Rating: Summary: Waiting for a plot to change Review: Although the characters described by Grisham rise the expectations at the beginning of the book, the plot just won't change for the better. The story is heart warming and well written, but it was not a story I expected to come from John Grisham.
Rating: Summary: A total snooze fest. Review: I have read all of John Grisham's books and this was by far the worst. The story had a good premise but John Grisham didn't deliver in this one. If you have never read a Grisham don't let this be your first, you may not read another.
Rating: Summary: Not really a legal story Review: I am a big fan of fast paced, SUSPENSFUL legal stories. I've read a few Grisham and have been satisfied, but not overly. This one takes the cake. Is the story about law or is it meant to be warm-fuzzy? I can sympathize with the plight of his new "clients" but I wish there was more characterization and motive for the big change in scenery. I finished it only because I was hoping it would get better.
Rating: Summary: NOT AS GOOD AS EXPECTED Review: I have read almost all of Grisham's books and i find this one the worst of all.Although the book is inspiring and it touches the heart, i think it wasn't typical of Grisham to wrire a book so plain. I have not yet read 'The Testament' so i can't compare the two of them. I believe Grisham can do better than this.
Rating: Summary: The Street Lawyer had an intense story plot. Review: Effort and hope would be futile for the homeless without a representative. The homeless cannot survive the corrupted world of power. Michael Brock, an average money making corporate lawyer, has experienced an unexpected situation which transforms his whole life. In the building of Drake & Sweeney, a giant D.C. law firm, was taken hostage by DeVon Hardy, a Vietnam veteran who was evicted by the firm. Brock, overwhelmed with this situation, became drawn into with the history of Hardy. Discovering the neighborhood of Hardy, he met a public lawyer, Mordecai. Mordecai, defending the homeless with a salary less than one-third of Brock, has devoted his time defend the poor from depravity of the world. Introduced to a homeless shelter, Brock becomes stunned by the number of homeless people visible. He gets to know a nice little homeless family. Becoming very personal with them, the news revealed that the family had died of asphyxiation. Brock later finds out that his very own law firm, Drake and Sweeney had evicted the family, too. Does this mean that he will become a moral lawyer, reveal the truth, or will money and power corrupt his innocent mind? Frustrated with the death of the family, he is destined to discover the illegal and illicit actions of his own law firm. Michael Brock the virtuous lawyer, the savior of the poor and the heart of morals, has "found a calling" and unveils the moral injustices of the homeless. He no longer works for money; he works for the truth. "I've lost my love for money. It's the curse of the devil." " The law is a higher calling." In the interim of all this, he faces the affliction of divorce, implicated to a crime for a stolen missing file, and injured in a car accident, demolishing his new Lexus. He is arrested in conviction for the missing file and dramatized in the criminal society of jail. How will he succeed? Michael Brock is embarked to a journey of his lifetime. The journey is only what the reader makes of it. Experience it and be anticipated to a work of literature that will lure you to the real world of corruption.
Rating: Summary: It's hard to put down!! Review: After diapponted with "The Runway Jury", I thought I wouldn't touch the Grasham's book for while. "The Street Lawyer" brought me back my old enthusiasm for his books. The story goes from an explosive shooting to a riveting negotiation scene, and I find it difficult to put down. Absolutely brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Terrible Review: This book stunk. I would have assigned it "0" stars if that option was available. Don't waste your time reading this boring "mish-mash".
Rating: Summary: Lawyer who makes life altering descisions after close death Review: John Grisham is an excellent author. He portrays all you need and more in a compelling story that moves you. He takes the topic of homelessness and makes you feel compassion and sadness for what they go through and how much they are neglected. He gives you details and information that is interesting to know for your own sake and the sake of the story. It keeps you wanting to know more. This lawyer wants to take on the world and you will find out if it was all worth it. He takes a leap of faith and the whole time has you thinking was it the right thing to do.
Rating: Summary: Still an excellent Grisham book Review: I am a Grisham fan and read all his books. This one is a little different from the others. It did not go into the details of day to day courtroom drama. Things happened really fast at the end. I can see why people would have a problem with this one. Not me!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: This was his best book so far. I couldn't put it down. It tought me alot about our homeless people also.
