Rating: Summary: Did John Grisham really write this? Review: There was great potential here. I have read all the Grisham books, and when I finished, and yes, I finished, I slammed the book closed and thought...a ghost writer wrote this for Grisham. It was mundane, predictable and unrealistic as far as young yuppie lawyer suddenly pulling up stakes and being an activist. Maybe as an activist albeit in other areas, I found that hard to swallow. Well, I will wait for the next one and see if there is a pattern. Marge Hanselman
Rating: Summary: What I thought of The Street Lawyer Review: I do quite like Mr. Grisham`s books, but, because I'm from the UK, his latest novel isn`t out yet. It`s bothering me because I really want to read it. I don`t know quite why it hasn`t come out yet; maybe the Boat that`s meant to be shipping them over here has got sunk on the way, just like the one in Titanic. However, when it does come out, I'm sure to be one of the first people to read it. After all, whilst I thought The Pelican Brief was an excpetionally weak story, I really liked such novels as The Chamber and A Time to Kill. I have also seen all the film adaptations of Mr. Grisham`s novels, and liked some of those. Anyway, as I previously stated, I simply cannot wait to read Mr. Grisham`s latest effort. Living in England can be so good sometimes, but, when it comes to being a John Grisham fan, it can often mean major disadvantages. I mean, if it came out in February in America, I think a month is plenty of time for it to have come out here. I don`t know. It really upsets me. Anyway, I shall try to put aside such things that bother me so, and just look forward to purchasing the book on its arrival in England. That`s if it comes out. After all, it was on the internet that I learnt he'd even knocked up a new book. I have seen, read or heard nothing else in the past few months that even began to suggest that Grisham had picked up his pen again. The internet can be so amazing sometimes. Its ace when it comes to bringing you all the latest news and reviews, especially as far as Mr. Grisham is concerned.
I don`t know if Mr. Grisham ever reads these reviews, but, if he`s reading his now, I would like to give him my full support regaridng his anti Natural Born Killers campaign. That film was dire, and I`m glad he tried to get it banned. It`s one of the worst films I`ve ever seen; even the film adaptation of The Pelican Brief was better, and that`s saying something.
Anyway, I would also like to say what a brilliant man I think Mr. Grisham is. He must be a multi millionaire by now too. And all from writing cracking novels. Amazing. He is a true genius. If he ever comes over to England, I would love to take him out and buy him a Jack Daniels and coke. Oh yeah, oh yeah.
See yuh all.
Rating: Summary: Not the Best..but it was still good!! Review: I'm a little troubled after reading all of these negative reviews. Most of them refer to "The Street Lawyer" as nothing more than a sermon, or light read at best. I thoroghly enjoyed Grisham's latest novel. I thought the characters were well developed, and the story was believable. Granted, it wasn't "The Firm", or "A Time To Kill", but does that make it a bad book?? I really hope this book is made into a movie, as some of the others have. The people that call this book a sermon must be feeling a little guilty. We are all a paycheck away from the streets, no matter how big the check. I think Grisham did a fine job of making his readers more aware of the homeless problem in this country. We are a very resoursefull and wealthy country, by comparison, and it makes little sense to have people without a bed or a roof over their heads. Shame on those for saying they don't want to be preached at. Open your eyes, people. Mr. Grisham is just pointing out the obvious. This isn't only about the homeless, it's about American politics, Republican and Democrats alike. Homlessness has been right under their nose for years, yet they choose to ignore it. Good job, Mr. Grisham.
Rating: Summary: the real victim is the reader Review: This book is absolutley terrible! I waited for almost a year for this! For shame Mr. Grisham. Of all the topics that you could of chose, you chose io that doesn't really have any bit of substance. I find it plausible, at best to digest such work from a great author like yourself. Please take you time in the future, maybe two years between books and come up with a great story like the Firm or the Partner. Your fans expect more than what has come of the latest headline grabber news story.
Rating: Summary: Excellent story...possibly the best Grisham book yet. Review: The story flows quickly, without time being wasted on meaningless dialogue and boring background information. Michael Brock is an exceptional character, I felt as if I knew him and his position, he fits the book perfectly. This book made me think, I wanted to continue on, I could not put it down. Two thumbs up, from a lawyer-to-be.
Rating: Summary: I wanted to read more! Review: I have enjoyed all of Grisham's books. "A time to Kill", is still my favorite. I will think about the homeless in a different light, hence-forth. And, once again, money should not be put in front of values. Thanks Mr. Grisham, "Keep'em coming".
Rating: Summary: FOR THE LOVE OF AN AUTHOR Review: I have read all of John Grisham's books and although they all don't hold my attention equally, I can say, all his books can hold their 'own'...as STREET LAWYER does....an age old truth is that the poor will always be with us...the fact that a 'rich' person actually came to a screeching halt and decided money isn't what life is all about is what captivated me in this book; will he persue his new convictions or will he go back to his pursuit of money? My favorite author can still write! This book will be a gauge as to whether you still have any sensitivity left. I wished that it was 100 or so pages longer. :-)
Rating: Summary: Not worth reading Review: For some unknown reason Mr. Grisham paints a lawyer who helps the homeless as a saint. There are so many real saints in this country who give of themselves over and over again to help the homeless, the hungry, etc. and they make far less than $30,000 a year. And they aren't ashamed, nor do they think they are "holier than thou", like the "Street Lawyer". This book angered me and as several other readers have noted, I certainly hope Mr. Grisham gives all of the proceeds of this book to homeless organizations throughout the country. If he doesn't, he is a hypocrite. This book was very unrealistic in parts and overall it felt like Mr. Grisham dictated the entire book in one sitting to his overworked secretary. One last comment, my fiance is a lawyer and was not surprised that Mr. Grisham is focusing on his career as a writer because the references to legal issues were often inaccurate.
Rating: Summary: NOT UP TO GRISHAM'S STANDARD Review: This is a very shallow story that plays on a major real tragic problem. Grisham's book reads like a movie script. The characters have very little definition. The one good thing about the book is that it doesnt take long to read it :-D I don't imagine it took long to write either!!
Rating: Summary: Save Your Money Review: Having read all of Grisham's books, I'd rate this as the poorest.
