Rating: Summary: Smutty!!! Review: I kept complaining that we weren't reading enough smut in book club, and the group chose this to appease me. Totally unrealistic and over the top. If you're looking for something to read in a couple of sessions at the pool or something to make a cross-country flight pass a little quicker--go for this. But if you're at all prudish (which I can, admittedly, be), beware of the blushing that a few of the scenes may cause.Good, fun, indulgent read.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing and silly Review: I rather enjoyed Linda Howard's "After the Night" so I decided to follow it up with "Mr. Perfect". As a romance it makes an okay beach novel, but the mystery/suspense aspect is laughable. After Jaine and her friends compile a list of attributes that would make the perfect man, someone tries to kill them off one by one. First of all, the idea that anyone would be interested in this list that someone else wrote, much less be so offended by it that they would be moved to kill, is ludicrous. Also, maybe I've read too many suspense novels but I figured out who the killer was way too early. Still, Jaine is an interesting character and she's got good chemistry with her next door neighbor, Sam. Read it for the romance but if you're a mystery fan (or even a romantic suspense fan) skip it.
Rating: Summary: CAN I PLEASE ORDER UP A NEIGHBOR LIKE THIS? Review: Linda Howard has outdone herself this time! You will not be disapointed with this one, I loved the humor in Mr. Perfect. Even though the story took a serious turn, the humor kept it going. If I were to describe the neighbor in this book one word comes to mind...YUMMY!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME -- ONE OF HER BEST YET Review: Wonderful -- I couldn't put it down. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a book so much. The interaction between Jaine and Sam is refreshingly, hilariously funny. Ms. Howard's character descriptions were so concise I could picture each of them perfectly and felt as if I knew them personally. The suspense was well balanced throughout the book. Linda Howard just keeps getting better and better.
Rating: Summary: My all time favorite Linda Howard Novel! Review: MR. PERFECT is not the hero of this riveting, explosive masterpiece. The title alludes to a list of assets that Jaine Bright and her 3 best friends have decided the perfect man must possess. Some of the contributions to the list are serious but some are just thrown in for fun and the result of a few drinks and the bawdy moment they're having. However, the list leaks out and instantly causes notoriety for the four fun-loving women involved. Some people take it with the light-hearted fun that it was intended for; others find it insulting and sexiest. So the four find themselves either being cheered or spurned because of the list. But, one person reacts with murderous rage and the plot is set as Jaine and her friends realize the innocent list they created has put their lives in danger. The nail-biting suspense is balanced out with the quick, off-beat humor of Jaine and the sexy presense of her next door neighbor, Detective Sam Donovan. With all the ingredients for good story telling that Linda Howard employs in MR. PERFECT, she comes up with the, uhhhhh......perfect story. This book should have come with a warning though: Once started, you may not be able to put it down until the last page.
Rating: Summary: HEY! IT IS LINDA HOWARD. Review: So, right up front you should know I love anything Linda Howard writes. Mr. Perfect is no exception. At the time of this review I think there were 176 reviews written. I'm wondering what I could say that someone else hasn't already said. More humor in this book than her previous works. Think Janet Evanovich. In fact, Ms. Howard's latest heroine reminds me a lot of JE's Stephanie Plum. High praise!! LH's hero is not quite as in your face macho as her previous heros but he is macho enough and a guy to die for (make that live for). LH, if you read this (Yeah, like that's gonna happen!), PLEASE write another western. Mr. Perfect - a keeper that I've added to my LH collection. I would recommend Anne Stuart to all LH fans.
Rating: Summary: Hardly Perfect! Review: There are so many things that were unappealing about this book. I agree with the reviewer who said that the sinister/comedy aspect was jarring. If done properly, this can work, but Ms. Howard failed to wed the two and the result was choppy. There would be a chapter on the very sick and scary bad guy, then suddenly the next chapter would be back to the (supposedly) funny stuff...and I really can't say I found this book to be humorous, at all. The main character was uninspiring (Jaine) and her romantic interest was a total cliche. I also found the premise weak, that this "List" would generate such intense media interest. Save your money -- this book is not worth the paper it's written on. Normally I like to pass the books I enjoy on to friends, but this one ended up in the trash can.
Rating: Summary: JANIE AND SAM, WHAT A COUPLE!!! Review: This book is good! I have read all of Linda Howards books and cannot remember any of them ever being this witty. Janie's sense of humor is a crack-up, and Sam is just as funny. They are such a cute couple.. The story itself was good, however I had the murderer figured out about one-third of the way through the book. That's okay, it did not take away from the fantastic way Linda Howard writes. I can't wait to read her new one coming in July called "Open Season."
Rating: Summary: A Maturing Linda Howard Review: I have read Linda Howard for a few years as she develops her "romantic intrigue" series, and find this entry to be her strongest to date. Some of her earlier efforts (Dream Man, Now You See Her) were formulaic at best, displaying an awkward transition from intelligent romance writer to serious mystery writer. Mr. Perfect is a huge step in the right direction. LH presents a heroine, Jaine Bright, who is a smart successful career woman with three busted engagements under her garter. Her neighbor Sam is a cop - despite Jaine's initial misgivings that he's a drunk - who helps Jaine when a deranged killer decides that Jaine is taking up too much space on this planet. The plot of this story is definitely the most involved and mature of Ms. Howard's mystery/romance career, and I say bravo. The personal development, though, is certainly a reminder of her romance writer roots. Sam decides that Jaine is his soulmate/wife-to-be after one week of, well, "dating" to be generous. And although LH is certainly trying to give her heroine modern sensibilities, and succeeding much more than earlier efforts, the whiff of "small, virginal heroine needs big alpha male to resuce her" still abounds. Not that this is a bad thing, or even untrue, just that it is much more obvious in an LH book than in other "pure" mystery writers. Ms. Howard seems to be emulating Janet Evanovich, again not a bad thing, and is succeeding more and more. This book has some good humorous moments, and some of the one-liners that Jaine comes up with are memorable. Bottom line: I'm glad I bought this book, but also glad that I waited for the paperback version.
Rating: Summary: Mr. Perfect is Simply Wonderful! Review: Warm! Funny! Enjoyable -- in spite of the senseless and horrific murders. This is one of Linda Howard's best. Good storyline, feisty heroine, credible hero, and a hilarious ending. You go, girl!
