written by Stephen King. It is about an evil hotel that lures innkeepers into killing their wives and kids to become a part of the luxurious hotel for the rest of their ghostly lives. Practically everything in the hotel is possessed and is out to kill the innkeeper's son. This horror book tells about the battle between man and himself and man vs. ghost. Throughout this book you are on the edge of your seat wondering and guessing what is going to happen next in the book.

Summary: One of the best books I've ever read
Review: The Shining was my first Stephen King book and I was VERY impressed. It was absolutely terrifying and I could hardly read it at night because it was so realistic! I absolutely love his writing style... I know that from now on I will be hooked. This book had everything I love, ghosts, psychic abilities, suspense and an incredible plot. I had seen the movie a while back and I was scared but the movie is NOTHING like the book. There were so many more details and interesting aspects in the book. I would definitely recommend The Shining.

Summary: Chilling and Hair-raising!!!
Review: This is the first book I have read by Stephen King. The plot and the characters were out of this world. The book is real, not some of those fake plots you have in some novels. Jack, Wendy, and their five-year old son Danny, go up to the Colorado mountains and stay at an old hotel with a lot of unspoken history behind it. Jack is the caretaker, which means only they are going to be the ones in the hotel for the entire snowed-in winter. The hotel is the Overlook. All Jack knows is that a man named Grady went insane and killed his family and then himself. Jack soon finds out some more interesting things about the hotel as they stay longer. Danny is gifted with the Shining, he goes into death-like trances when in thought or in dreams. Danny knows something about the hotel, and, at first his parents don't believe him, but soon, Wendy understands. Danny and Wendy know that they have to leave the hotel, but they don't know how to get Jack out since it is his job as caretaker. The novel will chill you right down the the center of your bones, don't miss it!!!

Summary: The Shining
Review: The shining splices two thrilling aspects of entertainment, Horror, and intense thrill. The story its self, connects drama, with intense aggrivation, and pure hatred, and possession.
The story takes place in a remote mountain wilderness in Colorado. In the overlook hotel, which has a well renound reputation for hauntings. and mass murder, suicides. The first part of the story takes place in a much larger rural suburban area, in the outskirts of boulder Colorado.
The family in the story, travel to the overlook, to take the job as "winter care-takers". Jack, the main charachter has quite a past behind him. and a past drinking habit re-lights, while hes at the overlook. Wendy Jack's wife is a self concious caring wife. She's on the verdge of splitting up with jack. Their son danny plays a huge role in the whole plot of the story. He has psychic abilities, which will save them in the end.
