Summary: Another Wonderful Read from Gerrittsen!
Review: I was really looking forward to this follow up to "The Surgeon" and it certainly didn't disappoint. Many plot twists that all come together towards the end and it makes me crave the next installment.

Summary: Waste of Time
Review: This book was way below Gerritsen's usual standards. She couldn't seem to decide if the book was a romance or medical thriller. The plot was engaging at first, but then got silly. Some of the "dramatic" events came out of nowhere and didn't seem to have a point. And what was up with Maura's lust for the priest?? This is one of those books that you finish and think, "THAT was a stupid book and waste of time."

Summary: Tess was sleepwalking through this
Review: The Sinner does not even come close to The Apprentice and The Surgeon. There was WAY too much of Gerritsen's Romance Novel background in this to make me comfortable. The ending was ludicrous and came out of nowhere and never seemed legit to me. After a promising open she put in an overdone resolution of the church storyline and lurched in another direction, dragging us through two rekindled romances and a lot of a lust for a priest. Wrong genre. Her medical stuff was strong, of course, but her ME was grating. This whole "Queen of the Dead" thing was overdone, and Gerritsen protests WAY too much that being a medical examiner is an important and noble duty. It all might have rung more sincere if she showed us instead of telling us all the time. I felt that her ME was a real Kay Scarpetta wannabe, which is a mistake -- there's only one Kay. On the other hand, her detective is sui generis -- messy hair and all. Whereas Dr. Isles never rang true, Rizzoli seemed very real. Gerritsen can really write -- when she wants to. This was a disappointing, lazy effort.

Summary: Sinner
Review: After reading the Surgeon and the Apprentice any author would be hard pressed to come up with something as good, but, Tess Gerritsen has almost done it with this book. It's a real page turner. I hope she keeps these characters for awhile.
I have to admit I read the book in a day and a half. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because I just finished reading the Surgeon and the Apprentice and just couldn't put it up to those two.
Great book am awaiting her next work.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I started reading this book on a Sunday 6pm. I was through with it the next afternoon and I didn't miss work. It will grab you and not let you go, so fair warning. Check with your boss to see if its ok to read at lunch and on breaks. The only complaint would be the beginning is much better than the ending, but only slightly. She paints a picture in vivid detail that gets less vivid as the finishing touches are put on it.

Summary: Good start drops to an oddly dry read
Review: The Prologue is the most exciting part; the first few chapters are suspenseful. After that, it's downhill. There's not much edge and little excitement. For the most part, THE SINNER is tepid and lackluster.

Even the requisite edgy female cop, Rizzoli, has her edginess dulled right from the beginning. Character development is fuzzy. Hints at sexual attraction or deepening friendship go nowhere. One whole chapter doesn't seem to have a point. Even the sexy scenes lack excitement. A horrible thing happens and there's plenty of gore, but, by the end, it doesn't add up to much.

The women do lots of soul-searching, but it's not profound. Rather than provide a breather, the love interests -- which took up way too much of the story for my taste -- weigh it down and only add to the ploddiness.

Summary: Pray for a rainy day....
Review: It's Labor Day weekend. Lots of outside plans. Lots of unexpected rain...and...

...that's a very good thing. Instead of walking the craft fair and barbequing...I got to stay in and read...the whole book.

I have read both other books in this series, The Surgeon and The Apprentice...and The Sinner...is definitely my favorite to date. Very interesting plot, intermingling of characters, alot of twists and turns.

I'm not an avid fad of reviews that tell you alot about a book so I won't.

It's a great mystery/thriller.

Just enjoy. I know I did.

Summary: It's no Surgeon or Apprentice
Review: As a huge fan of both The Surgeon and The Apprentice, I've been awaiting the release of The Sinner for quite some time. Although I ripped right through this book (no pun intended), I must say I was at least a little disappointed. It simply didn't have the same grip or grisly tension of the first two installments in the series. The first two books were deeply engrossing and tense suspense crime novels. In her latest book, Gerritsen dwells far too much on Rizzoli's pregnency and relationships in general. This departure significantly detracts from the overall momentum of the novel, as well as any established feeling of fear or tension. If you really enjoyed the first two, I would say you might like this book, otherwise, I would steer clear.
