Summary: A conscious raising book.
Review: John Grisham's latest book, Street Lawyer, is a conscious raising book that should be required reading of every person lucky enough to have a home and collect a pay check. Grisham's fluent language makes this a very easy read. His vivid description of the homeless and their plight cause one to pause and think, "Could I do more?" If Grisham wrote this as a novel to complement his already fine list of books, he performed a great disservice to himself. One cannot read this book and think it is only fiction. To do so would render that individual a soulless creature. Grisham has stirred a pot filled with those crimes of the great society. He has called upon us, who do not hunger, to fill our plates with a portion of humility. This is the most powerful non-fiction work this voracious reader has ever read. Thank you, Mr. Grisham, for poignantly awakening a part of me that needs to do more for others.

Summary: disappointed
Review: I expected more from the author. It seemed as if he had to fill a book quota and just wrote this to do that. I think it could have been interesting if he had drawn in the murdered congressman, to the law firm or the real estate firm... some sort of surprise.

Summary: It made me think!
Review: It's not the "Partner", but I hope that it makes you think about your fellow man. I have always said that we make our own destiny, but as I see more of the world I continue to open my eyes to the sadness we call humanity. The constant efforts of the few to take from those, least able to defend their possessions. I work very hard for the dollars I earn, but I always try to find time to help those that don't have what I have. I read in "The Street Lawyer" a message, one that some feel Grisham is being preachy, others say right-on, while I say, if it bothers you, maybe you feel some guilt. While I would like all those who profit from tales of Humanity, to share thier new found wealth with the cause, I don't know Grisham well enough to say he will.

A side bar, after finishing this book I listened to a local Chicago artist sing a song he had written about a true event in his life. The song title is "Snow Man" by Wes Davis. This song is so moving that I hope the movie moguls use it as the theme song when they take this book to the screen. Wes's lyics for the Snow Man ring true with Michael Brocks' experiences, the snow, the helplessness, the reason for being, and simply the art of caring.

It made me think!
Thank you John

PS, John, if you read your reviews, I want you to know that I called you a bastard for the ending to Partners! I couldn't believe you left the kid without the money or the girl.

Summary: Grisham Does It Once Again!
Review: John Grisham gives his fans yet another reason to love his work. Although this isn't his very best book, it is still a very worthwhile read. Grisham has become my favorite author, and I am always checking the book shelves for a new Grisham novel. Hurry up with the next one, Mr. Grisham!

Summary: Not one of his best! In fact not even close.
Review: I have read all of his books and in my opinion A Time To Kill was the best. The Chamber was by far his worst. This one isn't a whole lot better.I'm very aware of the homeless situation and the subject matter was not the problem. This book never got off the ground.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Preachy, boring story about a very serious problem
Review: Maybe it's because I live in DC and have helped in homeless shelters or read about our city's problems every day in the Post, but I found this book boring and mundane. There was little character development and intrigue. A slow read, easy to put down, not spell-binding like some others. I loved The Firm with its complex plot and multiple characters. This was a big disappointment.

Summary: Good but far from great
Review: I enjoyed reading the book, but the story was very thin. The story lacked the usual Gisham character/plot depth that makes his books great. Worth reading but not worth buying in hardcover.

Summary: Would have made a better Reader's Digest article
Review: I've read all of Grisham's book and this one was, by far, the worst. All of the homeless characters were not to be believed....all sweet, wholesome and law abiding, except for illegally renting a squatter's room in an old warehouse. And, what an unbelievably nice neighborhood for the legal clinic where our hero can park his Lexus with impunity! GEt real! As for excitement and suspense, the only danger here for our hero was the possible loss of his license and a jail term, none of the terror in previous books where his life was at stake. Time to take a break, John.

Summary: not vintage GRISHAM
Review: definetly not his best. and almost his worse. the beggining probably ranked up with a time to kill in terms of excitement but then it drags. i was expecting a trial of some sort which really was dissapointing. then he preaches us on the poor. you should learn from day one that it's okay to have plenty of money as long as you've earned it. it's nice to give to charity but you can't always. i found the book to be hardly belivable. i don't know of one person on this earth who would give up an ambitious future as Michael Brock did. and once you find out what the whole point of the book is. it's almost over. Sadly only a real true GRISHAM fan can half appreciate this book.
