Rating: Summary: An entertaining thriller based on Southwestern archeology Review: A quick read and very enjoyable. Unlike some their prior books, they provide a plausible explanation for the supernatural elements.
Rating: Summary: I expected more... Review: While the premise for the story was excellent, the story didn't live up to expectations. After having read The Reliquary by these authors -- which I thought was excellent -- I expected a better story than what I read. Don't get me wrong, the story is good and it does hold your interest, but I know the authors can do better. Also, Subterranean by James Rollins -- another book involving cave explorations -- is a very hard book to top and I happened to read Rollins' book first. I'd still recommend Thunderhead, but as a book checked out from the library.
Rating: Summary: Excellent thriller from the latest leaders of the genre. Review: Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child continue to amaze me. This novel is distinguished in its characterizations and story. Overflowing with description and archaeological/anthropological facets this ancient mystery is given new life with a colorful story. Bravo.
Rating: Summary: This might just be the scariest book I've ever read! Review: Can't put this book down! Can't sleep! Woke up dreaming about wolves and skinwalkers! I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: I expected more. Review: I was disappointed in this book. Yes it does take the reader to a different place, but the characters are flat and predictable. There were ample opportunities to develop the characters but none of them ever reached me...I really never cared about any of them. The text itself had more of a "now they did this, this and this" feel to it rather than a descriptive narrative that enriches the reader's imagination and images.
Rating: Summary: Great combination of history and fiction Review: I've read all 5 of these author's combined efforts. Each takes you into a different direction. This one is no different. This book draws you in with it's combination of history and fiction. They've found a great combination for horror/thriller fans. I'd rate this one third behind Riptide and Relic. But, you need to read them all.
Rating: Summary: Preston & Child do it AGAIN!!! Review: Once again these two powerful authors have proven that they are closing in on the summit of thier genre. These two have woven an intricate story and opened up an interesting period of Native American history as well. Congrats are in order, let us pray they keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: After reading the on-line reviews, I expected something much stronger. The character development is non-existent and what should be small details, such as Nora's non-response to her dog missing and the weak "who would you sleep with" dialogue between Nora and Sloan, flatten the characters. This was far from the "you won't be able to put it down" accolades listed on the cover.
Rating: Summary: The authors make you feel like you are there. Review: I discovered this book (and these authors) while stuck in the Philadelphia airport after a cancelled flight. What a lucky find! Reading it is like being out west on an archeological dig. Once you get about half way through, this book is impossible to put down. Thunderhead is great for anyone who likes history and mystery wrapped around some interesting, well developed characters. I've since read other books by these authors, but this one is the best.
Rating: Summary: Highly recommended Review: Because I have neglected practically everything I OUGHT to be doing --thanks to my inability to tear myself out of this book-- I no longer have time to write a thoughtful review. I'll be brief. Read this book. You won't regret a moment of it. How often can you experience a roller-coaster of a thrill ride, and come away with your knowledge of geography and anthropology so greatly enhanced?
