Rating: Summary: PERFECT NARRATIVE BY MS. HOWARD Review: So what if Mr. Perfect has a predictable murder plot - despite all its flaws, Linda Howard with her previous bestseller All the Queen's Men has never been so lyrical and hilarious in her narrative. Mr. Perfect is unabashedly entertaining with Jaine Bright as the witty and feisty heroine who, with her friends in their reverie, stumbles upon a provocative topic - qualities of a perfect mate. From there, it is refreshing and all buoyant humour - TJ, Luna and Marci with Jaine chalks up a list that spreads rampantly like diaspora through the Internet and become embroiled in media frenzy as Marci slipped her tongue to one of her colleague. The "perfect storm" in the speculation rages on. Never once a moment banal, Jaine Bright is suitably energetic and is a believable character - and her chemistry with Sam Donovan - a neighbour cop is scintillating and effervescent. They fall in love with incendiary sensuality and fierce emotions; beautifully contrasted against the recovered love between TJ and her husband Galan - which is all tender and heartwarming. Despite all its unbridled fun, there is a core for humanity and love. Romance readers will be swarming to the picture perfect scenario of Sam and Jaine. The murder plot may not be perfect murder but it is credible with all the guessing of who-dun-it when Marci is killed. A psycho killer Corin is in the lurks with his twisted mind. Grisly. Morbid. I wouldn't want to spoil the fun for you by revealing his identity. It keeps the story going and spiced up with passionate love scenes between Jaine and Sam, you wouldn't want the book to end. Linda Howard is a master of the romance genre and with the hilarious banters, it is all seductive pleasure at its best - and you will religiously believe that Ms. Howard is a perfectionist in her writing.
Rating: Summary: a mystery, sex and laughter Review: I loved this book! I definitely read it in one sitting laughing out loud and causing everyone to continually ask me what was so funny.... I told them they just had to read the book themselves to find out because it was so good. I did figure out the killer pretty quickly but since I usually figure out whohasdunit way before the end of a book it wasn't a disappointment especially since the main characters were just such fun. The sexual tension and friendship between them was excellent. This is a must read for anyone who loves to laugh and loves Linda Howard books.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Perfect is perfect summer read Review: Beware of reading this book in public, you will be laughing, and snickering out loud - a lot. The list ladies are smart and you don't find yourself saying "why did you do that!" As for Jaine's neighbor Sam, well you have to read the book. This is the best Linda Howard book yet.
Rating: Summary: Mr.Perfect....well not quite Review: I really did like this book! It was interesting and really fasted paced! However I think that the friendship between the 4 women in the book could have been a preserved a little better! What happend to Luna(one of the friends)seemed a bit unessasary and over the top! Other then that I though the romance was excellent as usual...and I think that fact that she tried to give more detail on some of the minor players was well thought out.
Rating: Summary: Great Hero, Great Romance, So-so mystery Review: Mr. Perfect is Sam Donovan who has to be one of the best Linda Howard heros in years. Faithful, Nice, Dependable, Steady job and oh yeah ... heh, heh, hem, ... most of the other Mr. Perfect qualifications too. The dialogs between Sam and Jaine were zingers and always LOL funny. And Sexy! No one, absolutely no one, writes sexual tension the way Linda Howard does, and Mr. Perfect doesn't fail the standard. Unfortunately, while the romance between Jaine and Sam is five-star terrific, the murder mystery is 3 star so-so, and the blood and gore is 1 star Yuck! I guessed "whodunnit" immediately, so no surprises there for me. And the blood, gore and horror of the murders did not juxtapose well. Sam and Jaine deserved a different vehicle for their romance. Some small quibbles with the ending of the romance... Jaine's "engagement problem" was more or less a running gag through the entire book, so what happened in the end? Did she and Sam actually make it to the altar? And what about Sam's new State job? Did Jaine quit her job to follow Sam? And what happened with the two houses? I think an epilogue tieing up these loose ends was clearly needed and without it the book just didn't seem finished to me.
Rating: Summary: Terrific Review: yes this book is a mystery/thriller, yes its a romance with hot steamy love scenes, but what I really liked about the book was the wicked sense of humor Ms. Howard has shown herself to have. I am a new and now devoted reader. I laughted till I though I would cry. there is a part where Jaine and Sam talk about Jaine's egg. I had to back up and read it again, I laughted so hard. Some of the readers are complaining about Jaine and Sam getting together so quickly, hey guys remember its fiction, your just suppose to enjoy! Most books unless their fact, and sometimes those, have parts of them someone finds hard to believe. Ms. Howard please keep writing. By the way I owe you a quarter, this was a HELL of a good book. I am eagerly waiting for your new one. Your are now a favorite of mine and a keeper.
Rating: Summary: poor story, too much violence Review: If I want mystery I take Christie, murder and terror Cornwell, Nobels Hemingway, humor Wodehouse, romance White lies/ Mackenzies mountain. Which one doesn't fit in? This book! It was such a mixup of everything. Bad language, murder, violence, pedofiles, child abuse. Where was the rapist? The story line was poor, h/h just jumped to the same bed, nothing sizzling. And how much did it cost. Wait for a paperback or borrow it from somewhere.
Rating: Summary: very entertaining! Review: I thought Mr perfect was a great book and that the main character was a departure from other weak willed simpering women we see in most novels. jaine bright and her three friend work for a computer company and they are fed up with the men at work and in there lives. so they make a list of the perfect man as a joke . but thelist gets spread around and thats when the trouble starts. I like the character of jaine she has a potty mouth, shes brave and not afraid to stand up for her self and a great sense of humor. sam was just perfect for her . I enjoyed this book !
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: If I had not read any other Linda Howard books, this one would be my last. The romance is not real romantic, the thriller isn't real thrilling. Definately not one of my favorites.
Rating: Summary: Probably the worst book Ms. Howard has ever written Review: I have been disappointed with Ms. Howard's last five books--I bought this one hoping it would be better; it is not. Romance is something that is supposed to be beautiful and loving; not two people who just have some sort of animalistic attraction for each other and somehow think its love because the sex was "good." If this constituted love, then people wouldn't need anything else to keep their relationships together. Whenever I have read a romance, I have always skipped the sex scenes--they are not needed. Love is shown through sacrifice and care for one another. To plaster something so private and personal between two people is sad. Another reviewer said that Ms. Howard was probably writing for Gen X-ers. Well, I am a Gen-Xer and I found this sort of behavior shown in Mr. Perfect as revolting. It amazes me that people think there is some sort of freedom through being as disgusting and graphic as possible--I am sorry for those people, the love that I know is much deeper and more lasting than in these rolling-in-the-hay and making sure we say the f** word as much as possible stories. The plot was terrible, the charcters were so undeveloped that you couldn't care less about them. All the Queen's Men got bad reviews, but at least you cared about the characters and there was an actual story. I think this trend of Ms. Howard's (the darkly sensual one, as some reviewers put it) is a terrible disappointment and unworthy of what real romance is. Ms. Howard is officially off my reading list.
