Summary: This book is fair. He has written many good books
Review: The book starts out running, then jogs, then walks, then crawls ad infinitum. Then starts running again, slows down and just loses it. Grisham seems to write his books in great detail and then he seems to tire and decides to just end them quickly. I like his books but his endings don't justify all the details.

Summary: Pointless and boring
Review: This is the first Grisham book I've ever been unhappy with. The story just didn't seem to matter. It didn't have that fast-paced life or death sense of urgency that I've grown to love about Grisham's other books. There was no character that I could feel for. That's one of the things that is so great about his other books; you care about the characters. Unfortunately, this just falls short.

Summary: Could have been written in 100 pages or less.
Review: interesting opening plot line but quickly fades. No zing; Characters predictable. Written for a two hour television show.

Summary: One of his greatest books ever.
Review: I can't say enough about John Grisham. I started reading a book before "The Testament" and got so bored, then I started reading this book and just wanted to keep reading. Some authors start getting away from the idea of the book but he doesn't. How could a person not like his books. He is an author that you just want to keep reading and not do a thing, because you never get bored with his writing.

Summary: TESTAMENT is no testament to Grisham talent
Review: At the beginning of TESTAMENT we become enthralled with Troy Phelam, his billions and his death. Unfortunately, his heirs are not that exciting and their lawyers even more dullwitted. Enter Josh Stafford and Nate O'Reilly, the decease's high paid attorneys. Josh plays a small part. He is in charge. He is friend and protector of Nate. Nate, newly released from rehab is sent to Brazil to locate the missing heiress. In his quest he fights his own demons and realizes true enlightenment through sickness. His Brazilian adventure is the best the book offers.

Unfortunately, Nate arrives back in the States with personal worries and no heiress. This situation boils down to a slow, uninteresting account of the greedy siblings legal actions to contest the will.

I found the balance of the story to be dull and uninteresting. It's a shame Mr. Grisham couldn't find a way to continue the heiress and really add some zip and excitement into the lives of the other characters. As a true fan of Grisham, I read the entire book in hope that he'd surprise me. I'm sorry to say--he did not.

Summary: An excellent book
Review: I am a big fan of John Grisham. I have read all of his books. I will agree that some are better than others. I think that this one is one of his best. I think too many people are comparing it to The Firm, though. It is a different kind of story, and until you accept that you probably won't like it. It has its slow moments, but it's all worth it in the end.

Summary: Grisham is writing for his fans, not for movie adaptations
Review: Grisham has returned to entertainig his fans when he writes and not for the movie revenue. I discovered several messages in this novel. The first message centered around the Troy Phelan family; one of the richest families in America, yet probably the most dysfunctional. Another message centered around Rachel (Troy's daughter). She had nothing tangible, yet she was the happiest, sincerest, honest, and most loving individual in the novel. The message: Be kind to your family, with hard work,we can all become the person we were meant to be if we have enough faith in God and in ourselves. The character Nate proved this point by going from drug addiction to becoming complete in himself

I'm anxiously awaiting his next novel. Now that Grisham enjoys writing for his fans rather than for the movie adaptation, I'm sure that it will be an immediate best seller.

Summary: Redemption, refreshing and uplifting.
Review: I've read all of Grisham's books and I find great delight in reading one about an imperfect man who has failed over and again. That he experiences an epiphany, against all odds is much more true to life than those who seem to think this is impossible. For those who find this unrealistic; I would suggest you spend some time checking out the real world. It happens! I find it a welcome change and nearly as good as my favorite Grisham, "A Time To Kill." We have enough books about slick, perfect people. This one introduces us to the selfish and selfless.

Summary: My advice--wait for the movie!
Review: This one started out with a bang! I loved the idea of an eccentric billionaire and a fight over his will. What I really didn't enjoy was 200 pages of traipsing through the jungle of Brazil. I found myself skimming whole chapters trying to find the story instead of endless details regarding swamps and boats and so on...enough already. It picked up toward the end, and was still a page-turner, but could have been better....I keep wishing he'd do another book with the depth of A Time To Kill....no doubt this will be a great little action movie....Kevin Costner perhaps? or Mel Gibson? for die hard Grisham fans only....

Summary: Grisham's Latest Blockbuster
Review: John Grisham has once again amazed us. This provocative novel follows the death of a billionaire and distribution of his estate. There are twists and turns at every corner with side plots and abundant, colorful characters. Rather than focusing on a sole character as Grisham has been known to do in the past, in The Testament, he spreads his genius for creating vivid, realistic and believable characters through the whole cast. Grisham's description of setting in this novel is unique; you'll need to read the book to understand. If you read one book this year, pick up John Grisham's The Testament.
