Rating: Summary: New to John Sandford Review: This was the first Sandford novel I read and I really liked it. Regarding the criticism some made about Jake not mourning, different people mourn in different ways. He was obviously angry and upset, using his search for answers and his attraction to Anna as a distraction from his grief. It was a very entertaining read (which is why I read fiction, for entertainment) and as soon as I finished it I went out and got Rules of Prey.
Rating: Summary: I Liked it! Review: I was a first time reader of John Sandford and liked this book very much. I WILL read his Prey Series.
Rating: Summary: BIG Disappointment.... Review: I loved The Night Crew until I got 3/4 of the way through it. Sure some parts were kinda unbelievable (Jake barely grieving for his son; Pam just camping out at Creek's beside) but I put those things aside because I was thinking, "Boy, this is building to an AWESOME climax! Is the killer Jake or Creek or someone else?" I couldn't wait to find out. When I actually did find out, I was so angry that I could barely finish the book. I found out and didn't even care! It was just, for lack of a better literary term--stupid. Don't bother with this book. It took 4 hours out of my life that I'll never get back. Don't let the same happen to you.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment Review: After reading several of the "Prey" series, I expected the same quality when I began this book. I was very disappointed. While some of the writing was good and parts of the plot were interesting, I thought the book as a whole was disjointed and at times it seemed as though Sandford didn't know where he wanted to go with it so he just filled in with a bunch of fluff until he got around to the plot again. I found the character of Jake especially unbelievable. Imagine losing your only son to a drug induced suicide and then two days later making jokes and romancing someone you hardly know. The ending was especially pointless and disappointing. I would recommend any of the "Prey" series, but definitely not this turkey.
Rating: Summary: Anna is almost as good as Gale Weathers of SCREAM. Review: I could see Courtney Cox playing her in the movie. But Deputy Dewey boy should take a vacation from this thrill ride. I also would like to thank John Sandford for not using the word Prey in the title. Too many of his novels have the word prey in it, its becoming a sterotype.
Rating: Summary: fast-paced but superficial Review: John Sanford knows how to keep a story moving, and his characters get into some exciting situations, but I don't really think it was that involving of a mystery or as original a plot as I thought it was going to be. The Empress File sure sounds good, though.
Rating: Summary: This is one of his very best! Review: This is fast paced , has excellent plot. I didn't get ahead of the story and I read a lot of mystery stories. I can hardly wait to read the next book by him that is on my shelf.
Rating: Summary: Good, Not Great Review: Had I not read Mr. Sandford's PREY series first, I probably would have liked this book alot more. Anna, I found, was hard to warm up to. Creek did nothing for me at all. The who-done-it was pretty good, but the ending was a let down. So, it was ok, but try the Prey novels first.
Rating: Summary: Don't read this book with Prey books in mind. Just enjoy it. Review: I had not read a Sandford book for about 2 years. I noticed this was a new venture and picked it up. I found it to be every bit as good as the prey books but it is different. I liked the plot and characters and hope that he continues with this line of books. I have since read a couple more Prey books and indeed enjoyed them. Don't make the mistake of trying to compare the two. it's to easy to get use to Davenport. Judge Night Crew on its own and I think you will give it 5 stars as I did.
Rating: Summary: Couldn't put the book down! Review: I am not an avid reader. In fact I have probably have read about 4 books for leasure my whole life. But once I picked up "Night Crew" I couldn't put it down. I read it during lunch breaks, I turned off the TV and I finished the book in four days! It was a great book! My only disapointment is, I finished the book.
