Rating: Summary: A great treat Review: As a long-time fan of Ms. Howard's more suspense-related books, I found Mr. Perfect a delightful read. Some critics may argue that there was too little romance and too much story - but not this fan! A great balance, with enough personal stuff to make you care about the characters and want to spend time with them; enough of a real mystery/ suspense to keep the pages churning. And enough laughs to keep this fan looking for more!
Rating: Summary: Wow...couldn't put this one down! Review: I bought this book to occupy break time on my last mid-shift...and ended up forgoing sleep the following morning when I got home, 'cause I just couldn't quit reading! "The List" is just the sort of silliness I can see myself and a few buddies coming up with over a bottle of wine. The twists in the plot are interesting and unpredictable...and you can't help but feel an instant kinship with Jaine, the main character. This is a GREAT read...I am headed to the library and Amazon to see what else I can find by Ms. Howard!
Rating: Summary: Smart and Sassy! Review: This is a great book! Earthy, sexy, and fast reading. Jaine Bright and three of her co-worker women friends sit around a restaurant table and wonder what each thinks would be "Mr. Perfect". They make up a list which includes personal traits and also physical traits! This is a joking matter to them and becomes known as "The List". Although they had wanted to keep it private, the list is inadvertenly leaked and the four women are suddenly thrown into the public spotlight including tv appearances. However, there is one twisted mind that seethes at these women making up such a list. This mind believes they must pay for the disgusting things found on this list. The list then no longer is a joke, but a deadly game with a murderer on their track. Quick witted talk between Jaine and her hunky next- door -neighbor cop, Sam, is delightful. Of course, Sam becomes involved in the case and Jaine drools over the day when they can hop into bed together!. A must read for all Linda Howard fans.
Rating: Summary: What a woman wants... Review: Over dinner, at the end of a horrible day, Jaine Bright and her three friends: Marci, Luna, and T.J., decide to write a list designed to delineate what would make the perfect man. This list becomes the byproduct of pent-up frustrations and disappointment when it comes to the men who have been, and are, in their lives. It begins innocently enough in terms of the quality of the characteristics desired but as the ladies' enthusiasm grows so does the risque tone of the list and the conversation it perpetuates. Soon, the list spirals out of their control and becomes fodder for the media and subject to public scrutiny. For one colleague, it also hits a little too close to home and perpetuates old feelings of bitterness and inadequacy. Soon the four women find themselves the targets of a person who believes they "don't deserve to live."Mr. Perfect is a story that is intermittently both humorous and edgy. The suspense is razor-sharp and so is the witty dialogue that is exchanged between Jaine and her neighbor turned lover, Detective Sam Donovan. Jaine herself is a gutsy, take-action heroine who keeps Sam on his toes as she struggles to keep friends and family safe from the killer. Linda Howard has written a terrific romantic suspense story with an all too surprising ending. Even if you think you know the identity of the killer, the author surprises you somewhat with the motive which lies behind the killer's reasoning. Both Sam and Jaine are engaging characters that drive the story to a great end. Pick up this book and be engrossed by the friendship shared by these four ladies who experienced some of their greatest moments and paid a heavy price for a list that rang a little too true for everybody.
Rating: Summary: Where have you gone, Linda Howard? Review: I don't think Linda Howard has had a keeper since DREAM MAN. This novel, MR. PERFECT, is better than SON OF THE MORNING, NOW YOU SEE HER, and KILL AND TELL, but it definitely isn't worth the price of one movie ticket, much less three (roughly $25)! It was extremely easy to spot the killer. This wasn't simply a lucky guess. I had the killer pegged to a tee, second-guessing everything that made him tick. What made this so easy was the extensive development of the killer's public identity, an otherwise negligible secondary character. Two or three other possible suspects were mentioned, but no more than mentioned. There wasn't a credible motive among the red herrings. The only questions I had concerning the identity of the killer were questions of credibility. Is it likely that this person received a high school and college education despite a complete psychiatric breakdown during the formative years? Is it likely that a mere telephone call to the killer's psychiatrist to inform her of the killer's death would have yielded Sam everything he ever wanted to know about the killer's psychiatric background and the therapeutic treatment he received? (Come on! Sam should have at least had to present a death certificate and wait for it to be verified.) There were some genuinely entertaining moments in this novel, but not nearly enough exploration of the relationship between the hero and heroine. Everything was rushed, and the protagonists were kept apart for a good part of the book (such as when Sam takes off for an out-of-town business trip right after the first romantic encounter, with not even a fare-thee-well to Jaine). This novel was more of an exercise in female-bonding between the four friends, and not a romance between the hero and heroine, and definitely not a compelling "whodunnit." If you want a great romance and a compelling piece of suspense (albeit not a "whodunnit"), go check out DREAM MAN. In the meantime, if you must read MR. PERFECT, sign up on your local library's wait-list.
Rating: Summary: Want to laugh and enjoy yourself? Review: I've read most of Linda Howard's books, but I do not remember any that quite compare. This book still has me smiling. Has Linda always been this funny? This book was well written, has the suspense to keep it moving and has great characters. You just have to love Jaine and Sam! I still have to giggle over some of their scenes. As usual, Linda includes several explicit scenes between the main twosome, so beware if you don't like that.
Rating: Summary: Not perfect Review: I have enjoyed Linda Howard's previous books, but this one was not up to her usual standards. The plot involving this list becoming national news was ludicrous to begin with. The sexual relationship between the main characters was offensive and ridiculous. If the sexual encounters had been eliminated, there would hardly have been any pages in the book. I'm sorry I'm paid for a hardback book of such poor standards.
Rating: Summary: Delicious, funny and pulse-pounding suspense in one package! Review: While I've always been a fan of Linda Howard's thrilling books, Mr. Perfect is one of her best yet! Few authors can combine rib-cracking humor and exciting suspense in one romance. Thanks, Linda, for writing this highly entertaining, hilarious, and scary read all into one package! I loved it. Rating: Summary: A Hit Review: I have read all of Linda Howard's books. My all-time favorite was Mackenzie's Mountain which is almost an impossible act to follow. Mr. Perfect had some wonderful dialogue, great love scenes, and a fast pace. While I agree with some of your reviewers that the character's were underdeveloped (as was the relationship between the main characters) I certainly would purchase this book because it has so much to offer. It has humor, sadness, great love scenes and a decent plot. Granted the plot was somewhat predictable but give Linda a chance! This is not the pure romance of the Harlequin series but suspense/romance! And I disagree with several of your reviewers that the relationship was disgusting because of the graphic love scenes. It is a good book (not her best) but a good book worth a good read and worth the money.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Perfect Review: This is one of the most entertaining books I have read recently. I love the banter between Sam and Jaine - I was completely enchanted with them. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading and can stay up all night to read it from start to finish which is what I did. I simply couldn't put it down.
