Review: I really enjoyed this book which was the first book by James Patterson that featured Alex Cross. Although not as fun to read (in my opinion) as "Kiss The Girls", I still found this book very hard to put down. There were numerous enjoyable plot twists and, for a lot of the book, I was guessing what was really going on. Also, the ending was very exciting and I did not see it coming at all. Fans of the suspense/thriller books and fans of James Patterson should not be disappointed with the book!

Review: I couldn't put this one down. I've read other Patterson titles and J.P. really does a fantastic job with this thriller. Along Came A Spider is what I call white-knuckle reading. Serial killer fans should also check out Red Hearts by J. M. Barlog. It's another serial killer thriller written with the same intensity.

Review: First and foremost, let me quote reviewer "dan x": ..."I did a little research and found that this book is the first in a series for fictional detective Alex Cross. (I hate to read a series out of order, even if the stories are independent and don't continue from book to book.)"

I also did some research and came up with the same results as he did, and I too, hate reading books out of sequence. It is indeed, a very fast and engrossing read that has pretty much of everything in it. I will doubtlessly look forward to reading future Alex Cross novels, there's no doubt about that. If they are anywhere near as good as "Along Came a Spider" was, then they're excellent.

Summary: clever, suave and unpredictable (for most part)
Review: If there's ever a book which will keep you turning the pages, Along Came a Spider is it. I read this book after watching Kiss the Girls, and I wasn't disappointed. The characters are unpredictable and the twists keep coming almost too much so, but Alex Cross is a down to Earth character in which unlike other characters of similar books, is easy to relate to. Jeese Flannagan the main female in the book, is definitely a girl i would go out with, independent, a little manipulative, no weak charcters here. Definitely a worthwhile read!

Review: I didn't really like thrillers before I read this book, but James Patterson got me hooked. I was told about Along Came A Spider by my holiday rep while on holiday, and I never got chance to thank her. The suspence in Along Came A Spider keeps you riveted and resentful when friends come round and spoils your reading time. Alex Cross is believable in his devotion to his family and his work, and psychopath Gary Soneji was the scariest fiend I'd ever read. More writers like this and the whole world will forever read.

Summary: How can people like this book?
Review: This book was so poorly written that I could not stand to keep reading it. The sentences were short, stilted and awkward, the descriptions cliched, and the dialogue unlike the way people speak. I found so much of it boring, simple-minded, wordy, hackneyed, overly obvious and confusing in turns, though brief sections caught my interest. It really puzzles me that so many people found this so good...are they young or infrequent readers, as some of the reviews suggest? Is it the plot that pulls them in?

It also seemed very ofensive and insensitive to me to open with the tragic death of a real baby and use it for 'entertainment.'

I have loved such books as Presumed Innocent by Turow and anything by Le Carre and Ruth Rendell, but this Spider book just had nothing to hold my interest and so much to put me off. It was like bad televion in a book. Patterson must have a gift of some sort, based on all the good reviews, but all I could think was that this book needed extensive rewriting or editing.

Review: This book kept me on the edge of my chair from the first chapter. Alex Cross is such a believable character and the paths he takes through this book are so exciting! The ending was not a complete surprise because I could kinda see it coming, but Patterson's book definitely surprised me in other ways! I'm definitely going to look for other books by Patterson and especially Alex Cross!

Review: This book kept me in suspense the whole time. The characters were interesting and full of suprises! The romance between Alex and Jezzie took away from the chilling feeling given by the killer. This book was a realalistic and not so off the wall from every day life. The friendship between Sanpson and Alex was real, I could really connect with it they, really understood eachother. The torture the families of the two children went through was out of this world. I actually felt bad for them. The ending was a sense of relief. It made me feel like I was finally at peace. I had absolutely no idea that Jezzie was involved in the kidnapping. That was the most suprising part. I would reccomend this book to anyone who wants a good scare!
