Summary: Run, don't walk out of the bookstore!!!
Review: Grisham seems to be more interested in concepts than good stories. His writing has gradually deteriorated since "the Firm." Even the concept of this book is lame: big city lawyer chucks in all away to help the homeless. Did Grisham write this because he feels guilty making big bucks from movie deals?

Summary: A half-hour sitcom vs mini-series
Review: Unfortunately, John Grisham has undoubtedly been led down the path to commercialism. His first few books were very good. This one lacked character development, it was like he had a predetermined page count to fill while his agent and publisher were in the next room with a stop watch. This book was like watching a half hour sitcom vs the mini series I was hoping for. Thumbs down

Summary: A real disappointment
Review: Compared with his other books, which I have all read, this one was a real letdown. I never got excited about it. In fact, the only new thing in this book was that it was written in the first person. Did John Grisham do this to give it a "new" twist? Other than that, it was just same old, same old. The idea that a lawyer would leave a high-paying job for a legal clinic is absurd. There are other ways, in which one can help more efficiently. I also found the part amusing, where Michael asks "what would you do if you had to work for $30,000?" and the other character replies "I'd kill myself" (or something in that meaning). There are plenty of people out there who work for less than $30K and I didn't like the insinuation. All in all, it left me with too much "time to kill" and I wish Grisham would "partner" up with his publisher to do a real quality novel next.

Summary: Michael Brock experiences epiphany!
Review: Before writing this, I read most of the other customer reviews. I am somewhat surprised at the wide range of opinions on Grisham's latest novel. I admit that The Street Lawyer isn't quite as good as A Time to Kill (my personal favorite), but one must acknowledge that The Street Lawyer is a completely different type of story. The humility of the main character is refreshing; the change and growth of Michael Brock is poignant. It's obvious he experienced a profound epiphany during/after the hostage situation in the beginning of the novel, and I admired him for his wanting to make a difference not only in his life but also in the lives of others. Honestly, after reading this, I'm ashamed of myself for not doing more to help the less fortunate members of our society, but I'm now inspired to find a way to make a difference. Thanks for another great book, Mr. Grisham.

Summary: HELP...
Review: Another "compelling social drama of our time". This book is both predictable and pretentious. I couldn't wait for it to be over. It sure seems like Grisham has lost his edge in telling a good story. This book just whipped me...

Summary: Good but missing the courtroom drama
Review: I enjoyed this one better than The Partner, which seemed to be written as a script for a movie. I didn't like it as much as some of his earlier work, like the Rainmaker. I kept expecting a big courtroom scene (I felt the book led me in that direction) and 2/3rd of the way thru, realized there wouldn't be one. Grisham still writes better than most, but I wish he would get back to the drama and thrills of his earlier work. Snappy courtroom drama. Plot twists. Not write a script or wrap it up so tidily. Granted, this was better than The Partner in the script aspect. My two cents... Will still definitely buy his books...

Summary: Worst book he ever wrote, very disappointed
Review: After the Chamber I thought it could not get any worse....I was wrong! I do not understand why someone with so much talent for good stories and real plots have to try for a social stand. THAT IS NOT WHY WE BUY YOUR BOOKS JOHN.

I have enjoyed and bought every book written by Grisham but think that in the future I may wait for the paperback and read a few reviews first.

I was very disappointed and quit reading the book (first time ever!) after about 2/3rds of the way through it. It did not even interest me enough to finish the story.

Summary: One of Grishams best, (from Australia)
Review: Undoubtably one of Grishams best and interesting novels to date.

We have seen many novels by Grisham have basically the same storyline and plot, but 'The Street Lawyer' actually has a different plot and plan. It tackles many current issues, I believe, and at times, parts of the book go straight to the heart.

I have read all of Grisham's books and started reading them when I was 13, but I have found that by reading them, Grisham is one of the most interesting crime and law authors of our time, and argubly, author of all time.

Summary: Not up to par for Grisham!
Review: I am used to John Grisham's books being more entertaining. This one was slow to me. I like it but did not love it like I have some of his other books.

Summary: Boring and "worthy" Grisham
Review: Grisham's latest is such a disappoinment, it feels almost unlikely that this is the same man who wrote "A time to kill", "The Firm", and "The Partner", all of which were great thrillers. This one isn't. It reads like a boring textbook on the downside of the American society, or to be more spesific, all the homeless. Grisham seems obsessed with passing the blame and in the process he actually forgets to write a good book. His characters are embarrassing stereotypes and the story just doesn't cut it. Although the cause is more than worthy the novel suffers from being just that, "worthy", when it should have neen exiting and thrilling. The book strikes me a something of a "first draft" that should've been given a lot more work before being allowed to be published. Better luck the next time.....
