Summary: my first prey series book - what a treat!
Review: this book was really good....fast paced, it read like a movie and was a great change from some of the plodding, overly descriptive books i have encountered in the past. the author is a whiz at keeping the action non-stop and I was racing home to read some more... i will definitely purchase more of the prey series - this book was great!

Summary: Certain Prey
Review: Have read all of Sanford's books and anxiously await each new one. This book is one you can't put down. The two women characters are so thoroughly cold and calculating yet with some frailities. Lucas Davenport is a great character and also his co-workers in the department are so real. Have given the book to 3 others and they couldn't put it down either.

Summary: Didn't Live Up To Expectations
Review: I have enjoyed all the previous Prey books, so I readily bought into all the hype surrounding this one. I was looking forward to a suspenseful page turner. A book I could lose myself in. It didn't live up to my expectations. A farfetched plot without Sanford's usual spark. The character, Clara Rinker, was a good one but not strong enough to carry the story. I had the impression that Sanford came up with the Rinker character and tried to build a story around her. It didn't work.

Summary: His best?
Review: I like all Davenport novels. But seems the best to me because Sandford has changed the pattern of these novels slightly here. Not only is Davenport not in one of his periods of depression. But this time his genius is not the only factor that solves the case. Like in real life accident plays a great role. When he finds out about Tennex he sees it from a completely different angle than Clara Rinker when she found the name. And there are still more examples. In this book Davenport becomes a little more human than in the others. I enjoyed every single page of it. Come on, John, let us have more Davenport stories!

Summary: Fantastic Ride!
Review: I picked up this book when my friend's mom enthused about John Sanford and also seeing a bunch of people reading his books on the train.

This story was fantastic. I really admired Clara Rinker and was rooting for her the entire time. A hired assassin with a conscious and a psychotic defense attorny. They made a formidable team until Lucas cracked down on them.

I am still pretty amazed by how the police and FBIs were able to piece together a case against Carmel with so little evidence.

It was a fast and furious pace. But ended with possibilities that Rinker and Davenport would meet up again. I hope that happens!

Summary: A Little Different Prey
Review: This book was a breath of fresh air after the last one. I was really tiring of Davenport going through women like dish rags. The whole flavor of Certain Prey is different and refreshing from all the rest. I do enjoy reading a book where I can follow the streets and buildings knowing where we're going. Sandford's books rarely miss details, which is also refreshing in a novelist. The only thing that didn't really work well in this one was the link between Carmel Loan and the Department. I think that could have been done better. Oh... one last thing - please get some real character names.

Summary: Great book...John has another winner
Review: I love the Prey series! This was a great book with Davenport playing his usual sneeky self. Rinker is a great character as a women hit person she is amazing! Loan plays a great psychotic killer-wanna be. Very easy read...literally couldn't put it down!

Summary: JOHN SANFORD - YOU'VE DONE IT AGAIN!
Review: Finding Certain Prey the day before Easter Week End was like finding an answer to prayer (sorry!). It lived up to my anticipation and excitement. Once again the characters were believable and some were even likeable. Davenport himself seems to have grown and although the ending was written as for the screen it still meant the book ended, yet stayed open. Not as evil as some of the previous 'Prey' books therefor leaving you able to sleep after - which for some could be a disappointment. Let's hope we don't have to wait too long for the next one. Sandford writes the best crime novels of our time and deserves more recognition and promotion. If you haven't tried them yet, lock the front door, turn on all the lights and buy 'Rules of Prey' first - but don't answer the door bell when it rings..........

Summary: I LOVE Lucas Davenport!
Review: As a sixteen year veteran of the "most rapacious gang of weasels in the North Woods" (aka the Wisconsin State Patrol as John Sandford describes us!), I only wish law enforcement could be done as he describes it! The plot details might be implausible, but the book should be read for its entertainment value, not a law enforcement manual! I do wish, though, that Mr. Sandford had identified Carmel's mole in the department--that could have been an interesting little sub-plot. A great read, I think, as are all of the 'Prey' novels! P.S. to Mr. Sandford: You have a free ride when I'm on-duty! State Car 370

Summary: My First Prey
Review: This was my first John Sandford book and I really enjoyed it alot. I will buy more of his books. If you put aside the fact that the main character is a "erotic dancer" gone "hired killer" then you will do just fine. I had a tiny problem with that BUT all in all I couldnt put the book down and really enjoyed all the characters and will read some more soon!
