Rating: Summary: If You Love Romantic Suspense--Read This Book Immediately! Review: There are some stories you just don't want to end. The Search by Iris Johansen is one of those stories. This book not only brings back all the characters from Ms. Johansen's last two novels but provides a story that went way beyond my expectations of this book.John Logan, that wonderful millionaire who helped Eve Duncan search for the reamins of her murdered daughter is suddenly slapped in the face with horrendous evil from his past. When one of his research facilities is blown up and a brilliant scientist is kidnapped, Logan calls in Sarah Patrick and her golden retriever, Monty. Logan knows his only chance of rescuing the scientist alive is through the special talents of Sarah and Monty. He promises Sarah that this is a one-time job and then he will never bother her or Monty again. However, what is suppose to be a one-time deal explodes as Logan frantically tries to confront his past and save those in the present. The chemistry between Logan and Sarah sizzles. The evil is enough to give even hard core suspense readers chills up their spines. There are no words to adequately describe this novel and sensations it makes you feel. This book is fantastic. I especially love the way Ms. Johansen not only shows the communication between Sarah and Monty, but also gives Monty his own story line that keeps the reader intrigued. I would love for Ms. Johansen's next novel to feature one of the secondary characters in the story named Galen. He definitely sounds like a lead character that deserves his own story. Put out your hard-earned money for this novel. It is well worth the investment.
Rating: Summary: Excellent thriller Review: Monty is a search and rescue dog who, along with his human companion Sarah Patrick, is dedicated to saving people from disasters. They seek survivors, but mark the locale of the dead. Manipulative billionaire John Logan knows the dramatic success of this team, having used them once before. He needs them again, but knows Sarah would never voluntarily help him. He manipulates the situation so that Sarah has no choice but to assist John. A scientific research team working for John in the Colombian jungle was attacked, leaving everyone dead except an irreplaceable scientist who was kidnapped. John needs Sarah and Monty to locate the man so that his team can rescue the victim. The mission turns into a partial success as they rescue the scientist, but fail to kill the culprit. John knows that the perpetrator is his most deadly enemy, who will continue to attack him unless John kills him. John also knows that Sarah and Monty have been marked by his foe. He places them under his protection over Sarah's objection. The danger brings them closer together but they must live long enough to enjoy the feelings that are developing between them. Fans of Iris Johansen will be excited by the lead appearance of the magnetic secondary character from THE FACE OF DECEPTION and THE KILLING GAME. The charming, manipulative anti-hero meets his match in the strong-willed, exasperating, but intrepid heroine. The complex charcaters enhance a rich, fast-paced story line that turns into a thrill a page. Readers do not have to search any further than this novel to find Ms. Johansen's next trip to the bestseller lists. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: Excellent--one of Johansen's best! Review: The Search was the first book I read by Johansen and it wasn't the last! Since reading this novel, I have gone on to read her earlier ones, but The Search is still my favorite. It never lets up and keeps you glued, especially when you get to the last hundred pages!
Rating: Summary: The Search Review: KLR October 9, 2001 The Search This novel, The Search written by Iris Johansen, is a great book that you find yourself not wanting to put down. It is a very action filled, intense novel with a little romance thrown in. Eve Duncan is a forensic sculptor whose daughter was brutally murdered. John Logan helped Eve to find her daughter's body and bring her home. When Logan suddenly faces a horrible problem from his past he calls on a friend of Eve's, Sarah Patrick. Sarah and her dog Monty are part of a search and rescue team and Logan knows he must have her cooperation to deal with this horrible fate. Logan promises to help Sarah get away from her boss as long as she will help him do this one job. But the one job Logan had planned turned out to be a whole lot different. As Sarah and Logan stay together longer to help innocent people, they start to develop a chemistry between them, something that will last a while. Iris Johansen did a great job in keeping the book suspenseful. She makes all the characters have their own story line and she shows them interacting well together.
Rating: Summary: Oh Galen, cook -me- something! *cough* Review: The fact this book had a golden retriever, (Monty) in it who seemed to have a very special relationship with Sarah made me interested in reading it. I have to say though, I didn't like Logan much. He seemed way too powerful. It's just a lot of little things about the book bothered me. How he could call and just have things changed to fit him. But I loved Monty, and Galen. Rudzak seemed to go down pretty easily at the end for the ultimate bad guy, which disappointed me. He wasn't smart enough to think Logan was planning something as well? Bah humbug. The ending of stories should be great- leave you in awe. This gets 3 stars from me. D:
Rating: Summary: flat dialog, and unpleasant "hero" Review: I quit this book 50 pages in-here's why:
I'm a regular reader of romantic suspense-this book doesn't even get into the story until 40 pages in (and it's only 311 pages). It just doesn't grab you. The story-the heroine being forced into a search mission by the hero-an unscrupulous businessman-uninteresting, and not inducable to wanting to continue the story.
The hero is your typical hero for some romances-tough, self made millionaire-but this guy is a user, and will use any means necessary to get what he wants-not a high recomendation for a romantic hero.
the heroine is bland and one dimensionable-and that's saying something for a modern heroine that is a search dog rescuer for the ATF! Her "psychic" connection is a bit far fetched the way it's written.
The biggest miss was the dialog-flat and dull. The interplay is very repetitive and simplistic.
1 star and hopefully another Johanson will be better.
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointing! Review: I expected much more from this book. For one thing it covered a subject that I love and have an affinity for - search and rescue dogs. But instead I found the book stiff and not believable. There seemed too many loose ends, and some things in the book didn't make any sense. I also found the writing simplistic and the suspense was not developed - it never seemed to keep my interest anyway. Maybe it's the genre - I'm not a fan of romantic suspense, and that should have kept me away from this book. But read it I did, and I did not like it.
Rating: Summary: A big snooze Review: I do a lot of flying so my "test" is to see if the book I pick up holds my interest throughout the entire flight. A five star book makes a five hour flight rip by like no time at all.
This was my first experience reading Iris Johansen's work and I found the SEARCH dreadfully dull. Frankly, I'm a little surprised by all the great reviews posted here. The dialog and scenes between Logan and Sarah are repetitive and flat. I found myself plodding through pages and not remembering a word I'd read. And I was never in suspense. Yes there's action in the book, but it's the kind that you skim through because it's rather mundane and doesn't do much to advance the plot or character development. I didn't care enough about the characters to feel invested in them. In fact, the most interesting relationship in the book is between Monty, Sarah's dog, and the wolf, - which isn't saying much - and even that lacked forward movement and action. The wolf gets caught in trap, Sarah helps it, and then the wolf basically lies around for the rest of the novel "recovering" and "growling" at people while Monty lies next to her giving her moon eyes. Whatever. Needless to say, having nothing else to do on a 5 hour plane ride, I forced myself to keep reading, although had I anything else to read I would have dropped it like a hot potato. And in the end, I still couldn't make it through it. I opted to stare off into space instead. That's why I give it a great big ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.
Rating: Summary: a little intriguing!!! Rating: Summary: Riveting as Always.... Review: Iris Johansen brings billionaire John Logan back in this great romantic thriller. It centers around Sarah Patrick and Monty who are part of a K-9 search and rescue team. The book was great and I especially enjoyed a small introduction on various aspects of search and rescue teams. The bond that was captured in this novel of Sarah and her love for her dog, Monty was wonderful. The plots and subplots were intense and I never find Iris Johansen's books to be "light or cozy" reading. They are so riveting and compelling that my heart is in my throat until the last page. Another really great book!
