Rating: Summary: If you like suspense, buy this book Review: I needed a good mystery for an 11-hour plane ride and this book did the trick. It was excellent and kept my interest piqued. I read through the night on a red-eye from HA to GA until I finished it. Then, I read about the authors -- mother and daughter team and their first novel. My daughter and I would never have been able to agree on how to develop all the interesting characters. Great job. Thanks for an truly enjoyable mystery.
Rating: Summary: First rate first effort! Review: This book is an excellent debut by a gifted writing team, though at times it becomes somewhat predictable. It is not the typical edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller, but it held my interest. I would recommed this book & will definitely read P.J. Tracy again.
Rating: Summary: Stayed Up Late - Got Up Early to Finish! Review: I've read all the big mysteries this summer - plodded through The Davinci Code, was let down by the new Lee Child and Harlan Coben books, liked Shutter Island - and I found this book to be the most compelling, exciting book I've read this year. Reminds me of the best Coben, Lehane and Child books. Well plotted, great characters, exciting story, nail-biting ending. Truly worth reading. Don't miss the one book this summer that deserves to be a best-seller!
Rating: Summary: Instant Fan.... Review: I am normally leary of reading authors debut novels because most of the time they are rough, especially co-authored books. I am glad I made the exception. The book's plot is based on an intriguing modern day premise of computer video games. This novel keeped twisting and turning. The characters were fascinating and engaging. There was action, romance, and humor. This is definitely one of the best debut books I have ever read - it was a solid performance through and through. I found this book funny, engaging, and it has made me an instant fan! I can't wait until their next novel.
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!! Review: I have read a lot of mystery/ murder books, and this by far is the best one. I got so into it, i felt like i was one of the characters... I could not put it down. It was AWESOME!! This book is defintly a must read! I cant wait for more by PJ Tracy.
Rating: Summary: A Thriller typical for TV, a mainstream book for the summer Review: It is a good summer read. It is above average and it is time good spent. But I can't follow the 5 star reviews of other readers. The story is forseeable many times. Even the solution is not that surprising. And the reason why the killer killed was so disappointing and reasoning so short, that it was sad that the book got to a close so quickly. Though the storry is smart and has many good twists, it is quiet mainstream. A quick read. I had some problem to really connect with the characters. The story has too many characters to follow and they are as shallow as in those TV thrillers. It is not much more than you would actually see on the sreen. But I will try the next book, if P.C. Tracy keeps up writing.
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal! Review: I can't add much more than others have said already. This is a phenomenal debut book. It kept me in suspense right until the last pages. It's one of those books you want to sit up all night and read!!
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: If you read only one mystery/thriller by a new author this year, make "Monkeewrench" your choice. The plot and characters sizzle and the authors (mother-daughter team of PJ and Tracy Lambrecht) have set the thriller in Minneapolis/St.Paul-Wisconsin, one of my favorite areas, and the stomping grounds of Lucas Davenport of the "Prey" series. For new authors, the team is excellent at weaving multiple plotlines together, and the team of 5 software developers that is at risk, and who have created risk for others, is an intriguing and slightly comic group (that apparently will be back for at least 2 sequels). Monkeewrench has gotten a lot of critical praise, some of it over-the-top, when comparing its comic touch to that of Evanovich. Make no mistake, this is a dead serious thriller, whose writers have a light and humorous way with words and descriptions. They don't populate the book with cartoon characters (no offense to Evanovich, I love her work). Here's a sample of the kind of descriptive turn that grabs your senses while you work through the plot: "...the room was an olfactory museum of hundreds of meetings just like this one. Fast food, sweat, and the now-forbidden cigarette smoke -- all these smells and more seeped from the plaster walls and rose from the uneven waves of the warped wooden floor. " You'll enjoy cops Magozzi, a Mpls. detective and his soft-hearted partner, Gino Rolseth, as well as Wisconsin sheriff Mike Halloran. Mostly though, you'll be annoyed at the sleep you miss, since Monkeewrench is one of those books you can't put down once you start. Plot twists and turns are exciting, and while the eventual discovery of the killer's identity is a little surreal, it makes for a great whodunit. Looking forward to more from this writing team; their debut was spectacular!!!
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Book Review: This was an amazing book. It was written very well so the reader can easily follow along. Although I got the names mixed up a lot in this book (I didn't even know there were two seperate police forces involved)it was still a great book. I loved the use of humor in this book and the characters were great. Everyone should read this book because of the first and middle, but I think the end is kinda disapointing. They aren't even talked about a lot in this book so it's a surprise but you don't even know anything about them. The buildup to find out who the killer was the part I liked best. It was what kept it the most interesting. The emotion of feeling sorry for the cops when they couldn't find the killer even though they had over 5 murder scenes to investigate right in front of them and they still failed was compelling. These cops watched Mall of America for days and they still did not catch the killer. All of what the killer suceeds with makes the reader think he is brillant but then you learn of the killer's past and what he went through. I don't know of anyone that has ever had such an interesting *person* as the killer in a novel. They didn't even know if it was a John or Jane Doe. This is the 2003 murder mystery that everyone should read up on.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Thriller Review: this book was wonderful! I could barely put it down. This was the first time I got so involved with a book that I started to feel the same emotions as the characters. Wonderful humerous story with a great believable plot and vivid imagery.
