Summary: It Takes Time...
Review: In order to review this book, some might say I need to actually finish the book first. However, I have been shocked as I sit here and read insult after insult to Mr Grisham. The irony of the bashing is that many find the subject matter of The Street Lawyer boring, nothing new, etc.,. When did social problems take a back burner to many of the usual plots of mystery/thrillers? The Street Lawyer has been, so far, just as interesting as any other Grisham novel. AND what I have enjoyed most is the fact that it does not resemble any of his other stories. He has taken a step which many authors are scared to do because of their fear of falling off of that limb they reach out upon. So, for those of you who feel compelled to bash John Grisham, you must only be looking for a repetitive story, just with different dates, times and places.

Summary: Is this Part 1 of 2?
Review: I give credit to Grisham for writing in a way that is not slow and boring. That said, I ended this book feeling like it needed another 300 pages. Is there a Street Lawyer II coming out soon? Maybe part of a series? Grisham is great at starting novels, The Client is a wonderful example, but he tends to have the problem of writing about issues and entertaining at the same time. My last critism is Grisham's seeming inability to write interesting court dialogue. He had this same problem in The Rainmaker. Court dramas are interesting only if the reader believes that the jury could go either way.

Summary: THE COMMENTS WERE BAD, BUT I LIKED IT
Review: I have read all of John Grisham books, and this the last one, for now. It was very good. He approached a subject, that he never before, thought about in his books. But I don't understand why people, say that this book, is bad. They give 2s, 3s, and 4s. I don't get it. What is the problem? The book has it all, except for the courtroom drama. It has tension, excitement, and an ending, which he worked on. ( not like the Partner). I recommend this book, for everyone, that hasn't read it yet. And for people that gave bad critics, I say only three words. YOU ARE ILLITERATE.

Summary: John's Gone Hollywood!
Review: The Street Lawyer is a disappointing LITTLE book that reads, to me, more like a 90-minute, cookie-cutter movie script and not the full-length, page-turning novel I'd expect from someone capable of A Time to Kill or The Partner. The opinions expressed by the author appeared long ago in The Communist Manifesto, there's no character development, and the loose ends left in end are too numerous to mention.

If you can't wait for a copy at the library, at least wait for the paperback.

Summary: The read the first 15-pages, and I was hooked!
Review: I have to say I enjoyed reading the Street Lawyer a great deal. Street Lawyer the first novel I have read by Grisham. I liked the Street Lawyer so much, I went out and bought "The Partner". I will definitely keep an out for any future John Grisham books!

Summary: Most of us are a payday away from the streets, but fight it.
Review: This Grisham book started out with the excitement and drama of his his others but when the man holding the lawyers hostage died so did the story. I am sorry that the streets are full of the homeless. I am especially sorry for the children who did nothing to deserve this type of life. Life is tough enough without being dealt this type of hand. But how many of us are just a pay check away from the streets. More of American then one might think but we keep fighting. We keep working and struggling and striving. I see the Homeless everyday and was shocked and dismayed by their lives. I even tried helping, at first, until I was informed that they didn't need my #!*^ help! They had the life they wanted with no one telling them what to do or obligations to society or anyone! I read this book for the pleasure of reading not to be given a sermon of what I see everyday! I now must wonder how much of the proceeds from this book Mr. Grisham will be give to the homeless? It now a case of practice what you preach.

Summary: Grisham misses his mark with this one.
Review: John Gisham is one of my favorite writers until he takes off on a social agenda. As with the Chamber, he misses his mark with The Street Lawyer. To try to inspire via a work of fiction I am afraid Mr. Grisham hasn't the gift for that. If John Grisham hates Republicans then just campaign against them at election time not between the pages of a book that is a work of fiction. In doing it this way he has lost his punch. Personal note to Mr. Grisham, stick to what you know best and leave the social stuff to others. If the homeless mean so much to you, donate all the proceeds from this book and others to them, and leave my tax dollars alone. It is all I can do to afford your books and it really upsets me that you are not smart enough to be a Republican. Winston Churchill said something to the effect of, When you are twenty you should be a liberal, it shows you have a heart, but by the time you are fourty you should be a conservative because it shows you have a brain. GROW UP JOHN...Just because people have money does not mean they hate the homeless or that they are trying to hurt the homeless. We all do what we can and those that want to do more or think more should be done should JUST DO IT!!!!!!! Ruth Wilson Summerville SC 29483 rutheb@mindspring.com

Summary: Just great...
Review: John Grisham did it again. His newest book not only made me think, but also much more aware of the problem of homelessness. Grisham robbed my sleep...again...

Summary: Grisham has lost the ability to make his books interesting.
Review: I am one of the millions Grisham fan, and I have read all her books. Unfortunately his last books have become more and more boring, especially this one. The book should have been an educational text book that talks about the plight of the homeless, rather an novel. I guess it would be to John Grisham's credit that he talk about the homeless, and that he was able to make people aware about the plight of the homeless in the US, but then he could still have done that and think of a wonderful, exciting, full of suspense plot. People who are new to his books may still like this one, but for us who have read his books from A Time To Kill to The Firm to The Pelican Brief to The Client will definitley not enjoy this one anymore. I notice that since he got famous with his first few books, he started losing the ability to charm his readers. Is it because he started releasing books every year that he doesn't have much time to think about the plot anymore. Well, I guess it would still be better to publish a book every 2 or 3 years with a wonderful story and get more fans and readers, than to publish a book every year, with a lousy story, and lose all your readers. I hope that the next Grisham book will definitely be a lot better. And by the way his books are getting thinner.

Summary: Though not his best, definitely thought provoking
Review: Though not his best, I don't think "Street Lawyer" warranted the agressive and nasty reviews it received. Before the public should discount reading "Street Lawyer" because of reviewers comments, they might "review" where each reviewer is coming from and their agenda. It's worth reading and thought provoking.
