Rating: Summary: Not as good as his other Prey books Review: This Lucas Davenport book is not nearly as exciting or gripping as most of his other books in the Prey series. The plot is too scattered, and Davenport's women problems seemed superficial and forced. It almost seemed to me like the relationship stuff was added as an overlayer in the hopes of reinforcing a loose and weak plot. The ending was very contrived and thus very disappointing.
Rating: Summary: Easy Prey Review: I thought Easy Prey was much better than Certain Prey because once again Sanford concentrated on Davenport and not the protagonist like he did in Certain Prey. I was hooked from the first page and read it in a weekend. Lucas Davenport has his hands full and I can't wait to see what happens in the next Prey novel...which one will he choose? Maybe none of them. I give this one 6 stars.
Rating: Summary: Average Sanford Fare.... Review: which still equates to above average everyone else. I found this book to be the average Sanford / Lucas Davenport book. Nothing out of the ordinary is introduced in this installment of the Prey's and the plot twists were a bit of a stretch, in hindsight. Despite this, I couldn't help but devour the book. And , if you have never read John Sanford, then you are in for a treat with this series and this book is fairly typical. You will find a good, but imperfect character in Lucas Davenport whose great skill as a detective is a contrast to his personal life, and at times you may find yourself saying "Oh Man Lucas, why are you doing that?"
Rating: Summary: Also very disappointed Review: The first ten pages were interesting, the level of writing I expect from this author. Then the plot stalled. The characters were uninteresting and not well developed. It seemed like the author was going through the motions, throwing in anything sexual that would "shock" the reader. After fifty pages, I found I really didn't care "who did it" and stopped reading.
Rating: Summary: Another good Prey book Review: This was a great Lucas Davenport book.fast and somewhat confusing....It took a long time to sort out all the characters that Sandford gave us. And I even liked when he started to recall past events from the other Prey books, but it took a lot to keep up with this one. I was not prepared for the "villian" at the end. I kept thinking I had it figured out and then ...Wham! ...my suspect is murdered too. <g> I couldn't make the connections and the ending was not as well prepared as some of the other books he's written. But that doesn't mean I won't be waiting for the next one out..I WILL. The ending here is a cliff hanger for sure, and I will refrain from giving my opinion on that...don't want to give away everything. Others have mentioned poor editing and I did see evidence of that too. I can't give an exact example right now, but I know there were instances that were repeated within one or two pages of each other. That happens to all writers I'm sure. All in all, this is a recommendation for anyone that like police procedural/mystery/suspense type books...get it now.
Rating: Summary: Sandford Returns to Form Review: A good Prey book is like easing into a hot bath. You know you'll be able to sit back, relax and enjoy it. After being somewhat disappointed by the last Prey offering, I felt that John Sandford went back to his strengths - strong compelling characters, crisp and witty dialogue and enough twists and turns to keep you up far later than is healthy for a working stiff. It's also nice to see Lucas continue to evolve as a character, flaws and all.
Rating: Summary: Solid As Ususal Review: Sanford delivers his usual well written thriller. The hooks were topical, the characters solid, the pace good. The "mystery woman" twist was unusual (as if REAL Sanford readers need a reason to wait for the next installment) The only downer was the actual killer; a bit of a stretch. Well worth the time and money spent; but I still think Lucas is waiting for Miss right...Next time?
Rating: Summary: Better than the last one Review: Despite the comments of some of the other readers, I actually enjoyed this one a bit better than the last. At least Lucas is back to bantering around with his co-workers, and his ambivalent relationship with the assorted women in his life is pretty interesting. However, in these days of AIDS and unsafe sex, it's interesting that Lucas runs into bed with Jael with no sense of consequences - since she seems pretty indiscriminate about her sexual partners... I liked the fallible nature of Lucas this time, though, and the plot was pretty interesting. Agree with the editing comments though - how can these big name publishers get off letting these errors go by?
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: This book, the 11th in the Prey series, brings back novel star, Lucas Davenport. This isn't his best book, but it is worth reading. John Sandford is an excellent writer and I would recommend any of his books. This book brings back many of the exciting elements in the Prey books, Money, greed, murder, mystery and beautiful women.
Rating: Summary: Easy Prey Review: I was disappointed in this latest Sandford offering, and I buy his books, the day that they are released. This mystery thriller drug, and in the end, I felt that he had to end it, and hadn't a clue whom to name as the killer, since most of the major players had already become victims. I definitely would not recommend this one.
