Rating: Summary: Tiresome leftist propoganda Review: The Street Lawyer is Grisham's worst book. It appears he wrote it as a way of relieving his 'guilt' for being a successful wealthy writer. As usual, the Republicans (Reagan and 'Newt') are blamed for all of the ills of society and anyone with money obtained it by taking advantage of the poor and downtrodden. Don't waste your time with this tiresome book.
Rating: Summary: Something to think about.. Review: The book comes out a little bit flat. What we are used usually from Grisham is nothing but excellency. It is just very unlikely, that somebody would change his life so dramatically. what is interesting, that the book makes you think. I think that was the authors main goal. I read the book in 20 minutes and I basically enjoyed it. It is easy to read and to understand. For somebody like me who reads for entertainment, Grisham is absolutely great. You may not change your life after this book but you may change your opinions...
Rating: Summary: I loved it Review: one of your best Grisham, I have read some of your books, thr runaway jury, and the partner which I didnt like at all. But this one The Street Lawyer I feel is one of his best because it does send amessage into a novel. Which he has has done in one other novel which deal with insurance co. and the client dying. but this deals with the homeless and I felt finally someone is speaking out to them, and telling the public that they are out there to not always turn a blind eye. thanks john grisham i loved it.
Rating: Summary: A must-read and an eye-opener Review: I read this book in about 2 days. It takes some ingenuity to come up with a new twist for each novel, and he certainly came up with a good one in "The Street Lawyer." It took some real intestinal fortitude to dive into the realm of the homeless--an all too real problem in this country. I especially appreciated the ending; this showed that at least some of the bigger law firms have a heart, even though it took the entire novel to show it. I think that a movie based on this book would be a must-see for anyone not familiar with the problems that homeless people face. Even though Grisham will make a lot of money on this book/movie, I think he would have done it even if he never saw a dime. Maybe that's stretching a little bit, but he seemed to put a lot of heart into this book.
Rating: Summary: An epiphany in a greed-driven corporate lawyer's life Review: This Grisham is different from the previous novels, in that this time he is making a moral statement about lawyers and what they should do according to the ABA Code about pro bono work. He is right, and he has made a difference in my thinking about my legal work. In that sense, this is a book for lawyer, about lawyers in a professional parable format, and might not be considered his best reading for the public in general. However I applaud him for his commitment, because I think it extends beyond the writing and into his personal life. I hope so, as I would hate to be the only one who got "the call" out of his book.
Rating: Summary: DISAPPOINTED Review: After reading all of Grisham's books, this was a disappointment. There was sooo much more he could have done with the story to make it more thrilling. I found the book interesting on the homeless issue but, compared to the rest of Grisham's books, a big disappointment.
Rating: Summary: Grisham-Lite Review: Grisham seemed to be more interested in writing a good treatise on the homeless than a good novel. While the story moves along at a fast pace, he barely attempts to go below the surface in developing the plot and characters. There are no surprises, but it does hold your interest.
Rating: Summary: Great Story! Review: John Grisham covers an issue that few people want to admit exists! This was a very thought provoking story. I could not put this one down until I finished....and then when I did, the reality of it can not be forgotten.
Rating: Summary: Good story Review: I just finished reading this thrilling book in 2 days. I was too captivated to put down the book. I enjoyed the angle of this story because it was one not taken by another author before....that I have read and surely not Grisham. John Grisham wrote about a real problem in the United States and one that everyone should realize and care about.
Rating: Summary: not his best, comments of cassette version Review: a cassette can hold 90 minutes of audio. Each cassette in this book only went for 50 minutes. Thereby using 7 more cassettes than was necessary to inflate the price.
