Rating: Summary: Don't even bother Review: As an avowed fan of the "Prey" series, I borrowed this book with the utmost expectations. Previous installments have been reading highlights, especially in areas of marginal character development and plotting. This leaden tome fails on all fronts, from its total lack of characterization to its stupendously inane deus ex machina conclusion. Let's sincerely hope that the estimable Mr. Sandford regains his footing in the next of the series.
Rating: Summary: VINTAGE SANDERSON Review: The underlying humour which pervades the Prey Series returned in style with Easy Prey. The characters - building over the last few years - are growing and maturing lending another dimension to this very easy very witty and very exciting Davenport Tale. Not as scary - perhaps a little predictable I am still looking forward to the next in the series - if only to find out who was the caller as Lucas picked up the phone.....
Rating: Summary: Not his best... but better than many author's very best Review: The latest in the prey series is certainly not the author's best effort. In fact it seems possible that it's a rework of an earlier unpublished version. However, John Sandford at this less-than-best is far better than many authors writing in this genre. Now - to wait for the next one!
Rating: Summary: I even recommended it! Review: I am surprised at the number of less than positive reviews...I didn't compare this novel to any of the previous ones although I have read them all and found this one to be a good mystery. Seemed to hang together. Different style but nonetheless not a waste of a few hours.
Rating: Summary: EASY PREY Review: THE BIG CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS 'PREY' NOVELS IS THE ELIMINATION OF THE ANTAGONIST'S PRESPECTIVE IN FAVOR OF THE 'WHO-DONE-IT' FORMAT. I THINK WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS A CASE OF TRYING TO FIX SOMETHING THAT WAS NEVER BROKEN. PART OF THE REASON PREVIOUS 'PREY' NOVELS WERE SO GOOD WAS BECAUSE OF THE DETAILED ATTENTION PAYED TO THE VILLIAN AND HIS/HER THOUGHTS. REMEMBER KOOP, OR RINKER? IN EASY PREY THIS IS GONE. IT HURT. THE ENDING WAS LAZY AND PRETTY FAR-FETCHED, DEFINETELY HURRIED.
Rating: Summary: Where is the REAL Lucas? Review: I love the Davenport series, I look forward to each new book~I even toyed with the thought of buying Easy Prey in hard back....so very glad I waited! My copy came from the library, I couldn't wait to return this~I usually read the newest Davenport in one day...this took forever! I kept losing interest, it just does not live up to the previous books. I almost didn't finish the book, but I kept thinking~this has to get better~it didn't! Please bring the REAL Lucas back!
Rating: Summary: Easy Prey - too easy for the writer Review: I have to agree with others that this is, by far, John Sanford's worst. I look so forward to each of his books and love Lucas Davenport. But this book was a huge disappointment. His earlier novels seemed so real that you found yourself checking to make sure your doors were locked so some killer didn't come after you. With Easy Prey, I couldn't relate. I think we've all had enough of the drugged-out models and that whole scene. I expected a lot more from an obviously talented writer. As a lot of writers get more popular, they seem to churn out more garbage because people buy based on their previous experiences. Sad to say, but John Sanford just churned this one out.
Rating: Summary: Not his best Review: Not the best of the 'Prey': series but if you are a fan of Lucas Davenport (which I am) you will still want read this one. I don't think this book is as focused as some of the other 'Prey' books. This could also be a case of me over anticipating this book. A friend of mine read it, and it was her first John Sanford novel and she loved it. I am jealous she gets to go back and read all the early 'Prey' books. Also recommended: 'A Tourist in the Yucatan' Juicy mystery/thriller!
Rating: Summary: Silly Hanson, Silly People, Silly Plot, Silly Ending! Review: I like John Sanford's work and as such I really tried to like Easy Prey. In fact, I even listened to the audiobook twice, but it was still as confusing the second time around and as convoluted. The story's premise is that Silly Hanson gives a wild, raucous, drug infested party which Alie's the Supermodel attends. While hanging out at the party Alie'e is murdered along with another woman who true to Sanford's style is found in the closet. Almost everyone close to Alie'e is a suspect until one by one someone begins to murder them. Luca Davenport as usual is on the latest case to solve the crime and figure out whodunit. Other than murders everywhere and a very unlikely, out of nowhere perpetrator, and sup-plots involving Luca Davenport's multitude of women...the plot is fairly weak if you're listening to the audiobook version. While Davenport is a big boy and should have a lady friend/main squeeze in his life ...does he need so many? Seems Davenport spent more time juggling women friend than he did trying to solve the murder mystery. Additionally, It was almost impossible to keep up with all of the characters and it seemed that when you started to even remotely become curious or concerned about one of the characters they were quickly replaced by an equally undeveloped new character. While I found Easy Prey somewhat interesting/entertaining, the second time listening to the audiobook, Easy Prey alone wouldn't be enough to make me like or purchase future Sanford/ Luca Davenport series. Previous books such as Certain Prey and Mind Prey were so much better with storyline, character development and suspense, hang on to your hat plot twisters.... I will continue to purchase Sanford's books, however, I will probably read the reviews before I run out and buy the next book. Also For first time readers, to get a better idea of just how good Sanford is with the Davenport series, I would recommend that you read a couple of Sanford's previous works or wait until the paperback comes out before purchasing Easy Prey.
Rating: Summary: What Happened! Review: Bring back the old Lucas Davenport. This is the worst of the series. I've read them all and I've liked them all. What happened Mr Sanford? Are your tiring of Lucas and company. It took me two weeks to read this book, where is usually takes me a day or two. There was no punch, no excitement. For a while there I started to get confused when they finally got around to figuring out who the killer was. And Lucas has never made this many mistakes. The ending was as lackluster as heck. Mr Sandford, I can't believe you did this to your loyal fans. And believe me, I am a loyal fan to your character Lucas Davenport. This still doesn't mean I'll given up. I can only hope the next Davenport novel is better.
