Summary: Lucas Davenport Rules!
Review: This is my favorite of all the "Prey" books although Rules of Prey is really close. John Sandford spoils you for reading anything else. Wish he could write faster. Lucas Davenport is a great person to live through vicariously!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A solid thriller in the series
Review: This is my third book in the Prey series and I haven't been reading in order. Winter Prey opens with a grisly murder in the snowy Wisconsin woods. Davenport is called in to help because the local police know he lives nearby and they don't have experience in this kind of thing.

The killer is the "Iceman" who is involved in child porn. There is one scene with the "yellow-haired girl" that goes into the evil of the child porn then this subject isn't really discussed much anymore. The Iceman is obviously evil because of the murders he committs, but more could have been written about the evil grip he had over the kids who seemed to worship him.

This novel was a traditional police mystery with Davenport tracking down clues before finally finding out who the killer is. This novel introduces Weather, Lucas's love interest for many more novels.

Winter Prey is another exciting entry in the series. Sandford is a good author who follows a similar formula for all his novels yet they still seem fresh and exciting.

Summary: Must read
Review: This is the one book that Mr. (Camp) Sandford has written that you actually feel the cold. Any time an author can make you experience the climate he/she is doing their best. Enjoyed the story and all about this book, his "prey series" is a sure bet for all murder mystery readers.

Summary: Another winner for John Sanford
Review: This is the story where Lucas finally meets Weather for the first time. After a long hard case in NY Lucas has decided to take some R&R in his cabin in upper WI, and then doesn't return for months.... While his gaming company is doing well he has become a recluse and lost/lonely person.

The Iceman is what will bring Lucas back to life. A brutal killing happens during a snowstorm (3 dead and a horrific fire also)not far from Lucas's cabin. Lucas is called in to see if he will help to determine the killer. Intrigued from the start he becomes part of the team instantally. Directing how the investigation is going...

See if you can figure out who the killer is before Lucas does...

Summary: Finally, I found out how Davenport met Weather!
Review: This thriller is as tight and spell-binding as Sandford's others in the Prey series. I read the books out of order and really enjoyed finding out how Davenport and Weather came together.

Summary: The Best Sandford Novel Ever
Review: This was the greatest effort, in my opinion, offered by Sandford's portrayal of tough cop, Lucas Davenport. The setting is in Wisconsin during the winter with temperatures at sub-zero levels. He, along with the Sherrif's department in the county, are on the prowl for a cold-blooded killer nicknamed, "The Iceman."

What separated this book from the others was that the ending was very much a surprise. Unlike other Davenport novels, we usually know the killer in the beginning but in this one, we can only guess until he is revealed at the very end. A great nail-biting thriller.

Summary: Ice, Ice.....2much snow
Review: What I like most about the prey series is the evolution of Lucas Davenport. It is best to read the Prey Series in order, to get an appreciation of Davenport and other characters in his life.

Although not as savvy or smart as some of Davenport's other prey, the Iceman was quite elusive and evil. This is a good read, and I was sad that it was over so fast.

Summary: Winter Prey is bone-chilling suspense
Review: Winter Prey is suspenseful and tense. The setting is rural Wisconsin at 20° below. The hero is the likable Lucas Davenport, who gets pulled into solving the murders of the LaCourt family by the small-time county sheriff, an inexperienced, near retirement, sometimes pathetic, but mostly sympathetic character. While the dialog was sometimes less than impressive, the story was action-packed. A real plus--there was never a moment before revealing the murderer that I even thought I knew who it was. The Iceman is a real surprise, not only because of the twists in the story, but also because you're not given enough information to suspect him. I plan to read more John Sandford after this, mostly for the character Lucas Davenport. I only hope they don't have such corny, awkwardly written love affairs as the one in this book with medical examiner Weather Karkinnen.
