Summary: LCD's (What a trip)
Review: The best part of the whole entire book is on page 149, when Kay and her niece are using LCD, a liquid crystal display, it's a video display - you know you put goggles on and gloves etc. Did you see Lawnmower Man? It's where you can actually go inside an area (this time the killer's room where the body parts are displayed) and snoop around and try to get clues. This area was provided by the killer when "deadoc" emailed her pictures of what he/she had done. When Kay does finally catch up to the killer surprise - she instantly recognizes where she once was. The ending was a good one and for once I didn't have a clue as to who the killer would be. Usually I do. I enjoyed the book but written so damn easy and Pat's got everything down pat. She is a genius when it comes to the medical jargon and the virus stuff. I just remember how great her first novels were. Its like reading Stephen King - we know his work so well (do we?) that we know how she is going to write the tale. There are many clues as to who the killer finally is. Some one working with rabbit hairs, expert in using a medical cutting tool, someone with a knowledge of viral diseases. Man - I was surprised she took so long solving the case. (Just kidding). I didn't have a clue. But you know it is always someone in the story line. Jan Beggs, Mobile, A

Summary: Better than Hornet's Nest
Review: Scarpetta's back and that is very good news. This is a much better book than Hornet's Nest, but then again, what book wasn't, however, this is far from the normal Kay Scarpetta adventure. The plot line is good, but you get the feeling all through the book that the author was rushed into telling it. This is absolutely true at the end where everything is explained in a brief, somewhat unbelievable burst. There are many questions unanswered, even when Cornwell does answer them. The ending to Scarpetta's lingering love for her dead boyfriend is outlandish and much too pat. And the identity of the killer!!!!, Patricia Cornwell should definitely get the dreaded Red Herring award for this one. No clues, and no satisfactory reason why or how it was solved. I'm glad Cornwell has returned to familiar ground, but this one was very unsatisfying. Maybe it's just the lingering malaise from Hornet's Nest, we can only pray. Steve Isenhowe

Summary: Unnatural Exposure not as good as earlier books
Review: Patricia Cornwell's newest Kay Scarpetta novel, Unnatural Exposure, is almost as disappointing as Hornet's Nest. While the main story line of a disturbed person using biological agents as a weapon is interesting, the book ends in a rush without a satisfying conclusion. The writer's attempts to flesh out the characters' personalities fall flat, swinging wildly from important details of the character's motivation to an intrusion to the storyline. Some of the details seem to me to be very contrived and more than a little implausible, especially Dr. Scarpetta's ability to mobilize the Army and the CDC on a moment's notice. I bought this book in hardcover, as I have all her recent books, but I'll be waiting for the paperback from now on

Summary: PC is stunning once again
Review: In the latest story of Dr. Kay Scarpetta she fights the seen and unseen killers in Virginia. Once again Kay becomes the target of yet another killer on the loose in Virginia. With the rturn to the Dr. Scarpetta PC returns to brilliance. A must read for all even if you've never read PC before. With a likeable cast of characters that includes her lover Benton Wesley and her neice. Dr. Scarpetta fights the demons that haunt Virginia with grace under pressure. PC is a masterful writer that should recieve the highest acclaim for this lastest masterpiece

Summary: Another great Scarpetta novel
Review: Why are we able to buy it Downunder before it is released in US of A? The true and loyal Scarpetta fans "up there" will find it well worth the wait

Summary: Typically suspenseful Scarpetta novel.
Review: Another typically engrossing classic Scarpetta, but one criticism is that it came to an end all too quickly. I felt that Cornwell had been limited to the number of words allowed in the novel, and found that she had reached the limit and had to reveal all in a page or two. It was as if the killer had appeared "out of the blue", that is hadn't been introduced in order that we may add "the killer" to a list of suspects. That will not stop me buying the next Scarpetta novel. I've bought them all. I can't wait till they come out as movies. Well Patricia

Summary: Scarpetta - good new and bad news
Review: After the total disaster that was Hornet's Nest...jeez, what a stinker, Cornwell has returned to Kay Scarpetta. The forensics stuff is still good, even if she exceeded the amount of information I required a few times. But the writing is still not up to the standard set in her earlier works. What really bugged me the most was that by the time I learned who the killer was (and I didn't have a clue), I said to myself, "That name's vaguely familiar." I flipped back to the first third of the book and found that the meany was mentioned for about a page-and-a-half or so and never referred to again!! Maybe I just received a faulty reader's copy, but just in case I didn't, I recommend the library or waiting for the paperback. C'mon Patricia...maybe your personal trials and tribulations are messing with your concentration, but please don't expect your readers to help pay attorney's fees by purchasing inferior writing

Summary: Scarpetta is back and Cornwell brilliantly showcases her
Review: Kay Scarpetta may be working on what is the most dangerous case in her illustrious career. It is a situation that, if not contained, could contaminate the entire world. It begins innocently enough with Kay giving lectures in Ireland. She also links the brutal unsolved murdersof five Irishmen over a decade ago to four deaths in Virginia in the past two years. Though there appears to have been a dormant period, all nine deaths share the trademark methodical butchering of the same serial killer. .....Kay flies home, hoping to catch the murderer before he strikes again. That wish is immediately dashed when the tenth victim is found in a garbage dump. However, the autopsy reveals that there are too many inconsistencies between this case and the nine previous victims. Kay is convinced that a copycat killer has appeared on the scene. When the copycat murderer contacts Kay via the Internet with a gruesome display, this case seems more than just a typical (strange as that seems) serial killer. This is a n individual who has invented a new plague similar to small pox that could cause an endemic that the world has not seen in several centuries. Dr. Scarpetta and cohorts must work around the clock to uncover the identity of the killer before he sets in motion his doomsday machine. .....Patricia Cornwell is at the peak of her vast abilities as she provides her audience with an unparalleled roller coaster ride that keeps the adrenaline freely flowing. UNNATURAL EXPOSURE is Ms. Cornwell's best work to date as it delivers an action-packed story line and fully developed characters who readers will emotionally connect to, especially Kay. Understanding Kay's demons provides a softening of the edges on this hard boiled detective, making her even more human. This is the perfect novel, guaranteed to keep readers thoroughly entertained and sure to provide a well deserved Ms. Cornwell the number one spot on all the bestseller lists. .....Harriet Klausner
