Rating: Summary: Sarah and Monty Are A Great Team Review: The Search is a sort of spin off from Iris Johansen's Face of Deception and The Killing Game, as we first meet the characters in her two previous books. The Search picks back up with John Logan, who's research lab has been destroyed and his top man being held for ransom. Logan has to heavily persuaded, to the point of blackmail, search and rescuer Sarah Patrick and her dog Monty to help him find his employee and the kidnapper. As Sarah finds out, a little too late, the kidnapper is after more than money, he is a person from Logan's past that is back for revenge, leaving everyone, herself and Monty in danger. The Search turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse, waiting to see when the killer will pounce, and what he will do next. Iris Johansen once again pulls off a good suspense novel with a little romance mixed in.
Rating: Summary: A CAN'T PUT DOWN THRILLER Review: This was a captivating novel from beginnig to end and I couldn't put the book down until I finished it.Sarah Patrick and her Golden Retriever Monty have a special relationship, they understand each other. They work together as a search and rescue team to find bodies (alive or dead). Logan is a businessman with a problem. One of his research facilities has just been destroyed and an employee kidnapped. Logan calls on Sarah and Monty to go to South America with him to find the employee. This is only the beginning and the stakes get higher. A ruthless murderer is determined to make Logan and anyone involved with him pay, and pay dearly. Sarah and Monty have to use their wits and courage to stay alive in this deadly game of cat and mouse.
Rating: Summary: Somewhat Disappointing. Review: I was hoping for more. Iris Johansen had begun to make a name for herself in a new genre. But in this book she reverts back to her roots of romance novels. I would have preferred to stayed with the forensic anthropologist. I felt it was deceptive in it's description. It is more a romance novel than a thriller. If you are looking for a good forensic thriller, I would skip this one and read her other book "Face of Deception".
Rating: Summary: Can't wait till the next book! Review: This is one great book and held my complete attention for days.I continually read the book, every minute I could, not wanting to go to bed, work or sleep. All three of the books,The Face Of Deception,The Killing Game, and The Search have been totally captivating that I cannot wait for the next book to be sold.A have to read for everyone that enjoys true reading from a great author. This was the best one yet.
Rating: Summary: High on Romance, Low on Mystery Review: Maybe I should have started with the Killing Game, but I didn't. When I saw the marketing line, "If you like Patricia Cornwell, then you will love Iris Johansen..." I thought...great! After reading this book though, I have to say that it is more like a "fair" Catherine Coulter book than a Patricia Cornwell. It is a fast read (I am one of those people who never not finish a book), but a little too much on the schmaltzy romance (does anyone fall in love this fast?) and not much on the suspense. I probably will try the Killing Game, just because I want to give her a second try.
Rating: Summary: The Search Review: I enjoyed Iris Johansen's book The Search, very much. The story is gripping though sometimes a little far-fetched, but her characters Sara and her dog Monty are excellent. A problem I found in the book, though, was in the beginning there was an earthquake in Turkey and Ms Johansen had a young Turkish girl clasping a cross necklace she was wearing around her neck. Turkey is an Islamic nation, and the percentage of Christians who live there is very small, and they live almost exclusively in the two major cities. She may have left many people with a very false impression. A little research would have saved her from this mistake and the sort of unsettled feeling it gave me for the rest of the book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I have long been a fan of Iris Johansen and have enjoyed many of her stories - some more than others. The books with Eve as the main character were so dark they were a little disturbing. Perhaps because at it's heart was a dead child, a difficult subject for me. I loved this book and the relationship that develops between Logan and Sarah. Her love of Monty, and Monty's for her was what pulled me through the book. It was wonderful - one I'll reread as often as I can.
Rating: Summary: Sarah & Monty Are Back ... Review: If you're a fan of Johansen's mysteries "The Search" will not disappoint. Returning from her best-selling novel "The Killing Game," elevated from secondary to star status, are search & rescue team Sarah Patrick and her extraordinary golden retriever, Monty. Also repeating is Eve Duncan's millionaire companion, John Logan. In this round we find a desperate Logan making Sarah an offer she can not refuse. Refusing means losing Monty, something she is not willing to do, ever. Sparks fly, not only between good and evil but between our two main characters. Fans will immediately wonder if this is a good thing. What has the usually calm debonair Logan so distraught? And why does he feel Sarah and Monty are the only ones in the world who can help him? Fair warning, get your drinks and snacks out now because when you pick up "The Search" you won't want to put it down. Barbara (c)2000
Rating: Summary: Okay but no cigar... Review: I wish someone had told me that this story involved conversations with a dog. If I'd known, I would have left this book on the shelf. Now don't get me wrong. I love animals, and I especially love dogs. But I don't want to read a book that has someone reading their dogs thoughts and actually having a running dialog with the dog as if they were having a long conversation. That's a bit much to swallow unless the book is fantasy or horror or something, but not a mystery/thriller. Now aside from the talking dog routine, the story itself was decent. The characters were likeable, the plot was interesting, and the scenery was okay. There was some suspense, but not enough to have you flipping the pages at warp speed. The obligatory romance was even plausible. In short, the story wasn't bad. The question is "would I recommend it?" Sorry for all you Johansen fans, the answer is no. Not unless you can overlook the talking dog. I found that too distracting to really enjoy what could have been a really good story.
Rating: Summary: Ms. Johansen does it again Review: The Search reintroduces characters from Ms Johansen's previous novels, (The Face of Deception and The Killing Game). I recommend reading the previous novels to get a better understanding of the characters in The Search. The story is about Sarah and her search and rescue dog Monty. Monty has a nose to find any person alive or dead. John Logan from the previous two books, has gotten Sarah and Monty's help to find one of his employees that was kidnapped. After the completion of the search. Sarah is targeted by a madman who wants to get revenge on John. Now it's a cat and mouse game for all of the characters. Excellent suspense and good romance keep you turning the pages for the shocking conclusion.
