Summary: A Grisham Change
Review: John Grisham has been criticized repeatedly for writing the same story line over and over. This novel, THE STREET LAWYER, is a clear attempt at a break-away from his typical "formula." Brock becomes the epitome of what many of us would like to do--he leaves a high-powered firm because he feels that something is missing in his life. He wants to do something better. And he does. This was an important step for Grisham. It shows that he still has many layers to his writing that we have yet to discover. And while he may never win a Pulitzer Prize--Grisham himself will tell you that he is an entertainment writer--he certainly deserves respect for delivering the story lines his readers desire.

Summary: Good story - not your typical Grisham
Review: This book is something of a departure from the deep story-line of John Grisham's most popular books like The Firm and The Pelican Brief. It is very similar to many of his books: it's about lawyers; it's about the pitfalls of setting your sites on partnership at any cost; it's about that one big case that means everything with or without a huge fee. But, instead of being a deep-plotted mystery full of conspiracy and intrigue, this book is a political commentary on the mistreatment by society and the government of the homeless. And, as is most political commentary, it's very one-sided. Whether or not you agree with his analysis of the homeless problem, Grisham is very effective, as usual, at making his characters and story real, and at keeping the reader entertained. It is thinner than many of his novels and I had difficulty putting it away at bedtime.

Summary: Couldn't wait until the next tape!
Review: I listened to this book and couldn't help but become wrapped up in the plot. Granted it wasn't as thrilling and action packed as others, but it was good despite that. I liked it so much that I couldn't wait to hear the next tape, and the next after that. A must hear!

Summary: Really Great Book
Review: Last year I picked this book up knowing it had to be as good as the other Grishams. But I couldn't finish because I needed to keep up with my schoolwork. This year, I picked up again. IT WAS AMAZING! Grisham wrote another masterpiece here. It brings a very important issue into Grisham's novels. Before I read this, I had never known there was a such thing as a street lawyer.

Summary: A REALLY GOOD BOOK FOR IT'S KIND!
Review: The book isn't thrilling. It isn't. The first chapter sets it up very nicely and then it is pretty much a boring book, but I got into it. Usually if it isn't action packed all the time, it will sit on my nightstand, but I couldn't put it down. It makes ya think too. Everyone should read it, for it's information. Really makes ya think about the poor. Good book!

Summary: Interesting, informative but no thrill
Review: John Grisham did his good deed and let the world know about a struggling yet important segment of the legal profession and the impoverished souls that they help. I will look up the local organization of street lawyers and consider adding them to my list of charities that I give to each year.

Other than that, it was a bit boring.

Summary: Fun Read - different....
Review: This book was very entertaining allthough unrealistic. I had fun with the main character and I was amazed at his tanasisty to search for the truth - no matter what the cost or outcome would be.

I would like to see Grisham write another book with a heroine... his last book that centered on a female was the Pelican Brief - which was one of his best books yet.

Summary: Street Lawyer-- Good or Bad? Your Call
Review: "The Street Lawyer" is a great book. The main character is a guy named Michael Brock. Michael is a lawyer at a huge law firm called Drake and Sweeney. After a while he loses interest in working at the firm and goes into public interest law. Then, Michael uncovers a confidential file that may cause him difficuly and maybe even death! You have to read this thrilling novel. I hope that you enjoy it as much as i did.

Summary: Not one of his best
Review: As far as comparing John Grisham's books goes, this is definitely not one of his best. It seems like it was written in a few days. It doesn't seem like he spent as much time doing research and developing the story as some of his other books. The book does have a message, but the message is clear in the first few chapters and then it almost seems pointless to read on. The lead character of Micheal Brock is likeable but he is also familiar. He is a lot like the young lawyers with developing conciences in The Firm and The Chamber. The one character in the book that stood out was Mordecai Green. he was a very inspirational character who seemed very realistic. Maybe Grisham should have written the book about him.

Summary: Great author= great book
Review: This book has definitely been underrated. I too could not put this down because the tension he produces is tremendous. Although this is a personal opinion I would advise that if you liked other John Grisham books then you should give this one a chance!
