Rating: Summary: Hot! Hot! Hot! Review: Linda Howard has created a masterpiece in her new novel, Mr. Perfect. You might as well plan on kicking back with uninterrupted time to read this book straight through. The characters are wonderful, the dialogue sizzles, and the sex is hot!Jaine Bright and her three friends from work meet every Friday night for drinks, dinner, and girl talk, which we all know from experience usually turns into man bashing. During the course of dinner, they start discussing the perfect man and list the characteristics they think Mr. Perfect should have. As you can imagine, the list starts out seriously, then ends up discussing phyiscal endowments. Their list inadvertently becomes public knowledge. First in the company's newsletter, then on a website, and finally the media gets hold of it. At first the women try to keep their identity secret so no one will know who is behind "The List" as it has become known. When their coworkers figure out who is behind "The List", their lives become chaotic--women applaud them, men feel threatened. They decide to go public hoping all the media blitz will dies down. Little do they know they have offended someone who takes a murderous view of Mr. Perfect. The dialogue and sexual tension in this book between Jaine and her neighbor, Sam Donovan, is unbelievable. The snappy one liners had me cracking up throughout the entire book. Both Jaine and Sam are strong characters who strike sparks off each other. The bond between the four women will touch your heart. The beginning of this book threw me off when I started reading it. The opening prologue is eeries and gave me the creeps. Then with the first chapter, it's almost like you're reading a comedy for the first half of the book--then the suspense starts in the second half. I don't know how Ms. Howard managed to combine comedy and suspense, but believe me, she did a fantastic job of it.
Rating: Summary: Terrific! Review: I just turned the last page on Mr. Perfect...what can I say, Ms. Howard has done it again. The neat thing about this book was the shift in writing style (just a little bit). I have read all of Ms. Howard's hard covers and most of her paperbacks. This one had the most humor. The heroine, Jaine, was absolutly terrific. She is smart, savy and has a terrific sense of humor. I had to put the book down several times and just laugh! Some of the best one-liners you'll ever read! And our hero Sam, well he was just yummy! This was a bit on the lighter side than most of Ms. Howard's books, but I really enjoyed it. Memorable characters. I enjoyed the friendship between these 4 women and grieved along with the heroine as her circle of friends is broken. Even though the plot was predictable and perhaps not as complex as some of her past work, it didn't hinder the enjoyment of the book. All in all, a great read.
Rating: Summary: Ugh! Did we all read the same book? Review: Judging by the other reveiws, I must have read a different book from everybody else. I thought Mr. Perfect was trashy. It was so superficial--I didn't care about the main characters at all. It was really very short, too. Look at the size of the type. The quality of Linda Howard's books seems uneven and I am not sure what style she is going for. All the Queen's men was light on the romance, but at least I cared more about the characters. Mr. Perfect is heavy on sex--with lots of juevenile humor--but none of the characters struck a positive chord with me. Except the cat. The cat I liked.
Rating: Summary: Witty, intelligent, and very sexy! Review: Linda Howard's new book "Mr. Perfect" is all these things and more. The main characters in this book are all intelligent and very modern with a wonderful sense of humor. I loved the banter between our two main characters, Sam and Jaine. Ms. Howard doesn't sacrafice romance or heat for the mystery of the story. Sam and Jaine really burn up the sheets. Even thought you know who the murderer is from the very beginning you dont's really know who it is and the end is a wonderful twist. So on my "List" for a perfect book is 1)Romance 2)Humor 3)Great characters 4)and a good story with a bit of intrigue. This book has it all. This is going on my shelf right next to my other Howard favorites "The MacKenzie Family" and "The MacKenzies".
