Summary: What a bizarre storyline...
Review: I wanted to read this book because I had read Roses are Red and this was the continuation. I wanted to "be there" when Detective Alex Cross discovered who The Mastermind was. I went along for the ride and what a weird ride that was. Not only is Cross trying to figure out who The Mastermind is but now he after vampires. Yup, you heard me right, he is chasing vampires. For anyone who is into goth, alternative lifestyle, cult and vampires, you will find this book to your liking. Unfortunately for me, it was more information than I wanted to know and was very gory at points. Still I kept reading because I was intent on being there when the Mastermind was finally caught. I was there and it felt good to have this psycho gone because frankly I was sick and tired of all the horrible things he was doing just to have a show down with Detective Alex Cross. Guess who won?

I gave this book a 4 because I personally did not enjoy the vampire bit but overall the book was still fast-paced and thrilling, just what I expect from a James Patterson book. Can't wait to read Four Blind Mice.

Summary: Just OK
Review: I was looking for a book to really scare me. This one didn't. This is only the 2nd James Petterson book I have read and I can say both were kind of a dissapointment. I mean it was okay but it was not great. I am glad I just checked it out and did not buy it.

Summary: Predictable
Review: Because I don't have the time to read, I pickup a audio CD from the library. Although I did listen to the entire thing, I can;t say that I enjoyed it. The storyline was so predictible. Hopefully his next one will be better.

Summary: Vampires......OOOOHHH
Review: If you like the gory James Patterson books then this is for you. I really liked this book, partly because I love the Alex Cross series. This book is all about humans that think they're vamps and are terrorizing the city. It was a great read. If you like the Alex Cross series then come and get it.

Summary: My first and last James Patterson book.
Review: It's hard to believe that James Patterson is a best-selling author. This plot is ridiculous! I like vampire stories as much as the next reader, but as I was reading I couldn't stop thinking this one was a farce. Furthermore, this writing is second-rate. Maybe I was expecting too much from this mystery novel- things like being able to participate in the story, suspense, character development, a little bit of actual unease (as opposed to laughing at the thought of circus performers acting as vampires under the cover of night).
On the other hand, as a writer, maybe I'm jealous that Mr. Patterson can successfully get away with such mediocrity.

Summary: A quick read...
Review: ...Too quick, actually. I like a mystery where I can actually participate, as a reader, in crime-solving. I enjoy the challenge of attempting to figure out "who done it" before the protagonist does, but with this Alex Cross mystery, like its predecessor, Roses Are Red, Patterson drops a bomb on his readers at the novel's end, and once the dust has settled, leaves oner with little more than a shred of interest in the outcome.

Summary: Not worth the paper it's printed on...
Review: I enjoyed some of Patterson's early Alex Cross novels. He was never up there with Sandford or Connelly but they were fun and quick reads. At some point I lost interest. I saw this one at a library sale for 25 cents and thought, "How could I go wrong for 25 cents?" Turns out I got ripped off. This book is ludicrous. It seems thrown together and coming off reading one of Connelly's best, it seems like a high school fiction project. Vampires?! Oh my God!!!

Summary: James Pattersons' best? Not by a long shot
Review: I'm a huge James Patterson fan and there are only a few books of his that I have not read. After the incredible book "Roses Are Red" with its incredible twist ending, I could not WAIT for this book to come out and see how everything panned out. Naturally, I had this book within the first few days of its release.

It didn't take me long to read it. The vampire plot was somewhat interesting, but in general, not my realm of interest, so, for the most part, I shouldn't comment on that. I'd be too biased towards it, however, it wasn't bad. It was well written.

I personally was more interested in the Mastermind storyline continuing from "Roses Are Red." Obviously, the Mastermind continues to stalk Alex Cross and Alex continues to chase him until the final showdown.

As all fans of James Patterson's have, I have come to expect the unexpected in his novels. Complex and incredible plot twists.

This book however that every author, no matter how good, has a bad writing day some days. I mean, honestly, Alex Cross figured out who the bad guy was out of nowhere in this novel. He's sitting in his car, and out of nowhere, with no rhyme or reason, says to himeself, "Oh, it's this guy. He's the Mastermind."

Where did it come from? Nowhere.

And, I admit, at first I though it was great. But, the more I thought about it, it really disappointed me because that's not what I expect from an author of james Patterson's cailiber. He's so much better and could have given it a much better twist as to Alex's way of figuring it out.

My advice, take this one out of the library and save your money for a first edition copy of "Roses Are Red." It's so much more worth it.
