Summary: Pacy and exciting
Review: Following the death of his young wife,Penn Cage,a former prosecutor for the District Attorneys Office in Houston now turned novelist, finds the strain of rearing his small daughter too difficult and returns to the home of his parents in Natchez,Mississippi,to find that his father,a respected doctor is being blackmailed. In trying to find the cause,he brings back to public attention a long ago murder case, and in so doing, stirs up a hornets nest of racial tension, hatred and hidden secrets. He is aided in his search for the truth by a beautiful young journalist who senses a potentially huge story about to break. This is a tale of old grudges, greed and violence, set in a picturebook antebellum town where everything appears serene on the surface but where hatred and fear lie just below. The book is fast paced and well written and I kept casting the characters with appropriate actors as it would make a cracking movie.

Summary: Definitely a can't put it down
Review: Although parts of the book were hard to believe, I found this a book you can't put down. I have read all of Iles books and this is as good as the rest.

One part I found very interesting was the sub plot of a lost love returns. I think many of us have a had a love leave us and always wonder what it would be like if they returned. This novel explores that issue albeit as part of the main plot.

I was a little disappointed during the trial when undiscovered evidence was found to save the day, but I guess that is standard.

All in all, heartily give this book a good thumbs up.

Summary: So much better than Grisham...
Review: It amazes me that John Grisham is a bestselling author while Greg Iles is exactly what he describes in this book - a mdedium selling author with a following but no John Grisham!

This book will keep you guessing. The main character is sympathetically portrayed - a young widower raising his daughter alone - who decides to move home to mom and dad to give his daughter and his life some stability. Lo and behold, he enters into a web of deceit, corruption, blackmail and murder - and that's just day one!

Even J. Edgar Hoover is brought back into play, along with his horrible henchmen. You get a good feel for life in Natchez with this book. It reminded me of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" - not so much the plot, but the way life is portrayed.

Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Well written, easy flowing, overall enjoyable.
Review: I've never read this author before, but I was pleasantly surprised. This book is well written, with characters that touch your heart and hidden meanings that come to light in meaningful ways. I admire the main character's stamina, strength and perserverance in the face of strong tragedy and heartache. The little girl is believable and you can picture her as cute, and yet the author does not overdo her. All in all, the plot is interesting, and not hard to get through at all. Intrigue and suspense combine to form a novel that will keep you turning pages.

Summary: Smart, intelligent read
Review: I read Mortal Fear recently and loved it. When I read Quiet game, I was amaxed at how different the book is from Mortal fear - no formulas with this author. The story is intelligent and well writtten. The characters really got to me - I found myself crying at the funeral. If your looking for a excellant read, this book is for you.

Summary: Very Disappointing
Review: After reading Mortal Fear, I was really looking forward to Greg's latest novel. Hard to believe it was written by the same person. The story is old, has been done many times and he has the typical name dropping of cars, clothes, etc.(who cares! ) I regret buying this book (in hardcover) and wouldnt recommend it.

Summary: Greg gets better and better
Review: The Quiet Game is an excellent book. Just like Mortal Fear you never really know whats going to happen and the hero is as flawed as the rest of us. If you haven't read Greg before you should give him a shot, he has great attention to detail and his plot twists are amazing.

Summary: A great new find
Review: This was my first Greg Iles book, and I have gone back to order more and will look for his books to come. The characters were well developed, and the plot fascinating. In going back 30 years to solve a murder, relationships that have changed the course of lives, and the events in the town of Natchez come to light. The Quiet Game is more compelling and literate than Grisham's books. I enjoyed the insight into Mississippi culture and the racial boundaries that existed in the late 60's as well as the ongoing revelations about J. Edgar Hoover.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: The Quiet Game Speaks Loudly
Review: Iles once again writes an entertaining compelling story. Though somewhat less intense and riveting than his other works, The Quiet Game is the best exploration of southern racism since Grisham's best work in A Time to Kill. A real nice change of pace for Iles. Done with conviction and agreat deal of personality. It was easy to connect with all the characters

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Simply an enjoyable read....twisting and entertaining.
Review: This was my first Greg Iles book and I'd like to compliment him on an enjoyable read. It is the perfect "beach" book. In some instances, Iles went a little overboard on his plot twists...for example...Ike the Spike's revelation wasn't necessary and he wouldn't have been the slightest bit cooperative at any time during the book. Also, in the last three days Penn Cage never slept and must have had super human strength bordering on unbelievable. However, on the whole, Iles kept my attention and my pages turning. I look forward to more of Greg Iles' work.
