Summary: Like so many other authors..
Review: I just hate it when authors feel they need to produce books..and I do mean produce...not write..Just like Grisham, King, and many others..I would rather wait a year and read a good story rather than have them come off the brain dead assembly line. I do or should I say did like the character of Kay Scarpetta. The whole bit with the e-mail is a bit silly..for such an intelligent character this is one mistake I can't seem to forgive.

Summary: At long last - Dr. Scarpetta is back!
Review: I have long come to the conclusion that each reader has a different favorite of Ms. Cornwell's work. I like this one, you like that one. Regardless of which one you favor, you may be sure her books will entertain. Ms. Cornwell keeps my nerves on edge and frequently has me searching the house with my flashlight for every little sound I hear as I read. Unfortunatly, I generally read her books in one sitting. I can never put them down and this means a long wait until the next one. Unnatural Exposure was another excellent example of why she is a best selling author. Could I write like her - I would. Please keep up the good work Ms. Corwell ! I highly recommend this and all her others to anyone who hasn't read any of her books yet! loretta

Summary: Exellent(as always!) ! ! ! !
Review: Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the Chief Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Virginia takes on cases where bodies are turning up dimembered and carrying an unidentifiable disease and has to stop it from spreading. That little part I just wrote is very blunt. There is alot more to the book.I am 13 and a huge fan of Patricia Cornwell and her Dr. Kay Scarpetta M.E. novels. I liked this bookand all of the previous books in the Scarpetta series because I feel as if I know Kay and the other characters. For those of you that haven't read any of her work,I encourage for you to do so.Her books take you into the facinating world of forensic science to solve cases. I reccomend this book, and all of her other books.

Summary: Didn't grab me by the throat...
Review: I have to agree with the reviewer from Minneapolis on 06 Jan -- I've read all of Cornwell's books, and her last few have been real disappointments. Perhaps if she herself hadn't established such a high level of (potential) excellence, she wouldn't be subject to such severe criticism now. She appears to be doing what I consider -- from my own personal perspective -- to be a fatal mistake: she's inserting too much politically-correct crap (pardon the expression, but it fits). I'm tired of the feminist slant, I'm tired of the lesbian slant, I'm tired of the social commentary. Those topics have their time and place -- a mystery/suspense novel isn't one of them, and I don't care about her personal views. Just give me a good plot and sympathetic characters. (And yes, I'm female.) I couldn't have cared less about the characters in this latest excursion, and Lucy -- about whom I was initially ambivalent -- is really getting on my nerves. Lately, even her love affair is a touch lacklustre. Come on Kay -- we really do love you, and you really can do better... For $20+, we deserve it... P.S. All that having been said, you're STILL my favorite author, bar none, so don't be discouraged -- just go back to what worked.

Summary: Much better than Cause of Death
Review: I have read everyone of the Scarpetta series and I thought that the ending to this one was the best. I had no idea that it was going to be someone who we knew. When she walked into that house I had hairs on my neck stand up also. I am looking forward to reading Point of Origin. Hurry up and publish it already!

Summary: Back on form
Review: I started this book with some trepidation, as i thought that Cause of Death ( her last Scarpetta Story) was dreadful. I really enjoyed the first 4 books but felt things went downhill from The Body Farm onwards. Well, i'm relieved ! Cornwell is back on form. Yes the ending was a bit weak, we had no chance to suspect the culprit, but the plot carried me along and i enjoyed meeting the familiar characters again. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Summary: Recovery, a little, after CAUSE OF DEATH
Review: After the reading of CAUSE OF DEATH, with that silly end, I was worried with the plot of Cornwell's new book.

After all the plot of this one is better, so it seems CAUSE OF DEATH was just a low time and now Cornwell is just taking off again. I hope total recovery in her next book.

Summary: Very Good
Review: This was the first Patricia Cornwell book I have read, and I was immediately hooked. After having gone back and read some of the others, my comments are only that, yes, the ending is rushed, and that PC should develop the relationship between Kay and Benton. I don't think that the relationship should ever be a smooth one, but I like that Kay has a love interest AND that there are portions in her life that are out of her control. Also, don't make Kaye so whiny and give Wesley a real personality! I think that Marino should get more air time and Lucy could get a little less. PC could also make the novel a little longer to develop charachters if she needs to--this one was a really fast read.

Summary: Can I go any lower than 1?
Review: A smallpox-like virus threatens Dr. Kay? Kill her off, I say. What a completely unsympathetic character. In fact, now that I think about it, there isn't a single sympathetic character in the batch. Kay is always prickly, even to those she supposedly loves. And, I'm sorry, I work in a predominantly male-dominated industry, and I certainly don't see the recriminations Kay faces every single day. Of course, I also have a nasty tendancy to be occasionally PLEASANT. While I'm on the topic of prickly, Lucy. GET OVER IT. I hope the FBI isn't truly made up of idiots of the caliber of Lucy. She may be a programming genius, but she's a rotten field agent. Benton is almost likeable, but he loses points for being in love with Kay. What a lousy way to resolve the Mark issue. Seriously, Kay pined over him for how many books? And to get over him after hearing one simple statement? Puh-lease. Patricia Cornwell, go back to your day job. Or, at least, if you're going to write novels, get a ghost writer.

Summary: A very definite female perspective.
Review: Not bad, however the ending could have been more revealing. Left me feeling as if it was quickly ended to meet a deadline. Too much like the silence of the lambs. On a more recent note it was better than the five minute dialogue with the "bagged" scientist on Alien 4.
