Summary: Not one of Grisham's Best.
Review: Interestingly enough I read this book during a 2 hour flight to Washington D.C. and then back again. The plot was extremely predicable, the characters were not well developed and the ending was trite and unconvincing. The homeless depicted in the book were so unsympathetic that I found myself thinking like the Congressman in the book. This was definitely Grisham-lite.

Summary: Very disappointing
Review: The beginning was very good. If drew me in, but then the plot got very slow and boring. Then the story finally picked up a bit, but actually to no avail, since the ending just kind of......ended. It seemed as if Grisham got tired of it and just wanted to finish. I think he spent too much time describing every single thing he saw.

Summary: Had to be done John?
Review: I read this book several months ago and, with enough distance since the disappointment, I think that he needed to write a social statement. I am hoping that since it's out of his system, THE TESTAMENT will take us back to his old style of writing - the style that worked for me. I vaguely remember the characters and vaguely remember the plot. I remember it being an OK read, nothing I have recommended to anyone. I was disappointed that it wasn't more typical of Grisham's style, but I think now upon retrospect, he needed to do this.

Summary: The jolly hobo isn't jolly any more.
Review: Exploitation of the homeless is at an all time high in Grisham's "Street Lawyer".

Filled with bourgeois myths about the innocent homeless being beaten up on by whoever our current political enemies are, the book misses no opportunity to slip in inexpensive political commentary.

Soup kitchen noble savages and straw man victims of those dastardly Republicans, are paraded out in service of the plot, and then tucked away again.

Grisham's homeless are not exactly "Freddy the Freeloader", but they come no where near rising to the level of human being.

They are a cute cause -- little more.

Albeit unrealistic, the story is well-told, as are the stories in all of Grisham's novels; but Grisham's noble but naive attempt to help the homeless falls flat.

Summary: Poorest Grisham Work To Date
Review: I've read every work Grisham has published. Some have been fast reads, while others have been less compelling, but still worthwhile. This book, however, wasn't worth the time it took to read or the paper it was printed on. Getting to the last page of this book was a sheer struggle.

The plot doesn't move at a decent pace. Brock is a poorly developed character with vague motivations and the actual story was unbelievably boring and at several points, outright annoying.

While I consider myself a liberal and I contribute to help the homeless, I found it very difficult to stomach Brock's placement of blame for a character's death so wholly on a law firm when it was clearly as a result of her own stupidity. Grisham sends the message that she was completely unaccountable for her own actions because weeks earlier the law firm had wronged her. Grisham then attempts to make a martyr out of her. Simply ridiculous.

Grisham could have created a decent story if he hadn't gone so far overboard in trying garner pity for a woman who did something absolutely idiotic. As it is, I likely won't be purchasing Grisham books in the future. He's more interested in churning out money-makers than writing intelligently.

Summary: Terrible
Review: I read for entertainment, not to be lectured for 400+ pages....by far the worst of all Grisham novels.

Summary: This book inspired me in ways ordinary life cannot/willnot.
Review: I could not put this book down from page 1 to finish. I am not a fiction reader, somehow I felt compelled to read this book. It is wonderful to see that not everyone (even authors) are capitalists and are able to write about an issue which touches us all in someway. He wrote this book it seems with inside knowledge of the way the homeless live. It was a heart warmer/wrencher and thriller all in one. It has inspired me like nothing else has in the 21 years of my life. I now read Non fiction and John Grisham. I recommend this for anyone from 6 y.o to 60 y.o

Summary: Grisham is great, but this is not one of his better books
Review: The book like most of his books was very good, but when compared to his other book i would have to say that it is the slowest and possibly the worst. He still has what it takes to keep the readers interested so it was hard for me to put even this book down.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: quick read with little surprise
Review: Of all the Grisham books I've read, this one was the quickest. Grisham certainly has a way of keeping his readers interested to finish the book. It's too bad I kept waiting for something unexpected to happen. Near the end I realized I had it figured out all along. A good depiction of homeless life and the fight they face, but not what I was expecting in a Grisham novel. Far from his best. Back to Clancy.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Grisham's "o.k." outperforms any close second.
Review: John Grisham is oh! so readable! I have read each and every one of his novels and look forward with the appetite of the fictionally obese to his next subject. I think he has done better....but who can presume to do better than Grisham!