Rating: Summary: Major Disappointment Review: What a disappointment after waiting so long for Linda Howard's new book. I guess the nicest way to put it would be to say that the book and its title characters are crude--the kind of crude that the lower orders consider sophisticated humor. Perhaps the type who hang out at Hooters will find Mr. Perfect and its characters vastly amusing and full of sophisticated sexual humor. Those with a bit of taste will be left cold by the low-class hero and heroine--who might not have been so unappealing if they had been developed more by the author. As with so many authors, the move from category to mainstream has taken a nasty toll on Ms. Howard's work. I think back to some of her early categories--Almost Forever, The Cutting Edge--then read Mr. Perfect and am very sad. I hold out hope that her new category (Silhouette) due out this month will be a return to the high-quality,higher-class storytelling that originally attracted me to Ms. Howard's books.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely the best hero and heroine from Linda Howard yet Review: Alleluiah! This book redeems Linda Howard's recent hardbacks with the most crackling pair of lovers she's put together in a long time. The timing and pacing really set up the story and the dialogue was laugh outloud funny. I felt this story delivered on the promise that the last three novels hinted at -- Mr. Perfect is a much more even and evenly developed story -- the romance, the threat and the characters. If you love Linda Howard, you'll love this one.
Rating: Summary: Delighted in Missouri Review: Linda Howard is back on track with this book. The romance was great, the characters were warm and funny. Heroine was quick witted and tough. After being disappointed with "All the Queens Men" my faith in Linda Howard has been restored. Excellent mix of mystery, who-done-it, sex and romance. Stirred my emotions and made me laugh. I had a wonderful time reading it and savored it 'til the end.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Perfect is a perfect hit! Review: Linda Howard will not disappoint her legions of fans with her latest romantic suspense, Mr. Perfect. The key word here is romantic. A lot of her faithful readers, including me, were disheartened by her last book, All the Queen's Men, because much of the romantic tension (which is her hallmark) seemed to be missing. Not so in Mr. Perfect. The plot revolves around a list of attributes that make up the perfect man-- a list concocted by four female co-workers and friends at their regular Friday-night, afterwork, unwind-with a-few-drinks get together. The List is righteous and raunchy. It becomes a hot topic of water cooler conversation after it is leaked and appears in a renegade company newsletter and on the Internet. What follows is an avalanche of publicity and attention as everyone in first the region, then the nation is talking about the List. It also catches the attention of a psychopath who is determined to eliminate the List ladies, one by one. The heroine, Jaine Bright, enlists the assistance of her sexy cop neighbor, Sam Donovan, when she fears that she and her friends are in mortal danger. Jaine is funny and smart with a wicked wit and a gutter mouth that she is trying desperately to clean up. Sam is strong, hunky and gives as good as Jaine in the verbal jabs department. The romance develops between the two like slow foreplay-- its simmers, sizzles and finally explodes. Unlike the heroine and hero in All the Queen's Men, Sam and Jaine are together throughout the book as they spar, kiss, make love and attempt to find the killer. Despite the grim premise, this book is funnier and more lighthearted than previous Linda Howard novels. Granted there are some very sad scenes, but the dialogue and characterizations throughout kept me laughing. The friendship among the four woman was also well-drawn and captured the laughter, loyalty, empathy and yes raunchiness that women who are good friends can display with each other. I enjoyed Mr. Perfect immensely, was sad to see it end, and can't wait for her next book!
Rating: Summary: Simply Perfect! Review: What makes for the perfect man? This is one of the questions raised in this saucy little murder mystery. Just having a little fun four woman make up a list of the requirements of the perfect man, but the list has a life of its own and so becomes something of a national sensation. All is fun and games until one of the women is murdered! This Is fun reading, that makes you think a little but not too much -- good for a day at the beach! You also might check out "A Tourist in the Yucatan" another good beach read!
Rating: Summary: A good read for the afternoon Review: If you like a little suspense and passion you will enjoy Mr. Perfect. I found the characters human and enjoyable. Ms. Howard put a twist in the end that I never expected. Ms. Howard wrote a romantic suspense novel with humor, sensitivity, and tension. It isn't often I can read something that will make my stomach curl with fright then hurt with laughter and all in a few hours.
