Rating: Summary: Not that exciting..... Review: This is my second Cornwell book, the plotline is great! But there were times that I got a little bored, and I think that's why I took so long to read it. I didn't think it was all that much thrilling. Another letdown was that the author didn't explain fully, how Dr. Scarpetta found some things out. There were some blank spots, that I just couldn't figure out. But overall it was not such a bad book.
Rating: Summary: woo....that's a cool book Review: i read this book a year ago when i was...15 (yes i'm 16 now). i found it very interesting....enough for me to keep me reading it. i read it in 2 days, it was an exhilarating and embracing book. FYI if you're gonna buy it, just buy the paperback...that's the one i read and it was just as good as the hardcover. i suppose. on the other hand, if you don't like weird medical stuff, then...this book might not be for you. however, i've always been interested in anatomy and forensics (call me weird but i like to read about dead people). it deals with the type of forensic tools, and medical information. hopefully that won't fly over your head. :-)
Rating: Summary: NOT SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND IT!!! Review: I usually like Patricia Cornwell's books. I like part of this one. I am just not smart enough to understand a lot of what was written about the sickness. I did like the name deadoc. I also enjoyed the language used on Tangier Island. As always Marino is one of my favorites. Dr.Scarpetta is in Ireland, teaching and investigating at the same time. While she is there a body is found in VA. that is like the Ireland caes. She discovers the body in Va. had a rare virus but no one knows for sure what. Dr. Scarpatta and Wingo, her assistant are exposed. Then a body is found on Tangier Island and it has the same virus. The terms and words used are above me. The killer uses e-mail to talk to Scarpetta and uses the name deadoc. The killer is finally caught and it is a very big surprise as to who it is. In the last few pages Scarpetta may finally get Mark out of her system. It is a tough read, maybe just for me. Cornwell has to be very smart to wrote a book like this. Expect to spent a lot of time if you read it. It will take it to try to understand what is going on.
Rating: Summary: audio version was great Review: I have to disagree with the review criticizing Kate Reading's reading in the audio version. I'll listened to all the Kay Scarpetta books on tape ,and Miss Reading is superb. Earlier books were read by Donada Peters, who does the Agatha Raisin books marvelously, but she did not capture Scarpetta's personality. Listen to this!
Rating: Summary: A Very Fun Read Review: Once again Patricia Cornwell produces a very fine book. The plot of Unnatural Exposure is tight and well thought out. The reader gets a good feel for the characters and understands them. I don't agree that this book is a let down. Others is this series may be better, but Unnatural Exposure did not turn me off from Ms. Cornwell. This is a very good installment to a wonderful mystery series. I would suggest that if you were just starting this series, go back to the beginning. This series read out of order is no fun at all. Ms. Cornwell does a good job of telling the reader what they need to know from the other books. But you won't fully understand the characters and why they are like they are. The Kay Scarpetta series is like a soap opera, you can figure out what is going on, but don't fully understand why. These characters have been through a lot together, they understand each other, that is why they take so much abuse from each other. The reader has to understand this too, or they won't be able to understand the abuse the characters can dish out to each other. I'm not going to bore you with a rehash of the plot. There was one point of the plot that bothered me; Ms. Cornwell let Dr. Scarpetta get sloppy in her morgue. I don't understand why this had to happen, but you know we are all human, even fiction characters. This is still a great read and a very fun series. So get started, on the first one.
Rating: Summary: A just-satisfying read Review: In this installment of the Kay Scarpetta series, the author again demonstrates her excellent story-telling skills. She is superb at plotting these gothic, yet not too gory, thrillers.Just a couple of problems, though, that led to this book being only just satisfying. First, after weaving an intricate plot over several hundred pages, the revelation of the bad guy is quite rushed and an anti-climax - it was all over in just paragraphs and I'm not completely persuaded of this person's motivations. Secondly, the author's characterisations are going off beam somewhat. The verbal exchanges of the characters, and Scarpetta's own narration, are at times superficial, predictable and quite sophomoric (to use a word that crops up regularly in this series). As a result I would have been happier to give this book three and a half stars, if that were available. Much as I find Scarpetta an iconic figure in the genre, this really relies on earlier installments in the series. The stories would need to tighten up in the areas mentioned above before I'd again rank the series with the best in the genre.
Rating: Summary: Save Your Money and Your Time Review: I've been a Cornwell fan for a long time, but lately I think she's on vacation from writing good books. If you're interested only in reading about grisly body dismemberment and disgusting diseases, then this one's for you. There was so little story to go along with the sensationalism that you'd be better off reading anything but this book! This is going to be my last Cornwell book!
Rating: Summary: Unnatural exposure.. not the best but keeping it alive Review: This is a well paced continuation of the Scarpetta legacy. It is not my favorite in the series, but it is another page turner for Cornwell. Captivating with vivid imagery and solid character backgrounds. In my opinion, another hit for Cornwell.
Rating: Summary: Never again Review: I am a big Cornwell fan; however, this is the first time I purchased an audio version of her book to enjoy on a long car ride. The book is ruined by this particular reader, Kate Reading. I cannot finish listening to it so I plan on getting a printed version to finish it. I am not against audio versions and have enjoyed many other authors in the past. The publisher/author need to do a better job finding an appropriate reader to interpret the text.
Rating: Summary: Don't Let the Cover Fool You! Review: Don't let the image of a saw blade fool you. This book is not primarily about dismemberment, altough it does play into what's really going on. Our Hero, Dr. Kay Scarpetta is called to a landfill where a torseau has been found. There is concern that this body could be related to Crimes that took place in Dublin as well as some in the US. However, Dr. Kay is not convinced due to too many differences forensically speaking. Once again the book covers in great detail such things as autopsies, and crime scene study. We also encounter all of our favorites from the Body Farm. (Lucy, Wesley, and Marino). It becomes more evident through the story that the welts/pustules found on the torseau may have a lot more to do with the deceased's death than first meets the eye. The killer in this book also makes personal contact with Dr. Kay via email, even sending pictures, which leads to a helpful virtual reality experiment with Lucy. There is the scare of an epidemic and the disease possibly hitting close to home. Dr. Kay also get's to resolve some unfinished business in London and with Benton. This was my second Patricia Cornwell book and I was not disappointed!
