Rating: Summary: It was one of my favorite Grisham books. Review: I enjoyed The Testament because it had you hooked immediately. Troy was a crafty character. He was in control of his fate even after his death. A lot of Grisham's books are too wordy and could tell a good story with less description. His wordiness in this book was appreciated because it took me somewhere unfamiliar. Reading the jacket cover you learn that he has visited the places in the book and is trying to make it real to the reader. I was not disappointed to find towards the end his typical negative attitude about lawyers. It seems his style to make some lawyer the bad guy. My favorite to date has been A Time to Kill. The Testament is running a close second. I wanted a sequel. I wasn't ready to say goodbye to the characters. I read the book slowly which is unusual for me and a good book. Good going Nate in your transformation.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: For a law-thriller the book has no action, no legal questions. no real characters.Grisham is not delivering the goods.
Rating: Summary: Disliked immensely Review: I bought this book the first day it hit the stands. I love John Grisham. This book is far from up to his usual standard. The plot was not exciting and not a page turner. The long trip in Brazil was boring. I almost put the book down before I finished it. I wish I could get my money back.
Rating: Summary: Grisham takes us on an adventure out of the courts... Review: For anyone interested in the regular Grisham stuff like gullible juries, sleazy lawsuits, fisty lawyers, frustated judges, huge law firms billing 500 bucks an hour, this book will sure come as a dissapointment. Basically that is what one reads Grisham's books for, but we're in for a disappointment. He's tried to take the readers on a trip to Brazil, a rather interesting one, but i would say he should stick to the court rooms. Maybe he's trying to increase the number of readers but mind you, if he continues descibing adventures to some new found land he's going to lose all he already has. The book all in all is interesting and as usual it's got grisham's shocking ending. I would say it's a different " Grisham " book, but in other sense it's a nice book, one must for every exploring and adventurous reader.
Rating: Summary: One of his best books! Review: I just finished reading this book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is one of his best books yet. I have enjoyed all of his other books, but this is one of the best by far. When I read the last page, I didn't want the story to end. Very encouraging and uplifting
Rating: Summary: A Fantastic Adventure Review: If you really like Grisham for his Legal action, his courtroom battles and his happy ever afters then you won't like this.....however if you like reading books, any books as long as they are good then i'm sure you'll love this. I've always been a fan of Grisham however this book was like nothing he has ever dome before, this was an adventure, it was exciting, moving, the characters were so real. Once i had gotten started i just couldn't stop and i found myself actually missing the characters when i had finished the book. Like i said if you like a good adventure read, with a little bit of courtroom banter thrown in then you won't find better than this.
Rating: Summary: When's the Next Book? Review: A classic Grisham opening, and an enjoyable read throughout. Perhaps we dwelled in the Pantanal a bit long, but who's complaining. I can't say that this is the best Grisham book, but middle of the road from him is quite alright with me.
Rating: Summary: A terrific new breed of novel by John Grisham Review: Wether John Grisham has found religion or not, I don't know. All I do know is that this is an excellent book. Although for some it may be too "preachy" I found it enlightening and uplifting as one charachter searched the forests of Brazil looking for something to put his faith in. This novel touched me in a way that few others by him have.
Rating: Summary: This is my favorite of Grisham's work. I've read them all. Review: This book on tape was so interesting I could'nt stop listening. To be honest, the ending was a great surprise to me, but I loved it.
Rating: Summary: The first Grisham book I've read Review: I was given this book as a gift, and although I enjoyed the plot, I found I had a hard time wanting to read on and on about the trip through the Pantanal. It took entirely too long! I also disliked the sibling characters and their lawyers so much that I dreaded those segments as well. But, having said that, I loved the idea of someone having the fortitude to reject instant fortune on principle and faith, and found I wanted to see more about what happened to Nate's life after meeting Rachel. I was so sad at the end when he went back to see her and wonder what would have happened had he had more time to spend with her.
