Summary: The Surgeon was disappointing.
Review: I have read all of Gerritsen's books and always look forward to her new ones. I couldnt finish this book. She has veered from her fascinating medical thriller format to this slice and dice psychotic murderer format and Im so disappointed.

Summary: BE STILL MY HEART
Review: My heart pounded so hard that I had to put it down to calm the chest pain. The title belies thesuspense and horror to follow. This is my first read by this author and I'm looking forward to her next one, "The Apprentice" butnot for awhile. There are 2 chapters of that one at the end of"The Surgeon" in the Paper Back edition.By the title I thought this would be a medical mystery about a doctor's adventures. The surgery involved is not the kind you want to think about, or have done. Thereading is so absorbing and realistic you may read it straightthru because you can't wait to seewhat happens next. I hope you have a companion in the house or at least a pet to keep you comforted. If I revealed some details, you would say, forget it, too unrealistic BUT you would be verywrong. If you have a heart condition, be forewarned and keep your nitro handy. And fasten your seat belts! WHAT A RIDE.

Summary: Absolute Terror for a Woman Physician Stalked by a Fiend
Review: This is about as suspenseful as a story can get. It's also shocking, so be prepared. Dr. Catherine Cordell is a trauma surgeon in a Boston Hospital. She is extremely conscious of her security because several years earlier, while she was at Emory University in Georgia, a serial killer was entering womens' bedrooms, tying them, and performing surgery on them without anesthesia. When he had inflicted maximum pain, he killed them. One night, a resident visited her, supposedly to discuss his poor work. Instead, he drugged her with Rohypnol, and she awoke to find herself tied to her bed while he prepared for surgery on her. She got a hand free, grabbed a pistol from under her bed and shot him. Case closed. But now, someone is killing women the same way in Boston, and the killer knows things that were never made public. It soon becomes clear that Catharine Cordell is the fiend's ultimate target. This story has so much suspense that it is hard to put it down. The plot is clever, and the book is thoroughly enjoyable.

Summary: Really holds you!
Review: Wow! This was a very creative story, I truly enjoyed the way it was written, it involved a lot of information but not so much that you wanted to throw it against the wall, and I appreciate books that do that! Highly recommended!

Summary: A Definite Page-Turner
Review: This is the first book by Tess Gerritsen that I every read. I found myself holding my breathe along with the victims. I had to keep every light in my house on if I wanted to fall asleep at all. You're gonna love it. I'm going to order all her books.

Summary: A Taut , Well-Crafted Thriller.......
Review: "The Surgeon" is a well crafted and taut thriller. It is a well done example of the cat and mouse game played between a serial killer and the police. It combines gruesome forensic details with clever police work and leads to a disturbing climax. There is also a distinct "whodunit" aspect to "The Surgeon" that ads to the entertainment value of this novel. The story is also told from a distinctly female perspective.

The characters in "The Surgeon" are nicely sketched out. There is a hard as nails female detective seemingly at war with her own sexuality (and members of her own police department) investigating a series of vicious murders; her partner a cool headed, straight laced detective still in mourning; the shadowy, disturbed killer who is always present but isn't; and the beautiful and brilliant trauma surgeon who becomes one mans obsession and another mans lover.

The authors medical background is clearly evident as the passages set in Emergency Rooms or surgery wards are pulse pounding page tuners. This background is also clearly evident in grisly detailing of the murders committed. Fans of the TV shows ER and CSI will find these elements highly satisfying.

I found "The Surgeon" to be highly entertaining and engrossing. I read the final half of the book in a single sitting. I am pleased to have found a new author and look forward to reading more of her works.

Summary: The Surgeon
Review: I am an avid reader, so I tend to be a little jaded about what a "really good" book is. THIS is a great book. It held my attention from page one, there was no stage where I felt I had to "get into it." I was there from the get go. I would say it is a must read for suspense lovers.

Summary: Spellbinding Mystery
Review: Someone is killing women in Boston in a very gruesome and ritualistic manner. The killer is threatening Doctor Catherine Cordell. Is it someone she knows? Someone she works with? She was attacked two years ago by a doctor she worked with and the similarities to these killings are striking. But she killed her attacker, so how could this be happening again? Gerritsen weaves all these questions together in a spellbinding mystery. The Characters are strong and well developed. I especially liked detective Thomas Moore. He isn't as dark as Harry Bosch in Michael Connelly's books, but he is just as sensitive and likeable. The dialog is snappy and believable and moves the story along at a brisk pace. The ending is action filled and absolutely riveting. An excellent read.
