Rating: Summary: The Street Lawyer Review: I enjoyed this book. I didn't put it down until it was finished. I almost felt like I was in the story. Deserves more than 3 starts!
Rating: Summary: Back to the streets Review: "The Street Lawyer" is a drama, bringing us right down to our humanity and what we are willing to do in order to help others. It's inspirational as well as fearful in a lot of ways. I can't say I would do the same being in the main charachter's shoes. But I'd certainly hope most of us would. Society in general dislike lawyers, this book might just change your mind. There are also different kind of lawyers, let's not forget.
Rating: Summary: Please don't judge Grisham by this book Review: If Grisham had written his other books like this one he would be flipping burgers instead of writing books. A boring slow paced book that is sure to put you to sleep. After a well written first couple of chapters the book stalls. You think that you have another page turner on your hands and instead you feel like the pages are moving about as fast as molasses in January. Nobody should be subjected to the misery of this book, and this is the opinion of a huge Grisham fan.
Rating: Summary: THE STREET LAWYER A GREAT BOOK Review: John Grisham has done it again, he has written another great book about a lawyer. "The Street Lawyer" is a powerful book about how something unexpected can change your life in an instant. Michael Brock is a lawyer struggling to get to the top and his marriage is going down the drain. He is on his way to the top of a big law firm in Washington D.C. Soon Michael will have it all. One day a homeless man takes 9 lawyers hostage. When it is all over it changes Michael's life. Now he is willing to do anything for the homeless even give up everything he has. Pretty soon the people he work with at the big law firm will soon be his enemy because to them he is the most dangerous man on the streets. I think "The Street Lawyer" is a well-written book and I enjoyed it very much. If you love thrill and suspense read this book it is great.
Rating: Summary: A Cadbury Egg for the mind Review: The main character's behavior is incredible, likewise the redemptive ending. The lines of good and evil are rather simplistically drawn (though there are more cases of clear-cut abuse against the poor in real life than most people would like to realize.) There are no sentences that blow you away with sheer poetry, nor any deep insights into the nature of man and the cosmos. All this is a is a viscerally satisfying white-hats vs. black-hats legal thriller. Sometimes, as when you are stuck with your in-laws for a week, that's all you really need. Though it's not my usual style, I genuinely enjoyed this little book.
Rating: Summary: The Testament Review: It was definately a page turner.Once I started to read it,I could'nt put it down until I finnished it.
Rating: Summary: Too preachy Review: I am quite a fan of John Grisham and have always enjoyed his novels. This one though left me a little cold. I am taking writing classes myself and one of the rules I have learned is - don't preach. John Grisham does this big-time in this book about homelessness. I agree the whole western world needs a wakeup call about this issue but I think a subtle approach would have worked much better rather than hitting us all over the head with it as he did here. Much better to entertain and give a life lesson without the reader being aware of it.
Rating: Summary: It was good, but that's all. Review: This book was not what you'd expect. The first couple of chapter are great! and they really pull you in. But after that the book just kind of goes downhill. Don't get me wrong, it's a great book, but if you are looking for action or thrills, look someplace else.On the other hand, if you just want a good read and don't mind some slow part, I'd recommend it. Like I said, it's a great story, there just isn't the action it prepares you for at the start.
Rating: Summary: Finally, a realistic book on law and the homeless Review: "The Street Lawyer" was an excellent book, the first Grisham novel that I've read the whole way through. The intricacy of details in the novel are extremely important, for they reveal the horrofic and uplifting world that the main character finds himself in. I enjoyed the rapid changes that roared through the main character's life, and all the interesting people he met on the way. Mordecai Green, the first "street lawyer" that the main character met, (I think his name was Mike), was a hilarious and courageous man. The witty dialogue that takes place between Mike's former firm, Drake & Sweeney, and Mike was etched with suspense and satirism. And, as usual, the media rules the day in this novel, and Grisham observes the media with a thoughtful eye. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: Praiseworthy Civil Act Review: The readers, who anticipate a new page-turner from a famous author of legal thrillers, will be disappointed. In this novel John Grisham, who has stupendous audience all over the world, speaks loudly and distinctly about social problems of the U.S.homeless citizens. It is a praiseworthy civil act but unfortunately some characters of the book (including the main one) and their decisions and deeds appear artificial at times. Perhaps the author tells not about IS but about SHOULD BE: thank you, John, may your expectations come true...
