Rating: Summary: Plenty of Laughs! Review: This book may have just caught me right as really wasn't expecting much out of a book about Bass fishing. But it is a pretty good mystery with lots of laughs along the way. Also lots of information on the cut throat world of tournment bass fishing that was more interesting than I expected. If you like screwball southern mysteries this muight be for you! You also might check out books By Randy Wayne White.
Rating: Summary: Mindblowingly average Review: This book offers little to distinguish itself. Its humor is rarely funny beyond a mere chuckle, its quirckiness seems contrived, its main character, Decker, is without flair. The plot is interesting, but is worne out by the end of the novel. What distinguishes this novel at first glance fades away half-way through, and you're left with a startlingly average mystery.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Wacky! Review: This is also my favorite of the Hiaasen books, with Native Tongue and Tourist Season following. Hiaasen has a fabulous sense of chaos and absurdity. My husband and I laugh aloud at the bizarre events and characters that people his world. But there's enough underlying grit to make it all weirdly real, and definitely the underlying humanity to make it moving.
Rating: Summary: Most Excellent! Review: This is one of his earlier books and my personal favorite (so far). Pokes fun at bass fishermen, rednecks and Southerner's in general, and is very well written. I met him at a book fair, and he is a real person and real nice to fans.
Rating: Summary: The funniest book I've ever read! Review: This is the best book Carl Hiaasen has written to date (and I've read them all)! This book is about pro bass tournaments, which is definitely not an interest of mine, but the plot nonetheless drags you in fast. Rather sane at first, by half way through the book you learn the plot and the characters are absolutely wacko and hilarious. I was sitting in court one day no less, reading this book (killing time), and laughed so hard I nearly got thrown in jail!
Rating: Summary: The very best Hiaasen has to offer! Review: This novel defines what Hiaasen is all about. It captures a side of reality that few folks think about...politics involved with bass fishing. I am an avid fisherman and loved the book but you don't have to enjoy fishing to enjoy this book. Littered with Hiaasen's consistent humor and keeps you turning page after page. Classic.
Rating: Summary: A story about BASS Fishing - are you kidding me????? Review: This story grabbed me right away. It's the first Haissen book I've read. It was hilarious, descriptive, clever & witty. I actually laughed out loud. Every character is described so well including the BASS. Don't pass up this good yarn.

Rating: Summary: Well paced comedy Review: This was the first Hiassen book I had read, and I loved it. I have read all his other books since then and this is still my favorite!
Rating: Summary: The best Fishing Thriller in years! The only one too! Review: Well, I bought this book expecting a very good comedy book. Well, after reading it all in a day, I can say that in that way I was disappointed. I did not laugh as much as I did in a, shall we say, a Terry Pratchett novel. But I did chuckle at some of the moments (specially at the end. The people at the gym must think I'm insane)The thing is, it's that it seems that Hiaasen decided to divide the book in two. The serious parts and the funny parts. The serious parts are great, and the funny parts are great as well, but when he tries to mix both of them, the quality drops. If he decided to do the important parts in a serious way, then he should've dropped the entirelly serious parts altogether, because I ended up not caring about the scenes that are funny-serious. And sometimes they WERE important for the plot (which is surprisingly good, for a fishing thriller :) You should definitely buy this book. The plot is a lot better than I thought, but it's not as funny as I thought it would be(with the surprising number of positive reviews and all)... A fair exchange in my opinion.
