Rating: Summary: Somewhat suspenseful but characters totally unbelievable Review: Like others, I found this book to be very disappointing and one of Patterson's worst works. The book was very good at some points and there were times when I even found it to be very suspenseful. However, a lot of it was boring and had me rolling my eyes at how recycled it was. I thought the worst part was by far Patterson's characterization of the main people, especially the cop in the wheelchair. While Jeffery Deavers (who also writes a book series with a hero who is paralyzed) seemed to do research on what it is like to have a spinal cord injury, it is obvious that Patterson was flying strait from the hip. I found it pretty hard to believe that this guy seemed to be able to get around everywhere, and the ending? puhlease! I felt like I was watching a made for TV movie or something. Been there done that. It makes me wonder if he did any research at all when writing his last book "When the Wind Blows." Anyway, I know this was one of Patterson's first books, but I'm still pretty disappointed. I guess that's what happens when you've been spoiled by his Cross novels for so long.
Rating: Summary: Compared to Patterson's other books, this was disappointing. Review: I loved all of Patterson's other books and was excited to see a new one on the shelves. However, my excitement lasted for about the first 10 pages. The plot was contrived, the characters were shallow (although I loved the hero in the wheelchair.. it was heartening to see his troubles and triumphs), the dialogue was stilted. I kept thinking that this must have been one of Patterson's early works before he learned how to REALLY write.
Rating: Summary: What a waste of time Review: The characters were impossible to identify with; the conversation incredibly far-fetched. Every charater was gorgeous and built (yeah right). The plot was ridiculous.
Rating: Summary: a one day read Review: a new reader of James Patterson, this being #4 that I've read, I thorougly enjoyed it. Started at night, finished it enroute from Baltimre to PA the next day. It was made even more eciting for me, having been bor, and grown up, in Minersville PA! His books are a definite must for me. I enjoy the relationships he develops with his characters, so that it's not just another "cops and robbers" book. Would like to see it as a TV film.
Rating: Summary: My first Patterson book and I found it a page turner! Nice! Review: Nicely written! I enjoyed the book a lot. It really kept me going especially the villain St.Germain. The last 75 too 100 pages unfolded very rapidly. Some parts of the ending and begining were predictable. I believe the book contained exciting characters. It had just the right amount of drama and suspense. It was very exciting to read. The setting in Manhattan reminded me much of back home. I could easily picture everything. I felt like a character in the book.I look forward to more James Patterson books. Job well done!
Rating: Summary: Another page-turner for Patterson Review: I have been a huge Patterson fan for the last few years or so. Although this was not one of his best books,it sure wasn't the worst one (Season of the Machete was my least favorite Patterson book). It is evident that the more Patterson writes, the better his stories become. I think I can speak for most Patterson fans by saying that the books written with Alex Cross as the main character are his best works of art. I felt that the Midnight Club's ending was a bit rushed, that it could have had more character development too. Don't get me wrong, I still couldn't put the book down (much to my husband's chagrin) - I even found myself reading at red lights!!!!
Rating: Summary: Pretty tame stuff Review: THE MIDNIGHT CLUB was disappointing. It was brilliant at times but strayed too often into irrelevant stuff and suffered from rather contrived sub plots. Maybe it's because I read this book after reading THE TRIUMPH AND THE GLORY, which was magnificent, but I just found THE MIDNIGHT CLUB pretty boring considering the great talent of its author.
Rating: Summary: very entertaining, lively characters. Review: another page-turner from James Patterson
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I found the build up of the book (i.e. the first 250 pages) to be good. The last 100 pages, however, were horribly disappointing. Most notably, there is NO description of how the plan that is the climax of the book is developed or pulled off. It sounds so routine, it's hard to believe that nobody else ever did it. For a character that was supposed to be hard for law enforcement to track down, he proved a remarkably easy target
Rating: Summary: Shallow, weak, and unbelievable Review: I enjoyed several of Patterson's books, so I thought this would be just as good. However, I was HIGHLY disappointed. The characters were contrived and underdeveloped, and the plot contained a lot of scenes that were not credible. I guess I should have looked at the copyright date to see that this was one of his early works. The publisher is just trying to cash in on his name. I detest this tactic, and will not buy another title by this author, on principle.
