Rating: Summary: Another soapbox lecture from Grisham Review: Just as he did in "The Chamber", Grisham gives us a lecture rather than an entertaining novel. Come on John, you've made more money than God with entertaining books. Get on a talk show if you feel the need for some moralizing. I've read all of his books and they all rate a 9 or 10 with the exceptions of his two diatribes - "The Chamber" and "The Street Lawyer". Grisham's publisher should take a clue from the computer industry - they advertise "Intel Inside'. These Grisham novels should say "Lecture Inside".
Rating: Summary: Grisham comes out as a beam of light for the homeless Review: Sadly few people will read this book. by then they may have heard that it is too preachy. that all it does is focus on the homeless. Thank god it does. I actually am afraid that this work will not be turned into a film and if it is it will lose most of its chracter and influence in the translation. I'm sorry there are those that wish to forget there are homeless people in this nation. I'm glad that Mr Grisham is trying hard to keep us from forgetting. One of his best. At least this time the hero doesn't wind up on a beach with loads of cash sipping daquiris as some of his readers seem to prefer.
Rating: Summary: A disapointment, same old same old. Review: This book is not worth the paper its written on. Grisham is falling into the same trap as Robin Cook once did. He writes the same story over and over in different settings. This worked for a while, but is getting old rapidly. The theme of this book leaves a lot to be desired, a bleeding heart liberal wants to save the homeless, who are too lazy to get a job and provide for themselves. The only new element in this book was that the lawyer did not quit in the end. he might as well have....
Rating: Summary: have not read it but can't wait! Review: i have not read it yet because i was trying to find a bargain price (which i now have) however, as i reviewed other's comments and complaints about a story of HOMELESS PEOPLE I COULD ONLY WONDER IF THEY HAD EVER BEEN HOMELESS, HELPED THE HOMELESS COMPLAINED TO GOVT THAT IN AMERICA THIS IS INSANE TO HAVE PEOPLE LIVING IN THE STREETS. SO, I ENCOURAGE ALL THOSE WHO HAD THE PLEASURE OF READING THIS BOOK IN THE COMFORT OF THEIR HOMES TO TAKE A MOMENT THIS WEEK AND DO SOMETHING PROACTIVE AND SUPPORTIVE TO HELP ALLEVIATE THIS PROBLEM IN THEIR COMMUNITY, CITY , STATE AND FOR ALL OF AMERICA
Rating: Summary: It's called character . . . Review: It'd be nice if John Grisham got in touch with what a lot of us like to call "character development." I'm impressed and pleased that Grisham decided to use some of his clout to shine a light on a serious and often-ignored problem, but the writing is weak, the characters are generic, and the tome - though I agree with the intent of its message - is far too preachy to be persuasive.
Rating: Summary: Fiction like this helps us to really understand Review: The Street Lawyer had a special meaning to me. After spending ten years in the world of accounting and real estate, I went to work for two years at St. Anthony Foundation, a center for the homeless in San Francisco's tenderloin area. This was quite a learning experience and not just about how homeless people cope with a frequently uncaring bureaucracy and limited opportunities from the community at large, but more about the way life appears depending on your vantage point. I was constantly amazed at how well Grisham has captured the experience of the homeless and those who work to push for a better life for people struggling with the numerous difficulties related to homelessness. . He also captured well the denial system that works in the society at large. This is a great book about change and potential and I would recommend it to anyone. It challenges us all to take some risks with our lives if we are to truly grow as versus stagnating in what we perceive to be comfortable. At the end of the book, we find that the longing to care and help can be found in surprising places and realize that we should be careful before we define the villains. This is a challenge to all of us to care more about each other and to give more in our communities. Read and be inspired !
Rating: Summary: A sure hit as a Movie! Review: I am a real Grisham fan. I am also an English teacher and always encourage my students to read. This would make a great read for high school juniors and seniors.
Rating: Summary: WORST Grisham to Date !!! Review: Having read all of John Grisham's novels, I have to say this was by far the worst of his books to date. I can take a little "preaching" as long as it is woven into an interesting story. I'll be checking my next Grisham book out of the local library!
Rating: Summary: More of a draft than a novel Review: Not too bad for a first draft. When is the book coming out?
Rating: Summary: My All-time fave author does it again, what a page turner! Review: I really liked this book. It never failed to let me feel as I were in inside the book, experiencing and watching everything unfold as I read the sentences.
His approach to past secrets and present revealences
amazes me.
