Rating: Summary: N is for Noosr Review: I have read all the Grafton novel through N and I think ahe broke the rule of one too many. The story was very slow ans Kinsey didn,t seem too bright. It was not her kind of case and I don,t know why she took it. I will give O a try to see if Grafton can regain my favor.
Rating: Summary: Slow Reading Review: This book seemed slow, but unlike other slow books I kept on plugging through it. The part about her book that bothered me most was the fact that there was no way the reader could have figured the mystery out. There were really no hints. I think a good mystery should be fair to the reader. It should provide enough information and hints that the reader has a fair chance of solving the mystery.
Rating: Summary: N is for Noose Review: I gave this book three stars because the plot was SLOW... nothing happens during the first half of the book. However, the plot (once it gets going) is very good. It's pretty easy to guess what the answer to the mystery, but the suspence make that second half worthwhile
Rating: Summary: An enjoyable and suspensful book! Review: This is my first Kinsey book and I intend to read others. Kinsey Milhone is a great character. She's flawed and caustic. Add that to a great and suspensful book and you have the mixture for an enjoyable read. With so many suspects I couldn't figure out who the killer was which is a plus if u are reading a mystery. The only reason I gave it four stars was because some parts of the book were alittle slow moving.
Rating: Summary: Great fare but not the best Review: I'd really give this 4 1/2 stars because it was still suspenseful despite some moments of slowness. I didn't really enjoy the catalyst for Kinsey's case, Selma - Grafton probably intended that since many of the townfolk felt the same. I prefer Kinsey when she works from Santa Teresa, but the townfolk of Nota Lake were at least interesting. And I had to chuckle when Kinsey fired up that iron - it may not have worked, but there's ingenuity at its best! Enjoyable, especially if you're going through the series like I am.
Rating: Summary: The Whole Town Is Against Me Review: One of my favorite detective story lines is the one where the whole community turns against the protagonist. Despite this, the detective solves the crime. N Is for Noose follows that plot, and is well done. In fact, the book borders on the genre of the Western in many ways. Read it that way, and you'll like it better. The book has one uncharacteristic quality for this series, Kinsey is quite slow to solve the mystery. I found that intriguing. Most problem-solving is slow and ineffective. To me, it made the story more realistic and interesting to follow. Others will call it slow plot development. The resolution in the end is extremely unusual. It combines elements that are found in many other stories, but never in combination. It literally took my breath away. I could not read it fast enough, even though it is over quickly. Such a powerful coda after so many lento sections is an astonishing surprise, and one that worked well for me. Although this is certainly not the best book in the series, it is a very fine one. I urge you to read it, and appreciate its strengths.
Rating: Summary: Is Kinsey ready for retirement? Review: Just because there are 26 letters in the alphabet, doesn't mean this series has to run till the bitter end! Especially since at the halfway mark Kinsey seems to be running out of steam. The pace is lackadaisical at best, and the plot is far from original. Neither Grafton nor Kinsey show much interest, so how do they expect the readers to? And if there are future episodes (I know "O" is already in the bookstores), then PLEASE give Kinsey a computer, cellphone, etc. Bring this woman into the 21st century! It's ridiculous to still have her searching for phone booths.
Rating: Summary: Where did the ending come from? Review: Did I miss something? I agree with most everyone in saying that this story was slow to start, but there were many points that were quite suspenseful. Then I reached the ending. I must have missed something. It made no sense. I had to go back to the first several chapters to find out what the link was. Out of all of Sue Grafton's books, this was my least favorite.
Rating: Summary: Sloppy Review: I actually really liked A - G... but the series went seriously downhill from there. This one was too much... I simply couldn't finish it. I got past all of my usual annoyances (again, she described the size 8 woman as being overweight... am I the only person that bothers?). The book was going nowhere slowly, but I still hoped for something. And then - Kinsey made a sandwich with Hellmann's mayonnaise and called it her favorite kind - minor, nitpicky detail, but *someone*, an editor, the writer, someone should have known that you can't buy Hellmann's in Nevada - or California for that matter. I instantly lost interest, and put it down, never to pick it back up. Details matter in detective stories. If they're going to overlook some details, what else will they overlook - the plot? the characterization? the mystery? just because its SUE GRAFTON? I expect more. With any luck, she'll take more time on the next book to write something worth the 3 hours of reading time.
Rating: Summary: I don't agree... Review: I thought N was one of the best Sue Grafton books. It's nice that Kinsey got out of Santa Teresa for a while and into a truly quaint little town that, like any city, had its dark side. I thought the plot was great, the writing fast and snappy, and the ending good. For once I figured out who done it! Besides E and I this is my favorite. Avoid H though. That wasn't good at all...
