Summary: Another Masterpiece Thriller From Eisler
Review: For everyone who read and loved Eisler's first novel, Rain Fall, this sequel surpasses all expectations. For those who haven't yet discovered the world of John Rain, its time to find out what you've been missing. While continuing in the exciting themes of intrigue and action on the streets of Tokyo and beyond, in Hard Rain, Eisler takes us deeper still into the complex and fascinating character of John Rain. And, as with Rain Fall, once you get on this roller coaster ride of a story, you won't be able to get off until you reach the conclusion. Whether or not you're a fan of thrillers, if you enjoy intelligent and graceful writing, deft character development, and compelling plots, you'll love Hard Rain.

Summary: As good as the first book!
Review: For fans of the hitman thriller, 'Hard Rain' is as exciting as its predecessor "Rain Fall'. The second book has an independent story line, but will be best appreciated by those familiar with the characters from the first novel, many of whom reappear here. Eisler has an outstanding capacity to bring you into the mind of the amoral antihero John Rain, and as likely as not you will find some unexpected empathy for the man. Check your moral certainties at the door; you will be hard pressed to find a more intriguing and unsettling character on your bookshelf.

Summary: A great summer read
Review: Hard Rain is a terrific sequel to Eisler's first novel, Rain Fall. John Rain is an intelligent and insightful character who manages to bring a code of ethics to the dark world of political corruption and assasination. He is the consummate professional who is so good at what he does that he can't escape it.
I read the book in two days - can't wait for the next!

Summary: Rain's Return Delivers a Knockout!
Review: Hard Rain is one of the best sequels I've read. In this gripping installment, author Barry Eisler has stepped into a league with the great action-story authors of our time. Assassin-protagonist John Rain is a character study in multiculturalism, psychology, and ideology who provides a rich structure from which to tell this story of corruption and redemption.

But Hard Rain is much more than an action-suspense story. Through John Rain's eyes, Eisler gives us a look at modern Japanese society, with a harsh commentary on the systemic maladies that have crippled the country for over a decade. Eisler's literary prowess weaves an obvious love for Japan's culture, society, and history, with a bitter rebuke of a bureaucracy more interested in self-aggrandizement than in serving the people who support it.

Hard Rain has something for just about everyone to love. Action, intrigue, mystery, passion, introspection, and political commentary are woven masterfully into a story that just keeps getting better. I highly recommend Hard Rain, and anxiously await Rain's next move! Read it and I know you'll agree!!!

Summary: We need more Rain
Review: Hard Rain is the second book featuring the anti-hero John Rain and the many facets of Tokyo, Japan. Within a few pages both Rain and Tokyo become vividly accessible to the reader, and by the end of the book we feel like we've had the privilege of discovering two complex, self contradictory and yet consistent characters. Tokyo comes to life as Rain prowls through its unscrubbed neighborhoods, and Rain's inner conflicts stir as the story takes him to its inevitable but unpredictable conclusion.

The story is a great blend of edgy hard core action sequences and an exploration of the mind of an outlaw for whom survival is just about the only law. The locations are described so accurately that memories come flooding back to you if you've been there before (I have), and that the book could serve as a very unconventional tour guide if you haven't. Rain's character is like a magnifying glass in that many of our little internal conflicts are amplified in him because of his family, his background and his career.

Hard Rain is hard to put down.

Summary: Hard Rain: A Must Read!
Review: Hard Rain more than fulfills the promise of Rain Fall, the debut novel by Barry Eisler, that Publishers Weekly named a Best Novel of 2002. Hard Rain is a taut, suspenseful, and rivetting read, and protagonist John Rain, the half Japanese, half American assassin who specializes in death by 'natural causes' gets even more under your skin in this second novel. Rain is one of the most complex, multi-dimensional, and memorable characters to come along in a long time. Eisler's strong female characters, his evocation of a dark Tokyo landscape that one can almost see and smell, and his chillingly realistic action and fight sequences make this a powerful thriller that shades off into the literary at times. This book is a must read both for fans of the genre and for readers who crave a thought-provoking, suspenseful, intense, well crafted novel!

Summary: Non Stop Action
Review: Hard Rain, hard to put down! Great summer reading material for vacation time, or anytime when you need an escape from the doledrums of routine life. John Rain is a modern sexy hero, who is a "bad" guy with a core of dignity. He is a complex character pefect for these cynical times in which we live. Following his story will make your heart race, and will set you on the edge of your seat. Hang on for the ride...
