Summary: Not the series' best book, but...
Review: ...still well worth getting. Bekker's not my favourite (if you could use such a word for such an evil character) villan in the Prey books.

I love this series, Davenport's a great character and the fact that it's a series of books really draws you into the characters as the series unfolds. Don't get this if you haven't read the first two books, I think you really miss out by not getting the character development. (I read this one first and regret it now.)

Summary: On the edge of your seat SUSPENSE!! Excellent!!
Review: A great book, for any thrill seeker! It was wonderful. Sandford kept me holding on until the very shocking end

Summary: When it comes to action, John Sandford is tops!!!
Review: Eyes of Prey and Sandford's other "Prey" books are absolutely tops when it comes to action-packed detective fiction. The action is not just shoot-outs and car chases, it goes much deeper as the author probes into the minds and motives of his characters. Sandford's books are free of the background "padding" that fills so many other detective novels. Every page is interesting and literally drags you along through the story. I often rue the cost of paperback books but never Sandford's--you get your full moneys worth and more.

Summary: A Good Read
Review: Eyes of Prey is a highly suspenseful novel about a doctor who wh plays a cat and mouse game with Minneapolis, P.D., namely Davenport, and takes part in several gruesome murders with a hideous partner in crime. Sandford delivers a good effort with this one but it's not quite as suspenseful as his debut, Rules of Prey. Overall, it's still a better than average suspense novel and very gripping and tense dialogue.

Summary: Sandford is great. He keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Review: Eyes of Prey is the first John Sanford book I have read. Now I can't resist reading his work. Sanford is a sound writer and he does a good job of showing details. In addition to being very interesting, this book is easy to read and is even easier to get into. Lucas Davenport is an awesome character. He is everything a hero could want to be. He is slick, sneaky, and gets the job done. Michael Bekker is a very fitting person for the job of a serial killer. Until the end of the book I thought he might even get away with the killings. Druze fits in almost as well as Bekker in that his facial features allow him to kill someone without being bothered. Bekker's beauty and Druze's childhood make them excessively dangerous and are definately two people that I would not want to meet up with. Druze and Bekker are a dynamic team and if it were not for Bekker's stupidity, they may have actually gotten away with the murders. Great book Mr. Sandford! I hope you can continue your success!

Summary: A solid thriller in the series
Review: Eyes of Prey is the third in the Lucas Davenport series by John Sandford. In this edition, Lucas is still torn up by the ending of Shadow Prey which featured an attack in his home against himself, his lover and his child. He takes it out on a young thug by beating him senseless. Internal Affairs begins to investigate and Lucas is on a short leash as he begins to investigate the murder of Stephanie Becker.

As it is with many Prey books, we know who the killer is. Except in this case, there are two killers. Two evil men decided to try and idea they gleaned from a movie where they each take turns killing each other's problem person. Carlo Druze kills Becker's wife and Becker kills Druze's boss. There are problems however when their is a witness to Becker's wife's murder, an unknown lover.

Meanwhile, there are more killings. Becker is a pathologist at the university hospital and is constantly living in a drug induced stupor or euphoria. Druze is a scarred, damaged man easily pliable by Becker. The strength in Eyes of Prey lie in the tight police work and the characterization of the bad guys and of Lucas's decent into depression. The ending is also surprising, yet doesn't really give any clues into the forth book in the series (which retains some characters from this book).

As usual in the series, there is a lot of cussing and sleeping around. But Standford has crafted another great thriller that will keep me reading the entire series.

Summary: There is no better then Sandford.
Review: Eyes of Prey was the first Prey book I read. I was hooked. I have read all of Sanfords books except Silent Prey, which I haven't been able to find yet. Being a ex Cop I think Davenport is the greatest. His books about Kidd & LuEllen are also great. He the only writer that when I start a book I don't want to put it down. How about another new book John!

Summary: The Wonderful Villain
Review: I enjoyed Eyes of Prey mainly because of the wonderful villain. Sanford has invented an amazing character in Dr. Bekker. The other characters pale by comparison, and I only wish that the author had delved deeper into Bekker's motivations and background. I also read Silent Prey, in which the story of Bekker is continued; still not enough Bekker! If you are tired of one-dimensional "bad guys," these two books will be a treat.

Summary: My Favorite of the Series
Review: I had never read any of the Prey books before (I regret not starting at the beginning), until I saw the book on my father in-law's desk. I was visiting for 2 weeks, so I was confident I'd have time to finish it. HA! What a joke, I finished the book in a day, and promptly read the first two before I left. Eyes Of Prey is, in my opinion, the best of the Prey books. The first sentence of the book still rings in my head..."Drooze was a stone cold killer" From then one...HANG ON. Lucas D is the best and Bekker?? He's one SiCk dude.

Summary: Best of the "Prey" series by far (2/28/02)
Review: I have no idea how I missed this Sandford fiction in his "Prey" series, but I did. It's definitely one of the first with Lucas Davenport. It's an absolute jewel right down to the last sentence. I actually enjoyed it more than the newer "Prey" books.
John Sanford poured so much detail in to his characters. The killers (notice the plural) in this novel keep Davenport reeling with questions to the end, which is also a terrific surprise.
If you're a new reader of John Sandford, go back and start with this book before reading the newer "Prey" books. It will help you to understand Lucas Davenport better as well as his police pals.
