Rating: Summary: Total Nonsense Review: This can't be the same David Baldacci who wrote Absolute Power. Total Control is totally ridiculous ... a silly story line, cardboard characters, trite dialogue and phrases. I wasn't expecting one of the Great Books of the Western World, but even so, it was a disappointment. Now I'm afraid to read The Winner, which I bought before I read this stinker.
Rating: Summary: Grip-you-by-the-seat-of-your-pants and let's go!!!!! Review: It was a fast-paced, grip-you-by-the-seat-of-your-pants and let's go book. I thoroughly enjoyed the suspense and the ending couldn't have been more perfect.
Rating: Summary: YAWN Review: It was hard to keep reading a book that allows for e-mail to flash on a screen and then disappear. Techno-jumble aside, there wasn't one character that was believable. I knew I was in trouble when the hero was a wizard of technology and had a genius for singlehandedly organizing a warehousefull of financial data without assistance. I had to force myself to the end.
Rating: Summary: MORE INDEPTH THAN ABSOLUTE POWER. Review: SIDNEY WAS AN EXCELLENT CHARACTER, ALBEIT SOMEWHAT SENSATIONAL. JASON WAS A MASTER EMBEZZLER AND APPARENTLY A MASTER OF SUBTERFUGE AS WELL. SOME OF THE LEGAL ASPECTS OF TRITON WERE A LITTLE FAR FETCHED AS WERE THE F.B.I. ANTICS. BALDUCCI DID HIS HOMEWORK WELL AND/OR HAS BEEN AROUND FINANCIAL CIRCLES ENOUGH TO KNOW ABOUT MANIPULATIONS OF AND/OR MONEY TRANSFERS ON A GLOBAL SCALE. AGAIN ----- BETTER THAN SOME OF LUDLUM'S. HOPE "THE WINNER" WILL BE EVEN BETTER.
Rating: Summary: Could hardly wait until the end Review: I thought I would never get to the end! I loved Absolute Power and couldn't wait to read this book! I'm familiar with computer technology and didn't even find that very interesting...I will try one more time with "The Winner" - then on to other authors!
Rating: Summary: BETTER THAN ABSOLUTE POWER Review: THIS BOOK WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN HIS FIRST. I DID FIND MYSELF GETTING LOST SOMETIME IN THE TECHNO STUFF BUT TO ME IT WAS CLASSIC. THE ENDING WILL SURPRISE YOU. I MUST SAY IT TAKES PAST THE FIRST 200 PAGES TO BE HOOKED. AFTER THAT JUST HOLD ON
Rating: Summary: A great read for those who enjoy suspense thrillers. Review: As an avid reader of all genre, "Total Control" is a real "page-turner." It's been a long time since I've lost a night's sleep because I couldn't put a book down. I went right to my PC and ordered "The Winner." Baldacci's jacket photo assures me he is very young and will be writing for a long time to come. He can send me drafts of his works-in-progress anytime. I'll buy his books sight unseen.
Rating: Summary: lighten up people Review: i was looking for a mindless thriller to read on my vacation and was not dissapointed. no it's not a piece of "literature" but i didn't think about my stressed out life for a minute. total control was a total escape.
Rating: Summary: Total Control by David Baldacci is a top rate book!!! Review: When I picked up Total Control, I had no idea that I would be cutting down on my sleep time. But I have found it nearly impossible to go to bed at night without reading for at least one hour. It is a book that captures your intrest from the start and doesn't let go until the very last page. It is exciting, but it isn't your run-of-the-mill action book. It has romance, a believable story line, and characters that you feel like you have known all your life. The ability that Davie Baldacci has to tell a story, and make you feel like you are there, is unbelievable. I would reccommend this book to anyone who remotely likes to read!
Rating: Summary: Way too long and the style? Review: My problem with the book was not so much the story line, but the writing style. Mr. Baldacci's writes in the omnipresent. Such a style leaves the reader with no ability to take part in the story. Instead, of telling us (unaware to Jason the man next to him had a gun. Although, it would not have suprised Jason.) If it would not have surprised him then let him see it. Let us as the reader experience that from a character that you want us to connect to. Give the reader some credit and let us use our imagination. Instead of having you tell us that there was someone watching Sidney from across the street, make her nervous, give her a sixth sense that she felt like someone was looking over her shoulder. That gives us (the reader) suspense and it is a much better book to read than being told ever minute detail. Granting the story line had flaws, but it is fiction. I can live with that. Just cut out the omni and keep your perspectives in line and let the reader be involved in the story.
