Rating: Summary: A hysterical read Review: I loved this book! It was a perfect summer read and I just zipped through it. I was in stitches throughout most of the book yet there is a thriller aspect included. If you want to escape your worries and housecleaning for awhile then I definitely recommend this book.
Rating: Summary: She's back! Review: Linda Howard's back to her old self! Yea! She's finally written a new AND good book again. I haven't liked her new stuff or 80's re-hashes since Dream Man (1995?).The main character in this book is a strong, fiesty woman who gives as good as she gets, and the leading man is fantasy-tough, but just enough of a jerk to be believable w/o making you wonder what she sees in him. It's more like Howard lets you see a real person, not a fairytale glossed over prince. The storyline is covered elsewhere, so I'll just say that she makes the characters believable and you start to care about them. Also, I thought I had the ending figured out, but it twisted just a bit, which was nice.
Rating: Summary: Did not want the book to end! Review: Mr. Perfect was the best book I have read in a long time. I seriously did not want it to end. This book made me laugh out loud, cry and scared. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance story that is not set back in the way back when days. This is a book I will read over and over again.
Rating: Summary: Suspence, Romance, Suspence, & a little Romance Review: This book was great!! I can't wait to read more of Linda Howard's books. I instantly fell in love with Jaine and Sam. I loved that they didn't jump in the sack immediately (like most books do) and they had a fun relationship every woman would envy. The suspence was EXCELLENT with a neat little "twist" to it. It's definately worth checking out.
Rating: Summary: Sloppy, Silly, Stereotypical Review: I can't believe the rave reviews that this horrible book has received. I used to be a big fan of Linda Howard, and this is way below her usual excellence. The story premise is totally unrealistic: a group of women who work together make up a silly list of "the perfect lover" which somehow becomes a national craze, and another person who is offended by this harmless list to the point of murdering the women who created it. The story is set in Detroit, at a company that provides computer technology to the automotive industry (the author just begs you to recognize GM and EDS in this mess). Now, I've worked at EDS, and I'm thoroughly offended by the author's insipid stereotyping of informational technology professionals, whom she calls "geeks," "nerds," and "loonies." This in no way characterizes the intelligent people who work at EDS. There is no mention of the cultural diversity of this workforce, as the author stereotypes all the info tech professionals as white males. The other characters in the book are similarly one-dimensional and stereotypical, and the author is so unfamiliar with the Motor City she can't make up her mind if this fictional high tech company is located in Warren, in Troy or in Southfield. My advice to people: if you're a fan of Linda Howard's, DON'T READ THIS BOOK OR YOU'LL BE DISAPPOINTED! If you've never read anything by Linda Howard, READ ONE OF HER OTHER BOOKS.
Rating: Summary: Great Entertainment Review: This book is one of my current favorites-I just loved the heroine and her friends-they reminded me so much of my friends. The relationship between Jaine and Sam was so fun and hilarious-I really enjoyed all the characters. Plus, I couldn't figure out the murderer until the end, which is always great, and the suspense was wonderful...it really kept me guessing. I loved the conversations the girls had, and all the reactions from their infamous "List". One of the most enjoyable books I've read recently. I highly reccomend it, as it combines my two favorite genres: romance and mystery.
Rating: Summary: REALLY, REALLY GOOD BOOD Review: In MR. PERFECT, Linda Howard mixes humor, romance, insanity and crime to create an unusual style, but a "perfect" book. Jaine Bright has just bought her first house and it appears that her next door neighbor is a noisy, inconsiderate slob. Jaine and her three friends gather over dinner and complain of that neighbor and their problems with men, in general. Just for fun, they develop a list of qualities that their Mr. Perfect should have. Somehow the list becomes public, then it snowballs. The real problem starts when, somewhere out there, one person thinks the list was created just for him, just to make him look bad. And he'll do anything, even kill, to make those responsible pay. MR. PERFECT is unusual, a wonderful book, a real page-turner, and a must read!
Rating: Summary: Definitly not her best Review: I've read a lot of Linda Howard's work and this is not her best. It was not as deep and detailed as her past works. Normally her books are hot and steamy. This one didn't quite make it. However, I still love her books and I hope this will be my only disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Warning: don't read if you have had stiches... Review: ...becasue you will laugh hard enough to rip them out. This book is laugh out loud fall over on the floor and roll around funny. If you are female, and you don't mind a bit of (...ahem) bawdy humor, you won't be able to stop laughing. The conversations between Jaine and her friends, Sam, and the signs in the elevator, all of it is hilarious. The characters are refreshing and very real, almost as if they were people you know (in fact, some of them might be people I know, hmmm.) Unfortunately, that is pretty much all there is to recommend the book. The mystery was predictable, every part of it, even down to who would die. The psychotic killer was remarkably easy to recognize, and though there was a bit of a twist, I had seen it by the middle of the book. The romance was hot, very hot, but that was all there was to that, too. Though you liked both of the characters a lot, you never really got the feeling that they knew each other. They went from flirtation to affair to marriage in about five pages, all in the middle of the book, and though they seemed to like each other well enough, there wasn't much to tell me that this would last. Anyway, read it if you want a really great, female laugh. Pick it up with a pint of Ben and Jerry's (preferably something sinful) and sit down to read. You will feel like this is a night out with the girls, where the jokes are dirty, and the calories don't count.
Rating: Summary: Another book I would rate 10 stars if I could Review: This author is an amazing talent! This is one of those you hate to put down books and it saved me from a terrible reading slump. I Thank you Ms. Howard for doing that for me. You will love the characters, the sex, the suspense!
