Rating: Summary: Outstanding read Review: I picked up a copy of this book on the recommendation of a friend, and it hardly left my hands for the next two days. Iles writes with extraordinary clarity, so scenes unfold with almost videolike immediacy. With few exceptions, Iles doesnt' get in the way of his story. Although he writes well, there's no obvious attempts to draw the readers attention to his writing--for example, despite his obvious affection for the South, he doesn't resort to lyrical, adjective-ridden passages about its qualities. Just a good story, filled with compelling characters, told well.
Rating: Summary: GRIPPING! Review: The Quiet Game by Greg Iles has to be the best book I've read in a long time. Has you hooked right from the very first page. Couldn't put it down! Read it, you'll be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: The TRUE master of the thriller Review: Like MORTAL FEAR before it, Greg Iles' THE QUIET GAME is an unrelenting, unputdownable thriller. After the death of his wife, former Houston prosecutor turned novelist Penn Cage returns to his boyhood home of Natchez, Mississippi with his young daughter Annie. A comment he believes to have been made off the record during an interview with Caitlin Masters, editor of the local newspaper regarding the suspicious death of a black man which occurred 30 years ago, opens a Pandora's box of family secrets, scandal, blackmail, and even government complicity in the crime itself. Greg Iles writes with such understated elegance, yet elicits such powerful emotions. His books hit home on so many different levels with great insight and intelligence. To compare Iles' to John Grisham seems unfair, since frankly, Grisham pales in comparison to this bright and talented writer. THE QUIET GAME should not be missed...and after reading it, pick up MORTAL FEAR as well.
Rating: Summary: The Quiet Game Review: The first Iles book I've read. The southern setting appealed to me as well as the time frame of the 1968 murder story line. I highly recommend. It's Grisham but doesn't fall apart at the end. Will look for this author in the future.
Rating: Summary: a great book by a great author Review: Iles has done it again. This is the fourth book of his that I have read, and they have all been outstanding. He does an excellent job of developing characters and setting up sub plots. I would recommend all of Greg Iles books to anyone that enjoys a good read.
Rating: Summary: grisham fades - iles rules Review: Mortal Fear totally fascinated me. Now I am subjected to on- line reviewers who compare Iles to Grisham. I am a Grisham fan, however, his books take me 2 days. Iles, in "The Quiet Game," made me reflect...made me ponder...made me read for 5-6 days. His story was not one that could be downed in 2 days. It took some knoshing...biting into the plot and taking slow care as to the whole storyline. That racial intrigue and a lawyer home from many years ago caught my interest. Greg Iles is a very interesting author. I might compare him to Dennis Lehane. Just a special writer with extreme talent. Read both...you will not be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: A Great Read Review: I have read everythng that this author has written and have not been disappointed by anything. I think he is a terrific writer and I look forward to seeing more from this author.
Rating: Summary: Great Novel Review: I just finished reading this book. It was fantastic and one I will recommend to others. I wanted a novel to read for vacation. I took 4 novels which had been recommend to read the first paragraph for the one which would capture my interest rapidly. I read the first paragraph of "The Quiet Game." I did not even look at the others. Excellent plot and twist. Characters were easy to become involved with. Not wanting to ruin the read for anyone, I would just say don't pass this book up.
Rating: Summary: The plot is thick with suspense! Review: This book is very well written with not a single moment of boredom. Every page is exciting. The plot expands beautifully throughout the entire book and keeps you guessing until the very end. The characters develop in a way that makes you grow to love them. It's a great book.
Rating: Summary: Hard to put down but not his best Review: Just finished this very exiting book and I am still waiting for Iles' to match "Black Cross". I have enjoyed almost all of this authors books (except for Spandeau ) but once again I am still waiting for another book to reach the level of excitment he reached in "Black Cross". Perhaps if the characters were a little more developed and not so evil or good.
