Rating: Summary: NOW WE THING ABOUT THE HOMELESS PEOPLE ,AND HOW THEY LIVE. Review: This book is not the best of Grisham. I thoroughly enjoyed this book which is fast-paced and absorbing. It is easy reading and not multi-layered, but gets you to focus on the homeless problem and start considering how fortunate you are and how you yourself can begin to make a difference. We may not all quit our jobs to help the homeless, but someone reading this might consider helping out in a food bank, shelter or contributing in other ways. Not many novels can entertain while making you reconsider your own role in society, but that is just what happens here. Iread it in spanish edition.....
Rating: Summary: INSPIRING BOOK Review: I think this book inspires everybody who especializes in law profession. It is inspiring & I'm sure this will bring us in realization of the light & dark side of becoming a lawyer.
Rating: Summary: unrealistic Review: This book grabs you with suspense in the beginning but thats about all it does. It becomes to repetitive with the meeting soul searching as to why he wants to devote his life to helping the homeless. The homeless as described in this book are portrayed as if they were victims of the stock market crash. I am a law enforcement officer in New York City for over twenty seven years and the homeless I have come to met are not how Mr.Grisham portrays his homeless. Mr. Grisham's other books may be bestsellers, but I would only recommend this book to someone who wanted to read a quick book .
Rating: Summary: A Superb Resource for the Budding Lawyer Review: I recently had to defend myself in a murder case. I got rid of the public defender because he was a cracker. Anyway, this book helped me to learn how to be a lawyer. I was objecting and entering things into evidence just like the hero of this book. I'm from the street, so I could relate to him. PEACE BE WITH YOU ALL
Rating: Summary: very good Review: A great book, finly written. Gives a good message, that there's more to life then money. The book also makes you more aware of the homeless problem in America.
Rating: Summary: TIRESOME FANTASY Review: Let me start with some praise for Grisham's best work: THE FIRMwas an interesting well written novel with what to me was an originalplot. For that he deserves his wealth and fame. That said, I think it is sad that Grisham has since styled himself through his writing as the defender of the underprivledged, sacrificing his future in the battle against those in power. If that last paragragh sounded overblown and sappy, try reading THE STREET LAWYER. The plot, the charactors, and especially the moral tone of the book are garbage. The title charactor isn't a hero, he's a disillusioned fool. He leaves his position of power and burgeoning influence to work the streets where everyone he encounters seems full of great wisdom and courage as long as they are homeless or working for social services. Our "hero" bravely chucks aside his material trappings and corrupt values to bring justice to the street. I have news for Mr. Grisham. I worked the streets for 18 yrs, same types of neighborhoods, and same sort of charactors. His world is a fantasy that doesn't even make good reading. I found that street people are generally anything but "typical people who have run into a little bad luck".Not even close. The real street people are often dirty, drunk, high, loud and/or combative. Many others are very private. Many have mental problems. The one true generality fitting real street people is that the are very independent. They take pride in their independace. Most have very interesting personalities. They are not lost little lambs. They don't want to be pitied. Mostly they'd like to be left alone. They do resent be talked down to by misunderstood idealists. Please Mr Grisham, stick to writing what you know something about.
Rating: Summary: A bit too "politcally correct" for me but worth the read. Review: This is not Grisham's best work but is a good read. I thought it was a bit too "politically correct" and in that same light not very realistic (a bit too idealistic). I can't give it 5 stars but it still outclasses most of the competition.
Rating: Summary: Great concept, Great book Review: I've read most of Grisham's stuff and some I have liked and others I've been disapointed with. I feel that The Street Lawyer is possibly his best work. The thing that I generaly dislike about Grisham novels is the end which I always feel is rushed. However, I enjoyed the ending in this book a lot and felt it was realistic given the tone of the book. Basicaly, there is nothing I did not enjoy about this book. One area that seemed not to fit was the whole part about Ruby. I'm going to start The Testament soon, and I hope that is as good as The Street Lawyer.
Rating: Summary: GRABS you tight, then lets you go... Review: This book started out incredibly intriguing and was full of potential but ended very "blah." It could have had the excitement of The Firm but Grisham chose a different route. I found the story very interesting, but am so disappointed knowing what it could have been... Am looking forward to The Partner as I've heard its quite a story.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: I thought the book was great. The plot was a great page turner and I liked the basic story. It had a great theme and moral. The book was really fast reading with just enough suspense to keep you going. It was another one of his wonderful books.
