Summary: Boot Music ?
Review: Harry Bosch is back at work in the LAPD homicide squad after a period of suspension. (I wish I had read these books in the right order). The question is whether he can buckle down and play by the rules whilst cracking the mystery behind a hit-man style murder. A body is found in the boot (ooops, make that trunk) of a white Rolls Royce (well, it is a British car) overlooking the Hollywood Bowl.

After identifying the corpse, the plot moves between the plush Hollywood movie environment and the bright lights of Las Vegas and its strip joints. The pace is quick and the reader would have to be very sharp to work out "whodunit? There are more twists and turns than a game of snakes and ladders. Bosch meets a former girlfriend (as I said, it helps to read these books in the right order) who becomes a central character in the story. So now Bosch has got his girl, but the hard part which is to get his man, still lies ahead. Who is the man and what is the motive? Red herrings at every corner. As in a good spy story, not everyone is who he or she seems to be. "Goodies" or "Baddies" - be careful Harry. Not only is Bosch up against an organised crime syndicate, he has to stay one step ahead of the FBI who don't want him on the case and have their own diversionary tactics.

This is a good novel which should whet your appetite for further crime thrillers from the pen of Michael Connelly.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not his best
Review: All of Connelly's books including 'Trunk Music' are excellent reads, I just rate this one at the bottom. It seemed to lack the drama of Bosch's other stories.

I recommend 'The Last Coyote' or 'Blood Work'

Summary: Bosch has steel balls!
Review: Harry Bosch has got to be one of my favourite characters! He is just a brilliant detective who says & does anything just to crack the case! Of course, he does get into trouble by his superiors but he always finds ways to get what he wants!

Connelly has written yet another totally engaging and brilliant thriller that introduces the reader, once again, to Harry Bosch. This time Bosch and his crew and investigating the murder of a well-known Hollywood player. He is found in the back of his Rolls , murdered by what looks to be a Mafia hit - or is it?

This brilliant novel never loses its way and twists and turns along the way, bringing the reader with it. Connelly is a superb writer that introduces novel ideas into all of his books & writes with passion and develops brilliant characters in all of his works.

I never tire of reading anything by Connelly - truly one of the best crime novelists around!

Summary: Another Good Connelly Novel!
Review: This being my second Michael Connelly was another winner. I liked "The Poet" bet though. I enjoyed Harry Bosch, the main detective, in this novel, along with other novels. Harry is a very strong and likable character. This book goes into the lives of the Las Vegas Mafia/ Mob group, which links them to the latest murder. I am looking forward to reading Blood Works.

Summary: Great Character, over engineered story
Review: Anyone who has read Harry Bosch novels will have that character familiarity which gives an anticipation to new installments. I approached this book with relish but was strangely indifferent in the end.

Here Bosch is investigating a murder where a body is found in a mafia style hit in a car trunk. This leads him to Vegas, an old flame and to various off-the-books investigative techniques for which the character is known & loved.

However, Connelly looses his way a bit in this book. The plot twists and turns constantly to a contrived and heavy handed crescendo. In the end, I felt that the actual murder & characters involved presented a far more interesting plot that that pursued for much of the novel.

Angel's FLight is for my money a better read.

Summary: Harry's Back and Still on Top
Review: While I agree with Chad's review about liking the early Bosch books better - Trunk Music was still a great read.

Reading the Connelly's Bosch books feels like a visit with an old and dear friend. The writing is still strong as are the characters and the plot.

A good addition to the Bosch series.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good...but The Last Coyote was better
Review: I liked Trunk Music, but I think this is the weakest entry into the series, so far. I haven't read Angel's Flight, yet. The Last Coyote was wonderful, and I was sorry to see it end. Trunk Music didn't seem to carry the momentum created by the previous books. Good...but not his best. The Last Coyote and The Concrete Blonde would top the list.

Summary: Connelly is OK, but this shows evolved skill.
Review: Connelly was never much besides fast pacing and plots. This outing has more dialogue, more characterizations (something Connelly never really did before)and a lot more of that peripheral vision that shows the politics and complexities of policing organizations. Since this is NOT a serial killer saga, we get to see a lot more of Harry Bosch and the way he operates. I'm a real tough critic and Connelly has finally won me over with this one.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Another good Read by Connelly
Review: I have only recently discovered Michael Connelly and am working my way thought his books. This one was a delight. Well paced, lots of clues dropped here and there and then picked up later. A real page turner. Can't wait to begin the next one.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I can't wait to read my next Michael Connelly novel .
Review: This is a book I enjoyed thoroughly. Harry seemed very real to me and the story was intriguing. I'm looking forward to his other novels. I disagree with the reader who thought the plot was cliched and derivative.
