Rating: Summary: Thunderhead Review: This is the scariest book I ever read. I enjoy accurate science fiction and science horror stories, archeology, trekking, and native folk culture. I am an ardent Stephen King and Tolkien fan, but Preston and Child have captured the magic of native cultures, and an adventurers' worst nightmare and greediest scientific quest in "Thunderhead". This book was so consistantly suspenseful that I had to put it down at night and turn on the TV in order to fall asleep. A great read if you are interested in native culture, archeology, science, academia, and adventure travel. This one book compelled me to investigate all of their other creations. However, don't go see the movie "The Relic", it is a terrible ripoff of 'Alien"; boring and trite, read the book instead.
Rating: Summary: A personal favorite Review: The combined efforts of Preston and Child have yielded a fast-paced and intense book that reads more like you are watching an excellent movie than reading a book. The characterizations are a bit similar to Riptide, but the twists and turns are quiet different, allowing "Thunderhead" to distance itself from the excellent predecessor "Riptide". While both take concepts of estranged history (the money pit in "Riptide" and El Dorado in "Thunderhead") the pacing of the book is a bit different, as is the action. I think of all of their books, Thunderhead has to be my personal favorite. If you have never read Preston and Child before, I suggest you start here.
Rating: Summary: A MUST BUY...better than Riptide Review: Child and Preston have clearly out done themselves again with Thunderhead. Just when I thought Riptide couldn't be outdone, Thunderhead came along and blew me away. Filled with historical facts, vivid desert vally descriptions and one intense, spellbinding story I couldn't put the book down. To top it all off one of my favorite characters from another story (clue: the reporter) returns to find himself involved in another hair raising adventure. Not only does this story send you on a thrill ride you will often find the hair raising on your neck as the skinwalkers creep into your thoughts when the lights go out. Do not hesitate, you must check this out NOW!
Rating: Summary: Don't Get Me Wrong - I recommend It Review: This is the third Child/Preston book I have read, and while I enjoyed it, I am finding their formula a little tedius. Certainly it was a page turning adventure and gave me some insight on lost Native American cultures. However, I found it too long with too much of the "Perils of Pauline" flavour. From about the middle I wanted them to get to the punchline - an admirable trait that Child and Preston are famous for. Nevertheless, it is a decent read.
Rating: Summary: If only I could give more stars... Review: If I had to pick one of these guys' books over all the others... I wouldn't know what to do. Which would I choose? I'm not sure which one would win out, but Thunderhead would be a serious contender. Preston and Child have used the same formula that made their previous novels so great, interesting characters, great dialogue and execution combined with a stellar plot and setting. I really don't know what to say, there is no reason to mention the plot, these guys could make politics interesting, so I will close with this: Have these guys ever really let you down?
Rating: Summary: Lots of Fun Review: This is my fifth book by these authors, after The Relic, Reliquary, Mount Dragon and Riptide. I must say they deliver exactly on their promise. Their books are very entertaining and will most likely leave you wishing for more.
Rating: Summary: "Thunderhead" steals the thunder! Review: Another great yarn from Preston and Child. They are not only the masters of high concept, but deliver consistently and at peak form like perhaps no other writers in the adventure category alive today. This book is as good as their others -- wonderful.
Rating: Summary: a good read Review: Thunderhead was one of those "you can't put it down" books. I found myself reading, on a work night, until 4 in the morning. Just a little more, just to find out what is going to happen next.... It was a good, scary, book with just enough twists to keep you guessing. I had read The Relic, and loved it. But I had read Mount Dragon, and frankly wasn't that enchanted with it. So my expectations for this one was fairly low, but I had run out of things to read....so I boughtit, took it home and started reading. Right away it pulled me into the story, and kept me there (til way past bedtime). I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: DON'T MISS THIS READ!!!! Review: Finally, a book that grabs your attention and holds it til the end. An excellent tale of mystery and intrigue. I have never read a Childs/Preston book I haven't liked, and I think I've read them all. Of all of them, this is my favorite. Archeology, ancient mysteries, present mysteries, strange creatures, meddling bosses, unexpected happenings, great characters and a good story line keep you glued to the pages of this novel. When you're done with it, order their other works. They are worth having on your book shelves. You'll be telling all of your friends.
Rating: Summary: Superb Summer read Review: If you like adventure stories...get this. I enjoyed this more than any book I've read in the past couple of years. It's a little far-fetched for those of you sticklers for reality. It's a fun, scary and mystical ride through the crags and canyons of New Mexico and Anisazi Indian history. Great read. I recommend it for any fans of Crichton and other scientific adventure authors.
