Summary: DULL.....
Review: I hope that John Grisham returns to his regular genre with his next book. I always look forward to his new release in February as an escape from winter in Western New York, but this book was dull, slow and boring. I just kept reading to get to the end. I'm glad I borrowed this book from my public library and didn't waste my money on purchasing it!!

Summary: nice read
Review: i think this book was a nice read, nothing to write home about but luke was sweet and the family was nice, the book had no endings: for example the guy in the war where did he end up or the baby, or the "runaways" or the hill people when they got home or the floods or how the bus ride ends there does need to be a sequel and i admit i would love to read it

Summary: Although very different, another blockbuster by Grisham!
Review: Having read all of Grisham's legal dramas over the years, I was a bit hesitant to read A Painted House. However, once I started, I could not put it down. The way he writes is amazing to me. Throughout the entire book, I felt as though I was right there in Black Oak - an anonymous eyewitness to this captivating story. I enjoyed not only the glimpse into the South in the 50s but also the chance to read about a time where everything is done just to make ends meet. As with no other Grisham novel, this one was definitely a tear jerker. I loved it and I am so glad that I gave it a chance - a great read! So, whether it be a sequel to A Painted House or another legal drama - I'll buy the next Grisham novel as soon as it's available!

Summary: A diffrent side of Grisham
Review: As a person who has read all the of John Grishams' book I would have to say that this is one of my favorites. I thought it showed a diffrent side to Grishams writing, the lawyer side was getting old. I liked how it showed life is so simple yet so complicated. I would have to say that if you really want a great book then this is not for you, but if you want just a very entertaining book that will take you back to the sixties this is for you. A painted house is just one of those entertaining books that you will enjoy reading.

Summary: Good read...great characters!
Review: What a pleasant surprise from an author we all know pens a good read. I ferverently hope that Mr. Grisham spins another tale for those of us who tire of the lawyers and courtrooms. This particular tale kept me engrossed for several hours. I will gladly share this one with others, and somewhat impatiently await its return to my grubby paws so I can devour it again. Thanks again, Mr. Grisham, please give us more like this one!

Summary: A pleasant surprise
Review: I kept looking for a lawyer, but I was not disappointed. This departure from previous Grisham books kept me captivated for 48 hours. This was a charming story, with characters I fell in love with. I love john Grisham's sublte sense of humor and the way he tells a story. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: no surprising ending
Review: I enjoy Grisham's books. This one brought back memories of visiting my grandparents. But like "The Bretheren", there was no fantastic ending like in "The Firm". His grandmother was so like mine. She was generous to anyone in need. The grandfather was also like mine, quite stubborn. The grandfather showed more love to the grandchild, Luke, because its so hard for him to outwardly show love to his own children. The church events were humorous. Luke's reflections on things were funny too, however, I do not think 7 year olds are ever that perceptive.

Summary: The New Grisham
Review: After reading the back cover of the book, my first thought was, hmmm, do I really want to buy this book? But, it being a John Grisham novel, I did. While the story is very slow moving, I did find it interesting. It is interesting to hear the story told from the perspective of a little seven year old boy and his life on the cotton farm. It's a piece of life that not too many of us see or live. It certainly brings to light the harsh reality that comes with the decision to be a cotton farmer. The depicted life style brings a true sense of the struggles, the hardships, and the triumphs and tradegies involved with life on a cotton farm.

Summary: Very Good Book
Review: I really enjoyed reading "A Painted House;" I hope John continues this one with a sequel; I really want to know what happenes to Luke. He is so young, and he holds so many family secrets. And Family secrets have a way of coming out at the worst possible times. So I loved this one, and I hope he writes a sequel - soon!!!

Summary: Save your money!
Review: I am a big Grisham fan but this book was not worth the cost. I quit reading about half way through because I lost total interest in the story line and the characters. The story line was dull and exceedingly boring. When I reached the point that I did not care what happened to the seven year old protagonist or his family it was time to give this book away.
