Review: I thought it was fast moving and challenging,in that you could not foretell the future of the story.

Summary: I was disappointed.
Review:

I became a Greg Iles fan after reading THE QUIET GAME and was really looking forward to his latest offering.

I read DEAD SLEEP in one sitting, but not because I was riveted to the chair....I kept reading because I wanted to find something to like.

The story centers around Jordan Glass, an award-winning photojournalist who's burned out, used up and looking for some meaning to her life. She has never recovered from the loss of her father (also a photojournalist killed during the Viet Nam Conflict) and she's only recently had to deal with the disappearance of her twin sister Jane.

After one of her friends insists on her seeing an exhibit of Chinese watercolors said to capture the pure essence of nature, Jordan hops on a plane to Hong Kong. At the exhibit, not only does she see the watercolors, she stumbles upon the work of an anonymous artist who paits women in various stages of sleep (or is it death)....and finds herself staring into the eyes of her missing sister.

From there, to plot thickens, but never gels....at least not to me. I'm not sure what Iles was trying to accomplish (other than to create a villan in the image of the wicked Hannibal), but it didn't work for me.

I wish Iles would stick to what he does so well...writing about the South and its rich characters. Flitting from Hong Kong, to DC, to New York and thereabouts didn't make for interesting reading.

Iles is better than this.

Summary: Okay, but not his best!
Review: I've read all of Mr Iles books and I think this is my least favorite. It just wasn't compelling enough to really pull me in and make me feel as if I had to know what was going to happen next. It seemed too redundant at times. The lady photojournalist just befriended some of the suspects to easily for me. Overall the story just fell flat. Still I consider him one of my favorite authors and look forward to his next novel.

Summary: wait for the paperback edition
Review: I am a big fan of Greg Iles. It was with much anticipation that I began this novel. There is nothing better then the anticipation of a page turner that you just can not put down. Unfortunately this particular story was not such a novel. It was definately a good read but this is one worth waiting for the paperback edition.

Summary: WOW, ONE OF 3 BEST THRILLERS THIS SUMMER!
Review: Greg Iles gets better and better. This tale of murder, twin sisters, weird art and love is possibly his best book yet. One of the three best thrillers this summer - along with TELL NO ONE by HARLAN COBEN and POWER OF ATTORNEY by (UK author) DEXTER DIAS - thriller of the month in the UK.

All 3 books v. highly recommended.

Summary: DEAD SLEEP--BIG WINNER
Review: As a mystery author with my first novel in its initial release, I was immediately taken by the power of this thriller. In DEAD SLEEP, Greg Iles tells the story of photojournalist Jordan Glass. Jordan discovers her twin sister's face in a portrait of a dead woman. The sister has been missing for over a year, and she is assumed to be the victim of a serial killer. Strangely enough, the other women pictured in the exhibit's other paintings are also missing/dead. John Kaiser, FBI agent, drafts Jordan into helping the Feds find the artist. There are also suggestions that there may be a linkage to Jordan's father's disappearance in Vietnam decades ago. With DEAD SLEEP, Iles has given us another first-class thriller. Great work.

Summary: The Review
Review: I anticipated reading Greg Isles' new book, Dead Sleep, the minute I bought it, as I enjoyed his last book, 24 Hours, very much.

After reading Dead Sleep, I was not disappointed but it just did not do it for me like his previous book.

I enjoyed the characters but what may have lost me was the technical mumbo jumbo and the ending which could have happened. Maybe.

Greg is still my author and I anticipate his new book sometime next year or in 2003.

Happy reading......

Summary: Haunting and unputdownable.
Review: ... I think that's a word. It is now.

Greg Iles takes us on a journey through the strange world of art and art collecting. Intelligent and full of surprises. The heroine - the story is told in the first person - is smart while vulnerable enough to miss straying into preachiness, although male/female issues are scattered throughout. The dialogue and prose are crisp, energetic, and believable. While many writers are content to craft a good plot, Iles hones his writing as well.

Lacks the moral undercurrent of "Black Cross" - such as the powerful scene where the rabbi questions the author's "easy agnosticism" - yet thoroughly enjoyable.

Summary: Dead Sleep
Review: Warning! Don't start this book unless you have time to finish it . It is wonderful! You won't be able to put it down.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Not the best, but the best out there
Review: Is anyone thinking that Greg Iles stands out there as one of the best authors we have? We wait with anticipation for each book and Dead Sleep won't disappoint Greg Iles fans. When photojournalist Jordan Glass see her 'glass' likeness in an art collection of nude ladies purported to be not sleeping, but dead, she goes on a treck to find an answer to the mystery of her twin sister's disappearance, and the disappearance of others in the New Orleans area. The story has all the elements of a masterful thriller, but what is lacking is the lyrical quality that has been present in Iles' previous books. Look up the ist paragraph chapter 25 of Quiet Game - those words touch the heart and take you upward. Dead Sleep keeps you in the here and now and solidly, not lyrically, takes you through a wonderfully plotted book. Not his best, but Greg Iles ranks tops out there.
