Rating: Summary: If You Fear A Rotten Book, Read This One It's A Fright Review: Sophomoric writing combines with a lousy plot and formulaic characters to take the reader on a shopping trip in New York City and Connecticutt. Woods' books just keep getting worse. Too bad, as Chiefs was an excellent novel.
Rating: Summary: A quick read Review: Worst Fears Realized was a great book and more than lived up to the past Stone Barrington novels.
Rating: Summary: Fact or Fantasy Review: I really enjoyed Woods latest book. However, sometimes it seems his setting is a little "other worldly" to a reader from the rural mid-West. Can you really enter a New York car dealership and purchase an armoured car? Nevertheless, I found this a good quick read and will continue to seek out Stuart Woods books when browsing the library or book store
Rating: Summary: Worst Fears Calmed Review: I bought this book as part of a buy one; get one and this was the "get one." I read this one first thinking it would not be as good as the one I originally ordered. Boy! was I wrong. I really liked this book! And so much that I went out and bought Dirt (which I finished in two days) and Dead in the Water (which I am starting today). Worst Fears and Dirt were both fast reads, but not "fluff". I just could not put either of them down. I will try other non-Stone Barrington books next.
Rating: Summary: stuart is slipping Review: I was disappointed by the storyline and lack of attention to detail in this book. The characters in this book, including Stone, were a bit over the top and detracts from the story. In addition to the confusion over the sex of Arrington's child, Bill Eggers, Stone's law partner is referred to as Bob on at least two occasions. "New York Dead" and "Palindrome" are his best works in my opinion.
Rating: Summary: Excellent - - Just Drop the "Culture" Review: As usual, Stuart Woods has crafted an excellent yarn revolving around his "alter ego," Stone Barrington. The read moves crisply and takes several interesting turns along the way to a satisfying conclusion. Woods is a gifted writer with many first-class novels to his credit. The one gripe I have with Woods' Stone Barrington books is his frequent dwelling on ritzy wines, foods, cars, clothing, etc. It's as if he is trying to impress his reader with his class and culture. Stuart: A little of this goes a long way. I hope Mr. Woods' next endeavor is away from Stone Barrington - - something a little more challenging, like his five-star "Chiefs."
Rating: Summary: Did Vance have a boy or girl?Stone got the genders mixed up. Review: I looked at "Swimming to Catalina" and saw that it was a girl. He screwed up. In "Worst Fears Realized", Stone tells someone at the first of the book that Arrington is married to Vance Calder and is raising their son. Then later in the book, Stone goes to dinner at Vance and Arrington's house and meets their son. I don't understand because it really didn't make a difference to the storyline as to whether it was a girl or a boy. I hate things like that, though.
Rating: Summary: Not the best Stuart Woods but entertaining Review: For those of us who have become Stone Barrington fans you won't be disappointed. Stone is up to his usual tricks. He gets any girl he wants, spends lots of money, keeps you in suspense for a while but of course, solves the crime. The ending was very weak and I did wonder how Arrington's baby went from being a girl in the end of "Swimming to Catalina" to a boy in the beginning of this one. It is by far not the best Stuart Woods book I've read but I found it to be an enjoyable quick read.
Rating: Summary: Bad, bad, bad and more bad. Review: After having just read three of Michael Connelly's novels (The Poet, The Black Ice and the Conrete Blonde), which were all superb, I was kind of hoping that Worst Fears Realized by Stuart Woods would follow the same track. It was not to be. As bad as it was, however, for some reason I stayed to the bitter end.
Rating: Summary: Stone Barrington - You know this is fiction! Review: Although I enjoyed the story, I have a real hard time swallowing the character of Stone Barrington! No one with any conscience can jump in and out of bed like this guy, I don't care how good looking he is. With as many women as this guy has slept with he is sure to have a fatal disease by now!
