Rating: Summary: The Street Lawyer could be retitled 'The Sedative Lawyer' Review: I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all of Grisham's previous novels so I was very disappointed with this one---it was predictable, the characters lacked depth, and tedious to complete.Perhaps Grisham should choose between either writing an 'issue' book or writing an entertaining story---clearly he wasn't successful attempting to do both. This book has made me wary of future Grisham novels.
Rating: Summary: The Street Lawyer could be retitled 'The Sedative Lawyer" Review: I always look forward to a new Grisham story--I have all of his books and ejoyed them immensely. This one however was difficult to finish without falling asleep---it was boring, predictable, and the characters lacked depth. It was such a blatant attempt at writing an "issue" book and failed at truly doing that and failing to provide and interesting story as well.It has made me wary of future Grisham novels.
Rating: Summary: Give the guy a Break Review: absolutly wonderful book. I'm a High School senior at Ridgefield High School, Ridgefield, CT. This book and it's reveiews are all a clear example of how Americans today think they are helping the poor but really are doing absolutly nothing of the sort. "Mister" had everyone take out their tax returns and even Michal admitted his curiosity of who gave more to the United Way. This is not enough people, we, like michal, need to put our skills to the street and if nothing else, show a little love. This book was not for the money, it was a very clear picture on all of our Lexus driving butts and how poor we treat one another.
Rating: Summary: Not the best of Grisham by any means. Review: Our Writer's Guild decided a few months back to discuss current fiction works by best selling authors. Grisham's new novel was rated poorly as it was slow moving and absolutely boring at times. I had the misfortune of selecting Clancy's new book for review. I can't tell you what a let down it was. The characters are weak, redundant, and have too much irrelevant background information. Not one of seven writers who reviewed these books liked it. I also agree with the reviewer from Denver who read Brad Steiger's new book, Alien Rapture. It's the talk of our fiction group and is a gripping fast read with characters you'll never forget. Also 'The Poet' and 'Blood Work' by Connelly are excellent.
Rating: Summary: Is That All There Is? Review: First of all, I don't read many books. So when I do read one it better be good. This one, my first Grisham novel, started out strong and gave me the impression that my $7 would be well spent. Like this book or not, the guy weaves a decent tale. But after the first 100 pages or so I got to humming that Peggy Lee tune mentioned above. Was the existing plotline all there was to this book? I kept reading on with suspense thinking there would be some surprise awaiting me around some dark corner, not unlike Michael in the seedy DC neighborhoods, but it never materialized. What started out so promising ended up as a potential script for an upcoming episode of The Practice. At least that would have only wasted an hour of my time.
Rating: Summary: Do As I Say...Not As I Do Review: After Grisham's gratituitous digs at and lack of tolerance for politicians of a different persuasion, I was anxious to read the last page of the book where John was donating the proceeds from the sale of this book to the homeless. Unfortunately, I didn't find such a page. I guess the profits go into this rich writer's pocket and the homeless can keep sleeping in cars. The writer's hypocrisy certainly detracts from the effect and believability of the book. True Grisham fans will be able to read the book, but if this Grisham book is your first -- don't do it.
Rating: Summary: great, captivating, very, very well written Review: Let me start by saying I live in venezuela, ( don't know if you're interested, but I thought it may be interesting to hear what a non american have to say, and also to apologize before hand for any grammatical errors ) any way, I have read with these one two more, and I can't wait to read the ones I've missed and the new one. I think it is a great book, it is so well written, I can't put it down, ( same thing happened with the other 2 the partner and rainmaker )I am 40 pages short of finishing but wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed it it is up to date, the characters are wonderful I love the way he describes everything you can almost picture yourself in DC or the legal clinic or in the shelters, and I think it is a good thing of him since he knows his books are read by a lot of different people to use that medium to send out a message, so in short his books are great this one is no exception and as i told you before can't wait for the next one KEEP IT UP!!!
Rating: Summary: Weak. Review: This was my first Grisham book, though I have enjoyed a couple of movies based on his novels. I was surprised that the writing itself was so uninspired. It seemed as though Grisham thought his attempt to arouse sympathy for the homeless would be more important than his actual words. Then he avoided many important issues relevant to homelessness and instead relied on portraying a few unrealistic characters. I did finish the book, so maybe I should give it a 2 instead of a 1, but I was very disappointed. I doubt I will read any more Grisham novels.
Rating: Summary: What a let down..... Review: Finally the "new" Grisham came to Holland, I was really looking forward to a few nights of lost sleep anxiously reading what would happen next. But, unlike all the other Grisham books this was a pure dose of Ny-Quil.. I cared about the homeless until I read this lame plot. .... Please big editors out there... I can write better than this!
Rating: Summary: Suspensful! Exciting! Another John Grisham's masterpiece!! Review: The Street Lawyer is such a spetacular novel used to reveal the "dark side" of our legal system. John Grisham used very much of his talents. It looks like that it's another John Grisham's master piece!!
